Why can't Americans adapt by learning to speak Spanish it is a beautiful language it is their future ?

It's not that we don't want to, ok maybe some of us don't. It's the fact that the main language here is english and we shouldn't have to change to accomidate(sp) people who only come here to work then leave, or come here illeagly.

We speak English here,it is what this country was founded on. I don't agree that spanish is a beautiful language and I refuse to adapt to a foreign culture. It is not my future nor the future of this country,there will be war before the people allow that.

English is the primary langauge spoken in AMerica by Americans ; immigrants who choose to enter legally and assimilate want to learn ENglish.

Why should Americans learn to speak a language which is not native to their own?

It should be the other way around!

But FWISW, I speak fluent Spanish, German and I have some understanding of French - I am also a Brit who lives in the States.

So when someone tells me why don't I speak I certain language or take the time to learn - I simply reply with, why don't you take the time to learn mine, after all you are in *my* country - or the country where I live.

English is the official language, and we already compensate more than enough to accommodate Mexicans too damn lazy to learn English. No other group - Asians, Germans, Polish, etc - have ever failed to learn English when migrating to the US. Learn English or GO HOME!

Why should I change for a bunch of illegal immigrants who don't have jobs or pay taxes? This is the United States of America not Mexico. Learn to speak English or go back to Mexico and stay there.

Why is it when people move to the United States they expect us to learn their language? However if I was to go to Mexico, China or any other country I would be expected to speak that language. I can assure any hispanic immigrant legal or illegal the United States is the only country that will make an attempt to cater to your needs. Anywhere else you would be expected to learn the local language. So my question to you is "Why can't you put forth the effort to learn English?" btw I do speak some Spanish, German and Italian. I will be more than happy to use any of those languages when I travel abroad to a country where that is the official language.

Shure!!!!!!!, it's one of the "Romance " languages and as soon as I sneak across the Southern Border, I'll start learning Spanish. OOPS, the Mexicans don't want any illegals entering their country, they just want them leaving so i guess I'll just stay in the good Old USA and press 1 for English.

It may be a beautiful language, but there are so many other languages that are, too. Each country has it's own universal language, why can't we?

This is America where the language of English is spoken. We shouldn't have to accommodate someone that doesn't want or can speak the English language. Spanish is not the language of the future, America has far more people from different countries that don't speak English now,that certainly won't learn Spanish. You start thinking that, you're going to start finding alot of Spanish people in cemeteries.or sent back from where they came from.

Most Americans don't learn Spanish because they don't have to. However, most college students are opting for Spanish, as are high school kids because it is definitely the second most useful language in the USA. It is an intelligent thing to do if you are in school to minor in Spanish. It will be used more than any other 2nd language.

Because no one adapted to the language of my ancestors, and bothered to learn Swedish or German or French. Just because the immigrants today usually speak Spanish, that doesn't mean that everyone else must conform to their language. I'm all for more of us learning foreign languages, but the lanuguage spoken in the US is primarily English. We do future generations no service by pretending that they don't have to learn it, since it's PC to show respect for other cultures by insisting that everyone else "convert" to the minority culture.

Mexico, Central America, South America (except Brazil, most speak Portuguese) and Spain! It is a beautiful and romantic language! If you know Spanish you can easily learn Italian and Portuguese too! The funny thing is that when I go to the taco shop I see the place full of white people eating tacos and burritos! and saying "oh I love Mexican food". I'm Mexican of Spaniard descent, people think I'm white and when I hear white people talking BS about Mexicans to me I just tell them two or three things that just live them with their mouth shut. Why you people are so hypocrite? stop eating tacos and burritos! stop visiting Mexico and saying "I love Mexico" you hypocrite people.
My favorite language is spanish, because is more romantic, vast and beautiful.
