Why are people who hate immigrants usually the most stupid people who contribute least towards society?

Unfortunately, the history of this country is such that in times of economic depression and population changes, particular segments of the population become targets for the disappointed.

While I am all for immigration reform that makes sense, I am NOT for using immigration law as a tool for ethnic cleansing which is where this current agenda is heading. It is a shame that in discussing an issue that is very important, we have targeted Mexican people. Not all Mexicans are in the country without authorization, yet this is a fact that seems to escape many people. In recent weeks, the use of the word "illegal" has become synonymus with Mexican.

I am also unconvinced by the statistics mentioned to suppourt the current reform proposal. Data can be interpreted in any manner to suppourt its researchers claims. We are talking about a group that constitues about 5% of the overall population. Sheer reason tells you that such a small segment cannot have the rampant and overwhelming effect cited. Yet again, this is something that seems to escape many. I wish we could think back to the spirit of the constitution and the intentions of the Founders.

Immigrants do nothing but work 24/7 when they come here. If anything, they have my sympathy. And you're right, people just can't EVER mind their own business. That's why there's so much racism, homophobia and just flat out hatred.

this statement know matter how much i agree with you is a pretty stupid statement in itself. Their are stupid people on BOTH side of the issues here. Majority of the people from both sides don't even know the what the whole bill is. There are things that are on both sides of the issues that we need and are right. they just need to revise the bill and change some things, that's all. Something does need to be done with the border

You actually answered your own question: because they hate immigrants (even though this country is made up of almost entirely immigrants - everybody except the true Native Americans came here from somewhere else, right?)and they contribute the least towards a positive society because they are shallow minded, self-centered, racist, negetive, and just plain hateful! Personally I think it's wonderful to live in a country that so many different nationalities of people call home-that is exactly what makes this country great!

Those people that hate immigrants are most likely the ones that have not experienced what it feels like to be an immigrant. They are the ones who do not travel out of their country to feel the hospitality and warmth of people living in other countries. They think that where they are is better than other places, but please tell them to wake up and smell the coffee!!!!

No one is denying the fact immigrants need to come here legally but some of the stuff I am reading across the board is frightening.
I wonder if these same people bash Afro-Americans, Asians, Native Americans etc.

It's always easier to blame someone weaker then you (in this case only in the sense that one has citizenship and an immigrant does not) for things you are too afraid, ashamed, ignorant to see in yourself.

The guy above me is so quick to talk about what immigrants are doing is "illegal". According to who?! Our president? The man who, at press conferences, comes out stuttering like an idiot? The people who don't complain when they pay cheaper prices because an immigrant, working for pennies, is doing the work?

Why is it that the people most in support of ILLEGAL immigration fail to make the distinction between ILLEGAL immigrants and LEGAL immigrants? I personally have nothing whatsoever against LEGAL immigrants. In fact I'm glad they are here as they are helping to make our country better. I do however have a problem with ILLEGAL immigrants who are coming here getting free health care and wellfare for kids they have which they aren't helping to pay for as they DON'T pay the taxes that help to pay for these things. It seems to me that they are hurting our country more than they are helping it to become better between the hospitals being out millions of dollars each year to wellfare going to pay for kids that shouldn't have been born here in the first place instead of to the families who are LEGAL citizens here. You really should make some distinction as to wether the immigrants you are speaking about are of the LEGAL or ILLEGAL variety when asking such a stupid question. And as for contributing to society, I pay taxes and don't live off of the government.

Nobody I know hates immigrants. What we are against is ILLEGAL immigrants, who are cheating the system and are a real burden to society, even with whatever benefits they provide. Educate yourself about the issue sweetheart before you start ranting with touchy feely idiocy

I don't think people are against immigration ... it's illegal immigration that people are tired of. People who come to this country w/out a job who then get on DES cuz they have a baby here, people who stand on job corners waiting for a day job because they can't get other work because they're illegal, because people are illegal they get paid less because who are they going to complain to? Everyone in America (except the Native Americans) came from an immigrant ... again it's not immigration we're against we just want people to do it the RIGHT WAY and go through the paperwork, have proof of an income, take the citizenship test, and learn to speak American english.

People commonly have the need to feel better than others. They want to be able to create a separation between themselves (the "haves") and the "have nots", because it somehow strengthens their own self-esteem. And, self-esteem is one of the basic human needs.

Ironically, it is the people who have the lowest self-esteem and are typically at the bottom of the social ladder who most fall prey to this. They look at themselves in society and privately feel that they may not have the education, skill-sets, etc. to climb the ladder. But no one wants to admit to themselves that they have low self-worth. Thus, they find another group of people that they can feel better than. This has happened time and time again throughout human history. If you look at many of the racist/hate groups, many can be explained this way. Just look at the KKK. Most were poor white rednecks, etc. with little more than a high school education.

People who are more educated and self-aware often don't fall prey to this same human weakness. Greater education and self-awareness also teaches us to have more empathy and compassion for others who are less fortunate. We've been taught how to put ourselves in their shoes and see things from their perspective.

My oh my! Aren't you just full of yourself. As Forest Gump says, "Stupid is as Stupid does". Just like your question. It's not immigrants that are hated it's illegal immigrants. Since you seem to be authority on this subject, explain to me why immigrants come here illegally. Would you say they are to stupid to go through the proper channels? Or would you say that they are to lazy? I would be interested to know. Also why is that very few speak English? I have no problem with immigrants,I have a problem with ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS and people like yourself that make these generalizations on such subjects. Why is it that you say that the people who hate immigrants are stupid and contribute the least to society? Where did you get this information? I personally am sick to death of this whole issue. There should be no debate. It's crystal clear. If you are in this country illegally then your a** needs to go back where you came from. Actually, I think the people who started the blogs on both sides of this issue equally come off as 'most stupid people'. I just defended a kind of amnesty on another chain and don't intend to repeat it. The start of that chain speculated about attacking Mexico City. (Right.)

I am against illegal immigration and am just fine with legal immigration. I think whatever plan we come up with, we need stronger borders and more cooperation with Mexico over the idea that we have a right to control immigration as does every other country in the world. However, I think we have to find a way to deal with the human reality currently within our borders. It should be a way we won't be ashamed of later, too. I saw something on a different board proposing some kind of concentration camps for illegal immigrants, which made me sick.

I consider myself conservative, and my family has been here since this was a Colony rather than a country (at least from Europe's standpoint). I am proud of being American and share what some consider to be an arrogance in thinking we really do try to do the right thing as a country, even if some of our people are as bad as any anywhere.

Let's consider the people involved and the complexity of the issue and try to do the right thing this time.
