Globalization should INCREASE your salaries.
The reason your salaries went down has nothing to do with the USA. That is your country's propaganda. The US manufacturing sector was severely hit by globalization.
Essentially Asia undercut every other market as far as labor costs are concerned. One example is the wood trade.
In Brazil the wood mills have big modern machines, capable of stripping trees of bark and preparing them for saw mills or paper mills. These huge machines are modern marvels.
In China or India the trees are prepared by having people standing on the tree barefoot with long handles scrapers to strip the tree of bark. The job is slower and more labor intensive, but the cost of 20 Chinese people working 10 hour days with machetes is cheaper than the investment in more modern machines and the engineers to keep them running.
Globalization of markets should increase salaries by making Brazilian products available elsewhere. But in the current market, unless you are willing to compete price wise with China or India, they will underbid everyone. Your country is making the USA a scapegoat for Brazilian big business to make profits by cutting salaries. |

The US economy is awful right now and the Globalization is due to the fat pockets for Corporate fools who like to downsize and send jobs overseas to save money for themselves. It leaves no work here either. Sorry man! |

Hello friend... most of us are not against immigration, we are for controlled immigration. If we open the door to unlimited immigration we will not have the housing, jobs or infrastructure to support everyone.
You may find it interesting to know that globalization has harmed a lot of american workers too. Before globalization our middle class (about 80% of the people in this country) had more job and they paid better than they do now.
You are 100% correct, big american and Euro countries really do gain mass fortunes off of the blood and sweat of the poor. This does not have so much to do with immigration as it does with Bush's economic policies. There has been a massive transfer of wealth going on these last few years, where about 1-5% of the americans are making massive fortunes and everyone else is either running in place or losing ground.
The good news is that after 8 years of George Bush in office, there isn't the slightest chance another republican will get elected. Our elections for senators and governors is coming up on Nov 7th and most people are expecting a shift from republican control to democratic... The presidential election is in 2008 and we will probably have a democratic president.
I think that better days for working folks are right around the corner. |

Sorry, we were sold the same bill of goods, we are expected to get paid less and less because the Chinese get paid less than we do. Eventually I suppose there will be no desperate country on earth who is willing to sell its people to produce goods at a lower wage than anyone else. Its almost as if the huge corporations have their own country... a sort of 'UnitedWorld Of Business' with the rest of the world working for them. They do seem to be a law unto themselves and the rest of the world does not see the profits of their own labor. That includes the US and European peoples. |

The real problem in Brazil is your social security system and giving people lifetime pensions for almost no work. Maybe if the government there didn't try to give 3 or 4 pensions to everyone they would have more money. |

Americans are not against immigration. We are against ILLEGAL immigration. ILLEGALS are a security risk, and if too many immigrants come in at once, and choose to live only within their own communities, we lose the principle of assimilation which has worked so well to build us as a prosperous nation for almost 250 years. And we do not "slave" the rest of the world. All the pot-bellied dictators and socialist elitist idiots like chavez and castro do a great job of that just by calling us names.
If you want to come live in America, do it legally, and you will find out just how great this country is.

4x4 and a few others are right it is not the majority you should have problems with it is the minority that are taking jobs from us and giving them to your people at a reduced wage in order to save themselves money.The problem is that once one corporation has done this the others must fallow in order to stay competitive it is a snow ball effect and it hurts both sides. |

look to your own government...globalization was not forced on you ...most third world countries beg for trade treaties...yes often to line the pockets of the rich in Brazil....but then they blame disparity on foreign companies so the government/powers that wanted it in the first place don't have to take the blame for the poor....look inside to fix your problem ..not blaming it on others..

Because of fear other groups will take over, it's already taking place, the Hispanics and Asians will be the majority soon, that's the biggest fear, but all this has happened because of cheap labor, jobs oversees, companies outsourcing in India and China, Central America and Mexico. You are correct, they complain because they feel uneasy about people from other Countries taking over. |

I didn't know the United States had a military force in Brazil along with a surrogate government. If all you say is accurate, why did the Brazilian government, your government, agreed to the trade treaties? What imperialism? Isn't Brazil a democracy?
So, are you complaining about Brazil's economic situation or the US immigration policies? Most American fully accept legal immigration - those people that following the rules and arrive in this country legally, whether they are from Brazil or somewhere else. Thousands legally immigrate each year. The difficultiy arises with the people that refuse to accept the lawful procedure and feel they are entitled to be above the law imposed on others. |
