You have a 4.0 GPA and you don't know the definition of "illegal?" It's not our fault your parents brought you here either....so what do you propose, other than the ridiculous notion of amnesty, to rectify the lawlessness of your parents?

EDIT: I think you misunderstand something here...an American citizen with a GPA of 2 deserves more than any illegal with any GPA what-so-ever in the U.S. Why? Because it is their country...pretty basic, huh? Who are you to judge, in your clearly biased opinion, how hard Americans "try?" Not only is that not your business but it certainly shouldn't be your concern in light of the fact that you have much bigger problems on your plate to deal with...like either legalizing yourself or leaving this country. This is our country and educational system and no illegal is entitled to anything within that system. Period. If we're so "crazy" then cite the U.S. law that says you were entitled to that education and this debate will be over....but you can't, it doesn't exist.

I've got great news for this person. All the time she spends here illegally before her 18th birthday will not be held against her. It's only time spent in the United States illegally AFTER her 18th birthday that will count against her.

If she goes home after graduating high school (before the age of 18 and 1/2) she'll be 100% eligible to return legally, with no ban, assuming she can qualify for a visa.

Its not anti-immigration its anti-ILLEGAL. As she turns 18 she needs to make the effort to become legal on her own. If they choose to continue to live here illegally then it is her choice and she has to live with the consequences.

The question she should be asking is: "Mom, Dad? Why did you bring me to this country illegally? Why are you putting me through this hellish experience? Why couldn't you do what legal immigrants have worked long and hard for to get here instead of slapping them in the face by coming here illegally?"

I feel for her, I really do. It's a very complicated situation. But she should be angry at her parents for breaking the law, not at the government for (actually) enforcing them.

By the way, most of us aren't anti-immigrant. We're anti-illegal immigrant. But most people tend to leave that "pesky" illegal word out.

*The reason they don't have money is because their own government isn't doing anything for people in that situation. But that doesn't mean it isn't possible. Both my parents worked hard to get into this country legally.

First of all, you are absolutely right in that aspect. But the fact is that they are here illegally and it is our tax dollars, yours and mine, that are being spent on them. DARS is right. We are victims. But you're also right that it's not fair to the young woman you speak of. But it's her parents that put her in that position, not us.

So let's put your scenario in this prospective: Just because a poor family doesn't have the money to come here legally doesn't mean that they deserve a free ride while another poor family actually poured blood, sweat, and tears in order to earn their legal status in the U.S.

You say that we would do the same thing if we were in that position. But do you know that we're the most lenient country when it comes to illegal immigration? Do you know that Central Americans who try to cross Mexico's boarders are robbed, raped, and sometimes even killed before they are kicked out of there? (I am aware that not all illegal immigrants are from Mexico, but a majority of them are. So for the Mexicans to complain that we're not being fair to them is hypocritical).

I am anti illegal immigration. All I have to say is that the kid that wrote that should be furious at his parents for putting him in the situation he is in. Unfortunately when parents break the law, the children often suffer. When my parents emigrated here, they were legal. I don't know why all cannot do the same. You would think that by now, citizenship would have been taken care of.

We do see this, and frankly don't care. We are sick of being used and feed sob stories like the one you've presented here. If these children want to blame someone they can blame their parents. We have our own families to take care of, and their futures to plan for.

As for anyone in this kind of situation they can work hard and pay for a lawyer, even if they have to go back to whatever country they belong in first.

First this is not about immigrates, immigrate are more than welcome if they do it legally. For every case you cite about outstanding achieved we can cite one hundred about gangs and drugs. The problem with allowing the children of the illegals that were brought over illegally is it would set up a precedent, and more illegal would come with their children, and worse some would send their children by themselves with the hopes on having a amnesty for them also. Why not look to your country of birth to welcome you back and provide for you the way you want the American tax payers too.

Why did her parents put her in this situation? Why did they not come here legally? Why can you liberals not understand this: we are not against immigration, we are against ILLEGAL immigration. Why is it always the fault of the US when these people can't get the benefits of a citizen when it is the fault of her parents that put her in this situation. When she turns 18,she is free to apply for a Visa and make herself legit. It is not her fault that she was brought here by her illegal parents at a young age,but that does not give her the right to expect benefits that she is not entitled to.
And really,I'm tired of hearing how poor these people are and that they can't come here legally ,that is a load of BS. Many poor people have come to this country legally. Why haven't her parents made any attempt to make themselves legal while they have been here all these years?
We are running short on sympathy in this country towards people who break our laws and then think they deserve benefits meant for a citizen. She is not entitled to take up a space that should be used for an American citizen to go to college,no matter what her GPA is.

I am sorry you find yourself in this situation. But at the end of the day YOU are illegal, your parents knew and understood what coming to the States would mean as an illegal, and now their bad decision is affecting your life.

First off you donâ€™t know me, my family was poor, I worked a full time job and went to school at night, and sometimes I had to choose between eating, and bus fare. I know the meaning of hunger. More then most, but I never broke the law, I took jobs the most people wouldnâ€™t do. I collect cans off the street and turned them in for cash. I ate very cheap food, Iâ€™m sure some of my heath problems are from that time. I did what I had to do, but I NEVER broke the law. And yes it presented itself many time, just do this for a quick buck. My cousin did, heâ€™s a felon now. He keeps chasing that fast easy buck. While I work hard, can you guess who has save his money and owns his own home, has a savings account. Not him heâ€™s always broke and stealing money. So donâ€™t tell me that they HAD to break the law, they chose to break the law.

So we should send all illegal aliens back home, and if you want come back do it legally.

Yes the US citizen does deserve it more then an illegal alien, and I donâ€™t care if the US citizen or legal immigrant has a 1.0 GPA and the illegal has a 4.0 they would still deserve it more. We shouldnâ€™t reward felons.

It costs $10,000 per year per child to put that child through public school, and we subsidized that money taken from our own children's education. Why is it OUR children's fault? Their schools are failing and the incentive of 'better for the children' is a huge one in bringing illegal immigrants here to begin with. Also, those illegally here jump IN FRONT of our own children in priority to education funds and university entrance slots, because of the 'diversity preference', no child left behind act and their relative poverty. How can we take on more when our own don't have enough? Their children are NOT more important than our own.

Why should we continue to subsidize this, when WE have been the victims all along?

We can see it. It is heart wrenching. However, why can't you see that "we" will not be held accountable for the 'sins' of their parents? Their parents broke the law. Not the child. what is so hard about applying for citizenship. you've been here all these years so im sure you can afford to do it now. It's not your fault up until you become of legal age. This shows you about their family values and how much the illegals really care about their children. You just don't put your child in that situation. I would not move to a better country and drag my kids there so that they can be criminals like me. That is just stupid and the children of illegals should disown their parents. Also, their parents knew when they came here that they could be separated from their kids or any kids they have here would be taken from them if they were deported. Do you think they care?

It's not a real question. In order to go to school, you need a birth certificate stating that you were born in the U.S. This person obviously had the documentation to go to school, therefore he/she won't have any problem getting a U.S. passport or driver's license.

Furthermore, if the U.S. wanted the borders closed...they would be closed. It's ironic that we are pretending to crack down on terrorism, and yet anyone can walk into our country from Mexico. If our aim was 'Homeland Security', don't you think they would worry about illegal border crossing a little bit more?
