NO english is used to conduct ANY official business in Mexico, so why do I need to "press 1 for english"? |

That makes as much sense as a 2 dollar bill. |

Because I don't want or need anything from the Spanish speaking community. Should they want anything from me, they'll have to ask....ie, in English. |

This is what really upsets me. My father and grandmother came to the US from Germany and no one said, "hey.. you learn English and we'll learn German so it'll be equal!" That's just dumb. If you live in a country and can't speak the majority language, that's your personal problem. I'm sick and tired of this "invasion" and every single one of them complaining that no one is catering to them enough.. heaven forbid they be expected to learn English! This isn't little Mexico, we aren't a Mexican territory or state. The fact that people and businesses are going out of their way to provide instructions and signs and the like in Spanish should be something you are grateful for because there's no law that says they have to do that! |

I got a better one, why not those living in the U. S. A. speak English, those in Mexico, stay there and speak Spanish. |

If I go to live in a Spanish speaking country, then I would be foolish not to learn their language. I would be hurting myself. It would be pretty arrogant of me to expect them to learn my language. |

That is part of why a country is unique. If you are in america, our language is English. That would be like us invading where ever your family is from and forcing you to learn English. THat is your native toungue and you are in our country, why would we need to learn the language of another country. |

NO
If I wanted to live in a Spanish speaking country I would learn Spanish and have my head examined for wanting to live there
If they want to live in an English speaking country learn English |

Assuming you are talking about the U.S., the answer is "no".
The dominate language of the U.S. is American English. If one immigrates to a country, one should learn the dominate language and official language of that country.
Also, your question contains a falsehood. Most Spanish speaking people how immigrate to the U.S. do not bother to learn English.
In some parts of the U.S., such as the one I live in, many people who speak Spanish discriminate against people who do not speak Spanish. They will claim they can not speak English, even if they can, to refuse service to those that do not speak Spanish. |

We can and we do. When with the ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS or the LEGAL immigrants learn English - Generally THEY DON'T! They don't assimilate, they just stay in their area and don't try to fit in. |

only if English speaking people are moving to Mexico or Spain or some other Spanish speaking country...if you're moving to America don't complain about no one knowing Spanish..especially since the national language here in America is English. |

because, english is the unofficial language of the US. You need to learn our language to adjust to the way we live, we shouldn't have to adjust to the way you live. Don't like it go back to where you came from |

Hi Jose.
In America, the national language is English. It would be prudent for everyone that wants to live and work in America to learn it.
For me, I took 2 years of Spanish in high school and 2 years of Spanish in college because I wanted to. It is something I enjoy.
Thanks! |

If the "English" would live in Mexico then they should learn Spanish.
They shouldn't learn Spanish in their own country any more than they should learn Swedish... |

If you live in America, you learn English. If I live in a country where the official language is Spanish, then I learn Spanish.
Your example has nothing to do with equality. |

There are far more people in the world, yes the world who speak English than speak Spanish.
No offense either, but English is the language of world commerce as well
The only language more commonly used than English is Chinese. Check out the link below:

I refuse to learn Spanish. My great-grandparents came here from Austria after WWI & they had to learn English, no one coddled them or gave them interpreters. If you want to live here learn English! |

When I illegally move to Mexico, I'll then learn Spanish. In the mean time, the illegals should go home and stay there until they can come to the U.S. legally! |

Because the Spanish come to live in an English dominating country. Its fair that if they move to the English speaking country they learn english. No one forced them to move to the US.
If someone moves to a spanish speaking country they'll learn spanish. Same concept. |

You need to be able to read, write and comprehend the language in whatever country you live in. If an English-speaking person were to relocate to a Spanish speaking (or any other non-English speaking country for that matter) they would have to learn that native tongue to be able to function there. At a minimum they would have to know how to ask where to apply for government cheese because otherwise they wouldn't have the least of a chance to support themself or their family. Which is not only very sad but contributes heavily to the mismanagement of funds that could and should be spent in better ways |

Hello meztiso, let me explain something to you. There are millions of Americans in this country, whose first language is not English or Spanish. if you want to talk about equal, meztisos are going to have to learn all the languages spoken in America. Like Hindu, Polish, French, Korean, Chinese, and Lakota? How does that sound? Too much for you? OK, then when in America BE an American and learn ENGLISH like the rest of us. Comprende? |
