I don't even know. I think immigration of any kind is part of life here on earth. If people a long time did it, why, for people who do it now, is it considered really bad?
I think people should not be call illegal for being in different parts of this earth. |

The majority of people appose illegal immigration not the legal kind. I'm one of those people. |

yes and look what australia and american immigrants did to the native peoples of those countries, didn't do much for their future did it? Their culture collapsed. |

I think most are against Illegal immigration, not immigration. The whole American was built by immigrants argument is getting old too. This is 2007, problems today are much different than they were back then.
Legal immigrants get background checked and all the papers to work in the US. You don't see the difference between an illegal immigrant and a Legal one???Wow. |

Who, besides you, says Americans are against all immigration. The vast majority of Americans are against illegal, repeat illegal, immigration. That is as it should be. |

To lump illegal immigration together with legal is disingenuous. Most approve of legal immigration, and oppose illegal immigration.
We have rules about fairly admitting immigrants from a variety of nations. The USA has been overwhelmed by immigrants from our south and this adversely affects our immigration from the rest of the world.
*** clearly you don't see a difference...but don't impose that nearsightedness on the rest of us. |

MOst people don't have a problem with immigration LEGAL immigration. Most people do have problems with people coming here when they can't even respect our soverignty. A nation with wide open borders for any and everyone to cross isn't really an independent state. No nation in the world does that. Not even Mexico. Did you realize that the border between Mexico and Guatemala is locked up tight. It seems Mexico doesn't want a lot of illegal aliens in their country either. I feel that we should seal the border with a wall and constant military/Border service patrol. Once that is accomplished we can then see about revising the work permit laws and allow more people to work and live in the US. Especially since large sectors of the economy depend on immigrant labor. If we don't seal the border first everything else is just a farce. But most people aren't against immigraton, just illegal immigration. |

"I dont see any difference between illegal and legal immigrants"
Well hopefully, the legal immigrants will have been vetted to some degree about their background and their intentions and their criminal record.
Sadly the illegal ones could be mad bad rapists or suicide bombers or scroungers or whatever.
Now do you see the difference between legal and illegal? |

In the past, we needed immigrants to populate and contribute to our country in a major way..
Today we are overpopulated and while I am not against immigrants coming here legally, I am against illegal aliens which is a different matter altogether.
Like any other country, a quota system as to how many people can come each year needs to be enforced. |

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, we have a problem with illegal immigration |

Im not against immingration of any kind, im against the kind that dont pay their own way when they go to a country. Why should these people get housing and benefits through tax money they havent earned when it could go to better things like wages for the hardworking nurses for example. Yes these other countries were built by immigrants and then they made it their own, whats wrong with people wanting to protect what they have and not see it ripped apart by those that just want to come over and take advantage of the benefits system? If they come over and have a job and can already support their families then by all means please be part of OUR society. |

They are. The problem is that many immigrants are coming here ILLEGALLY. What is wrong with coming here legally?
Perhaps if the government in Mexico City actually cared about its citizens and their well-being then so many people wouldn't be running away.
How great a country can Mexico be if so many people want to get away so badly? They could have a *great* country with some infrasturcture improvement and investment in the northern regions, as well as cracking down on corruption and criminal organizations. |

I've never heard of anyone any immigration of any kind. There are many people who are against illegal immigration, though. |

do you know any illegal immigrants?
THe immigrants to America and Australia BUILT those countries. Illegals to not contribute, they only take away.
When you get a job, pay taxes, buy a house and need to send your kids to public school, you won't be so quick to give everything away. |

The Media is responsible for this as well as ignorance on part of some people. It is considered by some that Immigrants & asylum seekers are 'robbing'/impacting upon the 'natural' citizens of their rights/privledges. However, as you stated- immigrants have contributed to the economy and state but unfortunately, not everyone recognises this. |

"I dont see any difference between an immigrant or an illegal immigrant."
So, violating the law doesn't bother you apparently. Using that logic, is murder okay if you can self-justify it? |

The UK is over crowded and there are employment problems, particularly for the low skilled ie the poorest. More low skilled immigration = increased competition for the few jobs there are which = unemployment, poverty, housing problems. |

Immigrants will be the future of the UK and its your future they will have stolen. It is totally incomprehensible how anyone can think this is OK. They have their OWN countries why don't they stay in them and fight the cause to improve their lives AT HOME!
The uk is an easy touch for them otherwise they wouldnt fight to get here but would stay in the first "safe" country they came to
To say Australia and America were built on immigration is true but do you realise how far time has moved on with population growth and development etc. Our ancestors didnt build this country for immigrants to take it from us. They worked and died so that we could have a decent future here |

Well until you do see the difference ( and there is one ) I guess you wont understand the problem. |

a man in my home town is living in a tent with his 2 daughters as his marriage and business (he has always been until recently a tax payer) broke down and he is now homeless. his case has been highlighted and he is stuck. 20,000 houses are being built in the north UK for immigrant workers.
do you see my point.
EDIT, why do the do-gooders always thumb down. look up the facts. then come back with an argument that proves my facts wrong. god its so annoying. charity begins at home. |

Yes, they will be this country's future. But in the meantime, do you want to be swamped by foreigners here only for the benefits they can claim, the money they can take out of our economy to send back to their families in foreign countries, the jobs they can deprive us of because of their low wage requirements and the easy crimes they can commit because of our poor policing?
America and Australia were virtually unpopulated when unrestricted immigration was allowed. Try getting in now. It will not be easy. But in the UK, it is a piece of cake.
We must be mad. |

Obviously, you didn't think this one through.
This site is concerned with ILLEGAL immigration.
A LEGAL immigrant has been screened for disease, education, skills, relationships, criminal background etc. etc. to ensure that he/she will not be a burden to society. The overwhelming majority of us have no problem with LEGAL immigrants. We welcome them.
I personally don't know of anyone that is against ALL immigration. (I think I''ll ask that question) |

Most people are not against immigration its the illegal immigrants the way they are treated in doncaster they are took by the hand top of the range clothes cars mobile phones top of the list for a house and when they get it it's furnished for them ordinary guy in the street can not get a dentist but they can translators when they go to the dentist or doctors so tell me if they were not took by the hand and had to live like our British homeless how many would be here not many i bet we need properly managed immigration but we do not need illegal immigrants |

I'm not against immigration as long as legal. Come to a country improperly is a criminal act. It's not right giving reward to people that commit any crime. |

America is such a strong country because of immigrants.
I agree with you. I question myself sometimes about this issue. I don't understand people who are against immigrants, and there are a lot of opinions out there about it, some seem fair and others unfair. I think everyone should have a chance for a better life, because that is why people migrate, it's the need to survive. And if hard work is what it takes, the economy grows, and economy means future.
And to be honest, some people pretend to be blind when they say that this country doesn't need any more immigrants, when in reality, a lot of hired immigrants are been payed minimum wage while the companies grow unjustly rich. And that means future to them. An unfair one. |

Actually, today's immigrant is the present of nations like America that have low fertility and aging populations. Immigration is definitely desireable for such states. Legal Immigration.
The objection most often and loudly voiced is to Illegal Immigration, which is not desireable for any nation. |
