I think it has always been a country of BOTH immigrants and racists.
We pretty much committed genocide against American Indians and used African and African Americans as slaves and did not to even begin to treat either of these groups fairly until the last few decades.
Northern Europeans have always been largely welcomed but other groups have not been welcomed as warmly. |

Because some immigrants don't know what it is to BE an American. The immigrants who came here through Ellis Island A) did so legally, and B) WANTED to BE AMERICANS. They did not want to be 'Mexican Americans' or 'Chinese Americans' etc... They wanted to become part of the fabric of this country. The illegal immigrants here now, want to work and send money to their families back in their home countries, NEVER WANT to become citizens...but think they can demand the same rights as American citizens. Sorry, but it shouldn't work that way. It certainly wouldn't work that way I MY American butt were in Mexico or Nigeria! |

I don't think most Americans have anything against people who come into this country legally and obey the rules and go through the proper process to gain their citizenship. It's the people who sneak into this country illegally that most people have a problem with. |

This is a country of immigrants. But it is also a country of equality. Illegal immigrants are breaking the law. Legal immigrants are following the law. It's been spelled out for ya. That good enough? There are laws to protect everyone. Illegal immigrants are breaking the law by being illegal, regarless of their reasons. Anyone breaking a law is essentially attacking everyone. Americans are not against immigration. This is a country founded by immigrants. Most people are just sick and tired of criminals being given special treatment regardless of their reasons for committing the crime(s) they have committed. Also, this is an ENGLISH speaking country, not spanish-russian-chinese-or any other language. BUT AN ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY!!!!!!!! If we place the spanish language, along with the english language, on every package, then we should also place every other language on EVERY package.

Thjats not the issue. The USA is a country of Immigrants. Immigrants who came to the country legally and became US citizens.
Now a days Immigrants feel they can take a pill and earn instant citizenship no hassels no fuss.... Well thats not the case... There have always been a process to become and american, folk just want to bypass the system.

I'm sure there are quite a few people of all races and nationalities who are waiting patiently in the legal immigration line who don't appreciate that others are cutting and breaking the law too.
We have a system of accepting immigrants and it should be respected. There are many many people who come here for the same reasons that others sneak across the border have- but illegal is illegal.
It's a matter of respect, decency, and fairness, not racism. |

currently we are being over run by people whom have no intention of becomeing Americans only intend to stay long enough to fill their pockets and go home.
Lets not forget all those fine people in our south west that want to re-conquesta a large part of this country back to old Mexico.

why do american citizens forget where they came from??? there are euro americans, afro americans, asian americans, austro americans i guess, many other kinds of americans, especially latino americans now.
EVERYONE IS AN IMMIGRANT. not many were legal, so if the country was tolerant to you, why wont you be tolerant to immigrants who just show how rich this country is? |

Many Americans are oblivious to what illegal immigrants face once they are here. They argue that it is against the law to come here illegally, and it is, but they don't look at other positive aspects of immigration.
Who is willing to work in Central California during the summer picking grapes??
This is why food is so cheap. illegal immigrants provide the cheap labor needed to keep the prices of food and other things down.

Illegal immigrants come here for a reason if you had no money, no job, no home, and you had an opportunity to come to a better place wouldn't you??
The immigration process takes months; years!! what if you did not have years??
And there are a lot of racist people out there, And no it is not just white people, There are people that are racist against white people also. And black people, And Arab, And Mexican and any other culture there are racists. |

First off you other people are answering a different question, ILLEGAL is not in the question, and yes some Americans are against immigration and the only ones who have a right are the native Americans because it was there land to start with and besides them we are all technically ILLEGAL immigrants we stole this country so no one should be mad at immigration ILLEGAL or otherwise |
