Why do you think it is cruel that we do not want people here ILLEGALLY. Our border towns and cities are being taken over. Our government needs to step up and enforce the laws. Frankly, are YOU that ignorant? Illegals are a slap in the face not only to natural citizens but also to the LEGAL immigrants that got here the hard way. Don't get me started on "They have assimilated into this culture, learned the language, and they cant just go back to their country because many may not even know how to speak the language fluently." How many, MANY, ILLEGALS come here and can not put together a sentence in English. So you can not use that for an EXCUSE to stay here.

They have not assimilated. At my college the Mexicans are always talking Spanish and NOT English. Except in the classroom. They do not want to be Americans. Even the ones who were born here, consider Mexico their home.

even if your in this country illegally, you can still file for citizenship and become legal, the inital fee is like 200 bucks.. anyone can afford that unless you are not working.

Sending them home is not cruel. Lots of immigrants return home anyway. What's cruel is the illegals leaving their wife's and kids in their native country with the promise they will return and send money, then never return and never send money.

Along Mexico's southern border, Guatemala, there are numerous Mexican patrols working 24/7. The Mexicans and the government do not want illegals entering through their southern border. Why? They are taking jobs from the local farmers and they rob and steal and " drain the economy". Sound familiar?

We let in more than a million people legally every year. That is more than any other country. We do not 'make it hard' but because we subsidize services for our poor, more want to come than we are willing to take. Their better life is at our expense, and by overcrowding our schools and closing our hospitals for our poor, illegals are ruining life here for our own people. We have very good reasons for our limits on immigration.

Their children are not more important than our own, and these are our children's schools. They do not belong to those whose parents came illegally so we would pay for thier children.

It is called respecting the laws of the land. You are saying that people who break the law should be let to go about continuing to break the law. There has been ZERO assimilation into this culture in the USA. I have known MANY illegal aliens to have kids who continue to ONLY speak Spanish and refuse to learn the language or customs!

We could let in every Mexican that wants to come here and then we'd have to increase our taxes about 1000% to pay for their schooling, medical care and welfare.

You maybe confuse "cruel," with "realistic." Illegal immigrants are driving up taxes because the average American gets stuck footing the bill for them. They rarely have insurance, so we get to pay for their emergency room visits when they have a cold, a major injury, or a baby. Recently, in the tiny town I live in, an illegal, in the matter of less than 20 minutes, racked up a bill for the local populus totalling almost half a million dollars. He broke into a business, drove a brand-new $60,000 truck out of the side of the building, rolled the pickup about a mile out of town, and had to be life-flighted to a trauma center. Because of his illegal status, the business owner's insurance and the business owner (due to his deductible) will foot the bill to replace the truck and repair the building. Because of the illegal status, us local working folk get to foot the bill for the law enforcement, emergency personel, the flight to the trauma room, and his hospital bill.
He will, of course, be deported when he's well enough, but there's nothing to keep him from coming back and doing it all again.

And what about the kids? Because illegal adults also smuggle in illegal kids, or have kids here and don't teach them English, the local schools have to divert money into special classes for non-English speaking students. How is that fair to my kids? Why should our public schools have to cut basic education to the "average American kid" because of the illegal actions of someone else?

If they want to be here, get in line and come legally. If you've got a good enough reason to come here, we'll let you in. Then, when you get here legally, LEARN ENGLISH and don't create another burden on taxpayers. Get a job and pay for your own insurance, housing, and food.... just like I have to bust my butt and do.

My family immigrated too. They KNEW IT WAS A PRIVELEDGE and treated it as such. The native language was NEVER spoken outside of home and the only flag ever flown was the AMERICAN flag.

Yes, lets quadruple our taxes to cover the costs, open the borders, and turn the whole USA into one big refugee camp. Yes, lets demand that myself and all of my fellow taxpayers foot the bill, so that no one has to do anything to help themselves. Those of us who have worked hard for the things we have should be forced to give it all away, so that no one can accuse us of having a better life. We can even add and amendment to the Constitution, and we'll call it the "optional clause". It will give everyone the option of picking which laws they will or won't obey. Will that work for you?

And its not almost impossible to immigrate here. Sure, it takes some time and money, but it is worth it. There are lots of legal immigrants here from third world countries, and that don't come from wealthy families. I am related to some of them.

I totally hear you. People don't realize that they are coming illegally because the process is too expensive and very time consuming to come here the right way. Most people who come here undocumented, are in dire straits to do so. The application process alone can take up to 2 years, and thats just applying. Just to turn in the application to become a documented worker is $200. Just to APPLY for residency (not even citizenship) is almost $500. And again the process is a long one and there is no guarantee. My bfs mother spent over $10,000 to become a citizen, not to mention the tests they have to take that most Americans couldn't pass. Also over 90% of the immigration process is paper work. Its very confusing for someone who doesn't know the system well. Thats why immigration law is big business. The process needs to be changed to allow them to come here the right way and pay taxes and we can keep track of them. This would cut down on disease and criminal activity. The ones who come here to work want to come here the right way. They don't like getting paid slave wages and being crime victims because they can't go to the police. If they make the process go smoother for hard working families, they can weed out the criminals and gang members.

Yes, sadly, some people who post here are that cruel. They have no compassion. But it's more than that- they're ignorant. You've been through the process, you know what the US immigration policy is and how impossible it is to come here legally for most people. They don't bother to learn anything about immigration policy and law, and they act like illegal immigrants had some sort of option to come here and work legally. Ignorance breeds contempt.
