I'm all for punishing the criminals, but it would put a huge burden on us to go after the immigrants, when there are 10 more for every one we hunt down.

The REAL problem, and the REAL criminals are those who illegally employ them. If those employers were thrown in jail and heavily fined, there would be no illegal jobs, and they wouldn't be coming over in droves. THAT would solve the problem in a heartbeat, and it would be a much more efficient way to do it.

It's convenient to blame the person who is so desperate they risk life and limb to take what would be, to must of us, a sub-poverty job. Why aren't the "law and order" types eager to punish those who break the law by illegally offering jobs?

Perhaps this whole "wink and a nod" deal has a reason behind it:

1) These employers can make much bigger profits.

2) Other employers benefit because it drives wages of legitimate workers down.

3) The politicians get a convenient boogey-man to scapegoat and to inflame the emotions of those who feel better when righteously outraged.

4) Illegals help to prop up our budget by paying into the Social Security system (via fake SS#s), with no chance of ever getting that back.

5) The average person who complains about them doesn't eschew cheap produce, cheap yardwork, cheap cleaning services, so how much are they willing to give up to solve this problem?

There's a lot of noise and bluster about how the "illegals" are hurting us, but those who profit from them, and those who gain politically by having their "evils" to point at, have no interest in any real change.

because big companies profit from low wages and no benefits for those workers.
That is why as soon as they get here they have a job.

I agree, they are ILLIEGAL. And it isn't fair for those who have to pay hundreds and wait years to become legal.

I am however sympathetic for them. They most likely are coming from a country whose economy is beat to sh*t. And they are seeking economic opportunities to support their families. However, in the end, they are illiegal. And I dont have the money to pay to keep them in jail, and pay for their children to attend public school, and etc.

It is not a question of being OK or not OK, it simply is. There is a vast labor pool south of the border that is in demand on this side of the border. It's like trying to keep Romeo from Juliet. Economic laws are going to have more say than immigration laws.
There are speeding laws, too, that I usually break on a daily basis. So I commit a crime just like a lot of people.

I agree they are illegal and those who are not citizens also do not pay taxes and thats just unfair to the rest of us.

Every company & every individual who employs or houses illegals should be subject to huge fines & yes, prison time.
Starting with the largest companies in the US, I would start legal actions to imprison the CEO's & CFO's who purposefully hire illegal aliens & eventually work my way down to individual citizens who knowingly hire illegal aliens.

Agreed. Just because a citizen breaks the law doesn't mean that since they actually contribute they don't get punished, so why should someone who doesn't contribute and breaks the law not have to deal with the consequences. And not only not have to deal with the consequences, but get housing, medical, food stamps, etc etc etc.

Being an illegal immigrant is the dream of many. They want to be part of this country because we rock! Yes, it is against the law to be an illegal immigrant, but in regards to Mexico, they were here first folks! Besides, just because something is illegal doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong. Think about it. They aren't being rewarded very well for the work they do here, and they are not protected by our labor laws at all. They will come here regardless of what we do to curb it or stop it. It's no use to even try. I think it should be easier for them to come here, and should take one or two years at the most to become a citizen. It's inevitable so we might as well go with the flow. Yes, it is illegal to be an illegal immigrant, but it also illegal to speed in your car, but everyone does it. It's all about who actually gets away with it.

The real problem for the US is the burden illegal immigrants are placing on our already taxed system, and it is unbelieveable and staggering to look at the numbers. I do have a problem with the fact that the way the laws are written, illegal immigrants can't pay taxes like everyone else does, we won't let them. I'm sure they would if they could in exchange to be a citizen. I think a flat tax on wages should apply to every paycheck issued in this country regardless if you have a social security number or not.

If illegal immigrants really want to live here in the US, they should get as far away from the Mexican border as possible. In California, they come and go easily especially if they work here. I don't know what the answer is, but I know building a wall is the stupidest idea I have ever heard of. We need to use our intelligence to solve this problem, not physical barriers.

We can't just open up our borders to everyone because everyone would come here and we could not handle the sheer influx. But 20 million illegal immigrants can't be wrong, this must be a great country Something makes the USA the best place in the whole world to live. So all you flag burning anti-american americans, make sure you wrap yourself up tightly in old glory the next time you torch her :)
I personally have no problem with the Mexican people, they always treated me with kindness. I grew up in Watts during the sixties, and I remember who helped me when tensions were racially fired up, and it wasn't the african americans, it was the mexicans. We were the only white family in our neighborhood, and my mexican neighbors saved my life many times.

I don't think there is anything wrong with someone who is willing to die for their freedom and a better life here, especially when you compare it to the lazy welfare collecting fully able to work adults that aren't willing to do ANYTHING to better themselves, and you all know who you are.

people bich about illegals not paying taxes yet they do jobs that americans wont do. americans are to lazy to go bend there lazy butts over to pick a grape. also if the illegals filed for citizenship it could take months. its a huge mess. if mexico had more job opportunities it wouldnt be our problem.
