Why can't people admit that the only reason to restrict immigration is xenophobia?

I see another side to that. Perhaps for an example People who really are into the environment on a whole wide world scale----and sees the damage of no Control and Order to things.

The economy cannot support it. that is not a guess, or an opinion that is a fact.

Its about the US economy, its about crime, its about alot of things.

But if it were to be as you want, or even to continue how it is.. the USA economy would collapse.

Restrict immigration to those that can provide a service we need, similar to that of Australia.

I don't confess to knowing the laws associated with immigration. But when someone can immigrate and immediately qualify and be placed on federal assistance (social security, medicare, etc...) without having contributed one penny, something is seriously wrong. If I want to donate money...fine, but the government should not be able to donate my taxes to pay for these individuals.

We have illegal immigration in the southern California area that has runined California. The taxpayers are over burdened by paying for these children going to school, free housing, free hospital care, free foodstamps. And I pay for it. I have paid taxes all my life and have never collected a nickle from the govt. but I am required to pay for the illegals who decide to get on the dole. I am assuming that you live in a northern state since you have no idea what you are talking about and are not affected.

People who benefit most from free trade and having American workers compete for wages with workers from third world countries send their children to private schools. Those of us who both pay for and USE services like public education and who actually feel health care costs feel very differently about open borders. We have to subsidize the poor who come illegally. Unlike the employers, we don't get the benefit of a lower wage illegals may accept, instead we get more people living below the poverty line who have to be subsidized from our children's education funds and from health care funds for our sick.

Free trade assumes no subsidized services, when it comes down to it. However, then the employers wouldn't be able to pay so little, because the only way their illegal employees making below poverty level wages make ends meet is to put such of their family as they can on whatever benefits are available.

Xenophobia has nothing to do with it. Our children's ruined schools has everything to do with it.

I also live in California and the public schools have been ruined by illegals. We are now paying for our kids to attend private school. Why the hell should I pay for their health care. Illegal aliens also get in-state tuition at colleges while a kid from AZ has to pay higher fees even though he is a legal citizen!

Other reasons to restrict immigration are to control who is in your country...not because of language or race but because of things like serious criminal records. Some of the things they check for in an immigration application are criminal records, serious health issues (HIV/AIDS or untreated STDs) and associations with groups that are a threat to our society. It is possible discovery of some of these could be cause for denial of an application. These are all legitimate reasons to reject someone and they have nothing to do with xenophobia. Some people are xenophobic, but not the vast majority. I have no problems with immigration as long as it is done responsibly and legally.

Okay, Captain Canada.

First, Iâ€™ve never complained about your questions (never seen one), and second, rather than feeling youâ€™ve insulted me, I think youâ€™ve insulted others (yourself, maybe?). Free trade? Whatâ€™s â€œfreeâ€ about permitting all money weâ€™ve spent in good faith for our own to be diverted to lawless invaders (would you sit silent if your police took your parents' money and gave it to the Irish Republican Army?)

So, on that note, Iâ€™ll keep this simple. Provided no child of an illegal is granted citizenship, no invader is permitted to steal the money my elderly parents paid for their own security, provided we can live with the certainty that all these â€œdecentâ€ invaders are accountable and will leave once theyâ€™ve lived out their value to themselves and usâ€¦once all that is done, then come back and ask this question again. Perhaps Iâ€™ll be moved with sufficient respect to answer with less bias.

I assume you are speaking about the U.S. since I read some of your other posts, though you don't mention it by name here.
Not all legal immigrants speak a language other than the common language here (English).
Not all illegal aliens speak a language other than the common language here (English).
You are merely wording it different to try to make it a racial issue. It has nothing to do with language or race.
Immigration #s are set with no regard to "language spoken by immigrants".
The U.S. accepts more legal immigrants into the U.S. than all other countries combined.
NO COUNTRY IN THE WORLD allows "free" immigration, nor should they.

It isn't the only reason, it isn't even an excuse most of the time. I'm happy to have legal immigrants come into this country, as are most citizens. Color doesn't matter to me at all. However, countries that insist on dumping their poorest people on us through the illegal invasion are dead wrong. It is their responsibility to take care of those people! All those countries are trying to do is to reduce their social liability.

The single best way to address the issue is to deport all illegal aliens and make our immigration policies identical to those nations who are trying to send their poor here. You require a college degree to immigrate, so do we. You require a certain amount of money in the bank to immigrate, so do we. Fair is fair.

There is nothing more to it no matter how you try to confuse the issue.

But, based on your phrasing, if I admit to those things, you will declare that I am a xenophobe.

My take is that there is nothing wrong with wanting to protect the very society and structure that allows us to be successful.

So many people want us to be isolationist when it comes to us meddling in foreign affairs, then why it is wrong to be isolationist in regards to immigration? And I'm not talking about completely cutting off immigration, just maintaining a structured, orderly process of acquiring access.

So, I am not afraid of the strange or unknown, I am simply concerned about what I do know. Left unchecked, illegal immigration will negatively impact the future of this country. Why should we waive our rights to screen and approve all immigrants and limit the overall numbers just like every other country already does?

So, if what I've said makes me a xenophobe in your eyes, then you have used a different definition for the word than I would.
