Why can't illegals learn English?

Honey, there are a million excuses but no reason! They choose to be hostile and violent, they want to exterminate the whites and the blacks, too! I'm sure you've seen the videos of our desert and just looking at that can tell you the caliber of people that are coming here! No respect for anything, anyone, or our laws. If they get killed because they don't know what stop means, oh well? We must get them out of our nation before their corruption rubs off onto our children! I want the USA to be the great place to live that it has always been. We still outnumber them by far, can we become deputized or sanctioned by ICE? Because apparently, we are going to have to do it. Our chicken sh*t president wants their oil as much as he wants control of the Middle East!!!!!!

Or how about the case in which an ILLEGAL immigrant (not Mexican, Middle Eastern I believe) raped a nine-year old girl and had his case finally thrown out by the judge because the court could not find a suitable interpreter on time.....ridiculous! Learn our language or get out!!!! I'm sure if *I* went to virtually any South American/Middle Eastern/Latin American country, they would (rightly) expect me to know how to speak their language. How much effort would they put towards find me an interpreter......???

How about the fact that we have to supply them with court interpreters whenever they break the law? Have you ever known how much a court interpreter makes? It's ridiculous and unheard of in any other country.

Two reasons: 1) Because they do not want to (they want us to accomodate them) and 2) Businesses cater to them (telephone prompts for Spanish, website links for Spanish, etc, etc.

As you have mentioned already, our govt is accommodating them so they don't need to. It's not just the illegals but it's mostly the Hispanics who are always demanding things to be in Spanish. My friend who is an elementary school teacher, had to learn Spanish to keep her job in Los Angeles.

What irks me more than anything is voter registration in NYC (probably in most of the states). The form and instructions are in Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, etc. I can't believe we are letting these people vote if they can't understand English! The whole voting process is very easy. Can you imagine where these non-English speakers are getting the information about the candidates and propositions? Probably in propaganda newspapers written by special interest groups who tell them how to vote.

who says they can't? I think they can but they just don't really care about learning English. They don't really need to with all the documents and signs in Spanish and "push 2 for Spanish"

That is a very good point. I think that if they come to our country, they need to learn OUR ways and OUR language because they are coming to OUR country. Plus, they are usually coming here to rip us off and take our money to their country and it is ******* up our economy! The sad thing is, the government could do something about it if they truly wanted to.

The immigrants from Europe in the early years of this country wanted to be US citizens bad enough they learned. Now our liberal policies say immigrants dont need to learn our language which is looney. If you are in the United States learn English that is what we speak

My son and I operate a renovation company in Dallas. I have hired several of them who are American born, and speak English. However, not a single one can read or write, or do even the most basic math. I have to figure their time for them, so that they can get paid.

My Great-Grandparents came over from Poland and spoke maybe three words of English. They learned English and only spoke their native tongue at home, church or on the block with neighbors.....
English must be made the Official Language of The US.

They don't HAVE to learn English, so they don't. There are becoming more and more of them and they speak their own language without a need to speak ours. Products are now written in different languages so they don't need to read the labels. Just laziness involved.

Perhaps they should be sent to the same religious schools my ancestors were forced to attend. Every time they spoke the language they were punished harshly. Corporal punishment is what they called it. It worked wonders for my people. Look how I turned out.

A lot of the time, older immigrants, not just illegal immigrants, have a harder time learning a new language, as is the case in any country and language. Even the older in age one gets, learning some subjects don't come instinctively, especially not something as intuitive as one's own native language. However, their children do become bilingual and are able to speak both languages. And learning more languages is good for all people. I learned more about English grammar while learning Spanish myself. Learning anything is great for enhancement of the brain and of the human being himself or herself.

Because they don't want to, in fact I heard a group of them say, no one is going to make them speak english. I think all of them absolutely have come to kill us all. I think we better kill them before they kill us.

Another underground group called las invasoros, said they were going invade the US and have 10 children each pair and not speak English, break all the laws possible.

It's positively scandalous how many people butcher the English language who were BORN here.

I'm not concerned in the LEAST about someone else's language skills when my very own countrymen and women are so SUB-standard in their English skills.

No one can deny that english is one of the most difficult languages to learn. The problem isn't that they can't learn english. Most people are totally unaware of any resources available to them. Many cities have programs at extremely low costs for basic english lessons. True enough in the past and now LEGAL immigrants have always made a point of making sure their children learn how to speak the language of the country their parents now live in and themselves assimilating into society. contrary to popular belief, in the past legal immigrants did not government services the way the do now. They felt it was a sign of failure to do so. Because today's illegal aliens are more willing to put up with unfair practices many therefore no longer feel obligated to learn the language. Plus more and more cities are being dual language now those who don't know spanish are now strangers in their city. By the way, 'alien' simply means unknown foreigner, and is an accurate term. If they want to be called immigrants do so LEGALLY.

Another reason is that English classes are either too full or you have to pay about $1,000 to get in a class. It depends where the person is. If they are in a rural area then there might not be as many services for ESL as there would be in a urban setting.

Also English classes are usually fill up quite quickly, not to metnion many places were English is taught the hours are well not flexibel. Most places are open during business hours or are in some remote location were people are not able to get them.

First of all most police, firemen, etc. take "command spanish". IT teaches them the words to order people around. LOL.

I think that most try to learn English (our even start programs have a 1+ year waiting list), and, i am constantly asked to help people learn basic terminology to survive here in the US.

Quite often, while they are working a full-time job, it is difficult for them to find time to take a class. Also, learning another language is not easy, and, English is so confusing..........

but for real both of my grandparents are legal and they don't know English. Why? because English is a really hard language to learn. It's constantly changing.
