There are two perspectives which tend to lead to opposite conclusions:
1. This country belongs to its citizens. Although they are not citizens, they should respect our laws. This perspective is held in great majority by those on our side of the fence, serving to protect the status quo.
2. There is a vast inequality of wealth over the border. Wealth attracts people. A peasant farmer who can't feed his children in the Mexican altiplanos is less concerned with immigration law than he is with the future of his family. This perspective is held in great majority by those on the opposite side of the fence.
We know, as careful observers of history, that globalization will carry the day--eventually the border fence will come down and the wealth of the world will redistribute. In the present, however, the imbalance is strongly in our favor. A desire to "keep what is rightfully ours" motivates all regulation of immigration. Too bad we didn't let the American Indian do the same, right? |

its an invasion from the south. the us is too damn foolish and scared of offending people to do one thing about it. the police cant even ask if they are illegal?????? what the f is that about? soon they wont be able to ask someone they see speeding if they were speeding, or someone that looks like oj with a knife in his hand if he just stabbed someone. america does not have the guts it takes to be a superpower anymore, and it is only a matter of time before someone puts them in their place. by the way, i am an american, and ****** pissed off at the people running this place we used to be proud to call home. to the people that say get the hell out, yeah, i am with you, i am leaving as fast as i can! |

I think that the reason that some people want the laws to be rewritten is a financial one. The underbelly of the work force (i.e. labor, food service, janitorial etc.) is predominantly comprised of immigrants, a large percentage of whom are illegal. The majority of companies that employ these peole do so at the lowest possible wages. This ensures that these companies turn a large profit. When faced with a choice between losing the majority of their work force or hiring spoiled Americans (White American, Mexican American, African American, Asian American etc.) at a much higher rate who will probably not work as hard as an imigrant worker, the choice is clear: Give money to the lobbyists and lawmakers to get the laws re-written. I totally disagree with re-writing laws that would allow illegal immigrants the right to stay in my country. The fact is, Big Business is trying to find a way to do this.
I am hispanic and get lots of crap from my own people because of my views on this subject. But I am first and foremost an AMERICAN. Born and bred in the United States. Not Spanish-American, not Mexican-American. AMERICAN. I don't recall Spain or Mexico ever doing anything for me. That being said, I abide by American law. Wanting to re-write it for profit is a bunch of crap. |

They shouldnt be allowed to violate ANY codes. The fence at the border should run the whole length of the border and it should be an electric fence. I cant believe there isnt a mass round up of illegals that is always in progress,its only done when someone in govt gets off there butt and gives in to public pressure. American politicians dont do anything unless you kick them in the rear or call them on something they"ve done wrong,there useless as far as the immigration situation goes. I think that if you want to be a U.S citizen you damn well better do it legally and be able to speak the english language or go back where ever the hell it is you came from !!! |

Because we haven't been enforcing our Immigration Codes, and now there's almost too much "catch up" work for us to do. Perhaps we should've watched the border instead of watching out for little old ladies in airports. |

Our government is refusing to do anything about these ILLEGAL INVADERS. It is ultimately going to rest in the hands of the AMERICAN CITIZENS to enforce this issue.
Our constitution requires us to defend our country against all INVADERS, both foreign and domestic. It also gives us not only the right but the responsibility do form an organized militia and the right to bear arms.
So, according to THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION every AMERICAN citizen should have the right to enforce that stop ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS from being in this country!
And that is what it is going to take. Our government is not going to do it, WE ARE! |

We shouldnt. Do Mexicans trying to enter our country by breaking the law come before our own taxpaying citezens? I would mind less if they earned citezenships and entered legally. They are a desperate and tumorous people-desperate to break free of their own polluted, broken country to make new, illegal lives in our country, evading taxes and our laws. No, we should not rewrite our laws. This is a very ludicrous question, for true Americans would say no to such propositions.

It's our government...I'm sure everyone has wanted to know the answer to THIS one!! And?? Why do WE have to learn spanish?? That's just WRONG...BUT...one answer seems to stem from the fact that most Americans refuse to do some of the jobs that they WILL...like working on a tobacco farm...I grew up on a tobacco farm and it's VERY hard and dirty work...when I was in school, I made money by working in tobacco..made GOOD money..kids now?? They just WILL NOT do it...there are LOTS of jobs here that most Americans just will NOT do...so?? They hire the Mexicans to do them...like farming...picking fruits, working the fields,...Me?? If I need a job?? I'll do what ever I have to...I've had some crappy jobs...but money is money...if ya need it?? WORK for it... |
