They increase the pay, and i'm almost 18 and still have never had a job because I can't ever find one! I would take any job I can get my hands on at this point.
Also, my brother who has a felony can't get jobs(it's a rare thing). And everyone roots for illegals when you don't know if in there homeland they had any felony's, they were rapists, pedophile's, murderer's, etc. But just keep supporting them. >.< |

It's not just Dem's. What have any of them done about it? Nothing. When they busted that Swift plant a short time ago, it took out a lot of there workers. The next day, American citizens where lined up trying to get those jobs. The jobs that Americans won't do. Right? |

To tell you the truth from experience, they do jobs Americans don't want. I work in the carpentry industry , and I have seen that more illegals apply for these jobs then Americans do. And yes sometimes it is cause they are cheaper, but it is the contractors fault. fellow Americans also taking advantage to get richer. so if these poor white people are being driven out then you know who to blame. |

i say, if you want to raise the minimum wage from 5.15 to 7.25, thats a 2.10 increase. they should raise all wages 2.10 as well. i certainly could use an extra 2.10 an hour... |

Let's suppose for a moment that you did get rid of all the illegals and replaced them with minimum wage workers. Great, all those people are employed and making money, so they'll have a better standard of living, right? Wrong.
With the increase in wages that employers will have to pay to these new workers, will come higher prices on the products that they bring to the market. This, in turn, affects everyone, but will mostly affect those with lower incomes, which in turn will lower their standard of living.
This is the sort of paradox that makes helping the poor difficult. Economically speaking, there will always be a poor class in a capitalist economy. When you help the poor raise to a higher station, what you actually do is bring others down to their level. Theoretically, if you rose the minimum wage to $10 or higher, you would effectively separate the nation into two classes, lower and upper. Middle class would almost be completely subsumed into the lower class. Do you want to help people, or just make more people suffer so they have good company? |

the truth is that a sinsle house hold cannot live on minimum wage(expecally with a single parent) it has been proven. Plus it is also true that illegals are cheaper workers thus decrasing the cost of things, exp MD hamburgers |

If there are enough people to fill these 12 million jobs you speak of, where is their massive democratic voice in this reasoning behind the call for a "fix of injustice" of which you speak? I am very certain a lobbyist would love that much attention. Also, if there were enough people to fill these jobs, how do you figure the minimum-wage would be effected at all? |

Because getting illegals out requires a huge amount of federal money, and pisses off people who feel close to illegals (mexicans, chinese, etc)
while raising the minimum wage impacts businesses, costs the federal government less, raises more tax income, ultimately lowers the defecit (in real value, since raising minimum wage devalues the dollar)
It also reduces poverty of the poor, reduces the wealth of the super-rich, and makes the economy thrive, as poor people become able to spend money....money that goes into businesses in the form of profits. |

Bush and his buddies want to open the boarders to more workers from latin America so do not blame the dems. Bush was in office for 6 years and the republicans controlled the house the senate and the courts but they did not try to stop the flow of illegals. How can you blame the dems for this? |

The unions, by and large, support the minimum wage and increasing it, and they are also very sympathetic to illegal aliens. And the unions lean heavily to the left and mostly support Democrats.
Given these factors, the Democratic Party would be absolutely stupid to abandon calls to increase the minimum wage and to call for harsh treatment of illegals. They would alienate many of their biggest contributors and much of their power base.
Unfortunately the Republican Party hasn't done all that much better. Personally--if it were up to me--I would eliminate the minimum wage altogether. I would encourage employers to pay a fair wage and I would try to get the illegals out one way or another--preferably by helping their countries of origin provide an environment for them to live better. Sadly, that is much more easily said than done.
The problem is far more complex than you have stated, and it will be much harder to resolve. |

and do not think that all illegals are in one area of the country, because they are NOT...they are in three major areas ..but they are in ALL states in this country....
and by raising the minimum wage when this country is not that stable could lose more small business and more lose of job OVER SEAS..just what we need, more people out of work

You do realize that, if 12 million illegals were deported and legal American folk took over their jobs, that the employers would be required by law to pay those american workers minimum wage, right? These poor white people you're talking about...would they do hard labor for $3/hour in the scorching heat? Maybe in the beginning they would, but after a few months they would start demanding fair pay & benefits. They would demand to be treated like the American citizens they are. Even without the minimum wage increase, that extra cost to the agricultural industry would lead to substantially increased costs on the store shelves. And without the minimum wage increase, there would be a greater need to increase welfare funding. Where is all the money going to come from to deport 12 million aliens, pay more out in welfare benefits, increase the minimum wage AND keep our country safe?? To answer your question, the Democrats are simply putting their priorities in order. They can't do everything overnight. Just like it took the Republicans only 7 years to destroy this country's economic stability. That didn't happen overnight either. |

Most folks struggling to feed their families have trouble seeing the "big picture". Desperation tends to make you shortsighted... I wonder why?
****Addition*** Most folks answering, and I don't disagree - are pushing their own opinion on the "illegals" issue. The question was..."Why are the DEMS" doing this?". And the simple answer is: More Votes. That's all she wrote. No matter which political party adopts the platform, It sadly has nothing to do with a moral decision for the betterment of the entire populace. It's about getting elected and the sorry fact is.. the prospect of instant gratification will always get more support than a long term (and maybe more logical & sensible) solution.

I agree with you. Additionally, I think that raising the minimum wage is only going to encourage more hiring of illegals and cause more legal citizens to lose their jobs to illegals. Raising the minimum wage while doing nothing to stop employers from hiring illegals is only going to compound the problem. While I sympathize with people who have to work for minimum wage and who would be happy to get the raise, I am sorry because they are cutting off their noses because more of them are going to lose their jobs when employers who do not want to pay the new minimum wage will hire more illegals. |
