That would be the ignorant and the uneduacated among us talking. I greatly apologize for the people here not showing you the amount of respect that your deserve as a person and a race. I don't judge by race, but rather by the person. If I were to judge by race, religion, gender or creed, I would indeed have missed out on some very good friends. But I just wanted to assure you that there are some of us here who are not predjudice andd do look forward to your insight.

im not saying this to offend you but people assume all mexicans are illegal because they are the ones that usually cause the most trouble... and because the media makes it so they sound really bad... i have nothing aginst mexicans. they are just trying to make a living. i just think that if ANYBODY who lives here should live here legally. and those who think they should be here illegally and dont need to take a test or get a green card or whatever should leave... in some countrys if u live there illegally and get caught u can get a worse punishment then here..

I suppose its racist to want someone to come here legally and pay taxes and contribute like we do. Its nice that you are legal and no one is against the ones who come here legally and pull their weight. So if it makes me a racist then so be it. I want them to be legal. If there not legal then they need to go home.

I'm against illegal immigration and am totally fine with you. Most here will tell you they are too. Some who are the most radical are 'fake accounts' to make that side look bad. There are fakes on both sides. Sometimes you can tell by the avatar name.

You did it the right way. That is all that is being asked of those that did not. The illegals need to go back to their country and come in legally. A no brainer. There is no need for the name calling but, you have a lot of people on here that just like to stir the pot a bit and that is the only way they know how. But, you seem to be just as guilty don't you? Racism is Ignorance and Fear. I am half Swedish half American and althought I have lived most of my life in Sweden, I spent some summers in USA and met lots of peple from Mexico and Latin America. I just have to say, I had never met such wonderful people! My suggestion is for Americans to really get informed about these wondeful cultures! TheyÂ´d be surprised!

It's plain and simple, Ignorance. Just the other day I was walking into a gas station and some men were hanging out by the door. As I walked by the one guys said outloud "watch this that white lady is gonna clutch her purse as she walks by". I went into the store, not once did I clutch my purse. When I walked out one of the guys opened the door for me. "Don't hold the door for that white girl she is scared of you. She's gonna clutch her purse, watch, she thinks you're gonna rob her" I hear the same guy from before say. I looked right at him and I clutched my purse and held it close to my chest and I replied "This would be me clutching my purse" and I dropped it back down to my side and walked to my car. His friends all started laughing at him. I just so happened to have a Bob Marly cd on in my car, and as I drove away I heard one of his friends say "Yeah, she's real racist listening to Bob Marly". I did not let it get to me, instead I walked away with better feeling about myself. People are going to try to bring you down in life, don't let them. We are all equal, we are all the same human race. Don't give in to the ignorance, keep doing what your doing, their own ignorance will be their own downfall.

Don't let it bother you too much. This place does not represent the majority. Some people use it as some kind of forum asking one sided questions (some use alternate accounts) just to they can express their opinions and hatred.

I think they are doing it especially more now, since they did discover quite a few illegal immigrants living and working in the United States, for 6 years even. So they deported them, I think they were Portuguese. Spanish people have been going over the border between Mexico and Texas, and other US states near the Mexican border. So it is these people that are the illegal aliens. But the general population doesn't know the difference who is legal and who isn't legal. So just don't pay any attention to it, especially if it doesn't concern you, why get upset? Some hispanics are also smuggled into the United States by huge trucks, this costs them losts of money, and a lot of them die from the trip, as there is no food, water toilet etc. or if they run out of air in the closed truck, they will die. Usually the "illegal aliens" do not live off government money, because they don't have a green card which you need to work and they don't have any US citizenship, so if they went to the government, I think they would be deported for being in the United States illegally. You see this crossing over of hispanics over the US border has been happening for decades, maybe that is why people are upset. I live in Canada, so I don't know everything about this situation. But that Portuguese family that was recently deported I think in September 2006, they were working for a living all of them, and there was a rally to stop their deportation, but they were deported anyways, they were in New York State. mermaid199

I agree. I know my uncle was a legal immigrant and he was a hard worker. But I do know a few illegal immigrants that set the bad sterotype. One hit my car and ran because he had no insurance. We had one parent at our school take his kid to the doctor and gave false information so the kid had a cast on but couldn't get a doctor note about gym class--the doctor was upset about the false information. Why they didn't go to a free clinic, I don't know.

try going to europe (france) and see what people think of you. if they find out you are an american, you're toast. people will always be afraid or predudiced against people of other races, nationalities, etc.

To me the anti-illegal immigration crowd simply wants laws enforced. It is the pro-criminal crown that bring Mexicans and race into the debate and it is them that call Americans too fat and lazy to do real work. Perhaps you should go back and re-read some of the stuff again and determine who the real racists are.

People have the capability of being racist just as much as people have the capability of being thieves, liars, drunkards, or murderers -- ALL people are inheritantly flawed creatures, capable of some of the most foul and the most base of thoughts and deeds, not just limited to racist ones.

From the body of your question, it sounds to me that you have much to be proud of. You seem to have grown up in a good, supportive family, one that taught you the value of a good work ethic, for you took a bold move and did the right things to reap the benefits of doing what you were taught.

Unfortunately, everyone will encounter others that will not only just hold different viewpoints, but will exhibit some of those more base characteristics that I mentioned before. For example, I encountered a co-worker that had a bad attitude towards the police, saying that they were no better than he was, that all they did was to harrass him and others. He tried to get me to agree with him and his general blanket statement, but all I would do was to say that it was my experience that if one kept their nose straight, the police would not bother them.

I found out 3 weeks later that he had been arrested and was awaiting the grand jury on drug manufacture charges.

The point is, I have found out in my life that the best thing one can do is to acknowledge that such people exist, then take those good lessons and moral values that you have learned from your family and from life and stand up and hold them up high so that others can see them and possibly adopt them.

Life, after all, is a perpetual learning experience, and who hasn't remembered some of the best values being done by another's example?

Quite frankly, I don't think people in America are "racist" to any great degree. In some other countries, however, racial enmity is embedded in their culture. The current problem with illegal aliens entering from Mexico has heated up the debate no doubt, and you may be currently feeling some of it. I am an "oldish" male of English descent, and I would like to go on record as apologizing for any slurs directed at you by the ignorant and insensitive of my clan. Not everyone says that. Just the crackpot repubs, but since they're high anyway, don't pay them much heed. I fully support immigration, and undocumented immigrants don't bother me at all. This nation is founded upon immigrants, so it's stupid to think that just because this person didn't want to WASTE several years of their life waiting for the "okay" to come work here from the government that they're somehow evil.

I think you are seeing the wrong kind of racism. You think people assume all "hispanics" are illegals. Instead, they are really referring to the opposite. People are assuming that all illegal immigrants are "hispanics".

This is not correct, either, but I think the percentage of illegals who are "hispanic" is much higher than the percentage of "hispanics" who are illegal. However, all illegal immigration should be stopped, no matter which country it originates from. Also, America should embrace the Spanish heritage and language, but it should not be an "official" language of America.

I think all Americans should learn English to be citizens.

Also, i say "hispanics" in quotes because many "hispanics" get upset when we call them that. We do not have another way to categorize all "hispanics", so people just call them Mexicans.
