Yes, it is a double standard that we need to correct immediately. Illegals should not be hired for any job, no matter how cheaply they are willing to work. Employers who hire them and pay them less than they would pay others are commiting a crime and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This is the only way we will be able to put a complete stop to the problem. As long as illegals know that they can find someone to hire them, they will keep coming. The employers need to know that they are a big part of the problem and that they should go to prison if they continue to hire people that don't have proper documentation.

Not a double standard at all. Yes, America is based on immigrants, however, the immigrants that formed America got jobs, were hard working people, not coming here to 'use the system & live freely off of it'. ( ON YOUR hard working dollars!)

Stereotyping the Mexicans is totally unfair. That's just like saying 'all Americans, Canadians, French, Germans, Russians, etc. are bad'. Yes, there are some that want to come here for a better life, find JOBS & be good legal upstanding citizens. That is to be commended.

It's not just Mexicans, you have others, like Haiti, etc, who come here illegally which hard working Americans pay TAX dollars to support them.

So is THAT FAIR?

America still welcomes immigrants, but like the old saying, 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do..." Whatever country they are from, just do exactly what our founding fathers did. Get legal, get a job & pay taxes. Just like every other country demands they do.

Americans do not hire illegals. Illegals are hired by Businesses in America because the Business would rather pay an cheap illegal then pay an American a living wage to do the same job. I suppose we could all just boycott every business that hires illegal immigrants. How would we know what employees are illegal? Ask for a burger and papers? Thats not a citizens job. The job of regulating the border and dealing with illegal immigrants is the governments job. They have been failing miserably. We shouldn't have to boycott something the government should already be doing something about. We as Americans expect more from our Government, unlike certain illegal immigrants. If our government was meeting our expectations they would be enforcing our borders and make sure business's are not hiring someone who isn't even legal over an American. We as Americans demand this and continue to struggle for the American government to enforce its own laws. We expect the government to also regulate and control the border as they are expected to without putting the demands of the special interest groups before the American people wish for controlled and protected borders.

It is not Mexicans that we have issue with. It is ILLEGAL people who have broken our laws that we do not want.
Futhermore as one American I do not hire any illegals period.
It may be good for big busines for they can afford security to live a safe life, but come to a southern sanctuary city and you will find that it is not a cozy feeling. Too much Crime!!!

As with all illegals, they come here, have boat loads of kids and use the system without paying taxes. If illegals are going to take advantage of the system, then Americans will take advantage of the cheap labor.

Why do "Americans?"

Not all citizens of The United States hire Mexicans or eat at their restaurants.

Just like not all Mexicans believe in La Raza and Aztlan.

But Many of us have no use for the Mexicans who do believe in those things and we feel that by coming here illegally they show their disregard for our countries laws.

Mexicans who come here legally and contribute are as welcome as anyone else, Mexicans who come here for Reconquista are not wanted legally or illegally.

The double standard is Mexican Americans and Mexicans who claim they are here for a better life but actually are here to wage a war of Reconquista.

If you want to make them legal --AMNESTY--- Then where is your bleeding heart for you fellow citizens who are in prison for breaking laws?

They broke the law and should thus stay in prison, we all agree to that.

So why is it OK for forigners to break the law, this seems to be the biggest double standard of all.

And sorry, you really shouldn't have gone here....Wisconsin was actually France's when we bought it, and the indians when they took it, so no illegals wanted here, this was never theirs.

Unless you can give back all the land taken throughout history to the original owners, you have no case.

All you are doing is helping show in one more way how the Mexicans believe they are better and deserve more than anyone else.

No one is where they originally came from, deal with it.

They are invading, just like people have done throughout history and we are fighting this invasion just like people have done throughout history.

At this point, the jobs that hire illegal Mexican immigrants are minor and small scale-- restaurants, day labor, etc.-- which makes up a population of jobs most Americans wouldn't want to do in the first place, and, with a high school diplomas, could easily make the job competitive (they would have no reason to work those jobs unless they paid well, thus, forcing an employer to raise his wages).

The real question is, why are Americans still whining about immigrants, when it's become abundantly clear that corporations are being forced to move nearly every level of production oversees just to stay afloat in the market (resulting in the massive loss of higher level jobs, and the bypass of labor and environmental laws)?

Of course, immigrants, illegal or legal, provide a perfect scapegoat and distraction from issues that are actually pertinent.

Also, a lot of people have "free ride" syndrome, where they delusionally believe that immigrants from Mexico, Cuba and Haiti come here and have easy lives, living off the backs of hard working Americans-- which is absolutely ridiculous. Poverty doesn't disappear once you cross the border, and when labor laws don't apply to you, chances are you'll be working much harder for a lot less money. And for anyone who is too ignorant to realize this (and not that this makes me condone illegal immigration, but just to keep illegal immigration in perspective), illegal immigrants do pay taxes without being eligible for SS benefits and without receiving most job security benefits-- both sales tax, and ITIN.

Americans do not badly want to keep the Mexicans out of the country. It is the illegal immigrants (mostly Mexicans) that Americans do not want in the country. There millions of Mexican Americans and many migrated legally. The businesses who hire illegals do so because they are actually taking advantage of the illegals, paying them less and not providing them health care insurance, etc.

Our apparent double standard is really an illusion. I don't think too many Americans really mind Mexicans coming up here to help get a better life, but we do resent them doing it illegally and demanding rights and privileges once they're here. Immigrants from other nations have to file paperwork and wait their turn to get here, and Mexicans should be treated the same as anyone else.

Ironically enough, Mexico sees thousands of illegal immigrants from Guatemala and other countries to the south of them working in Mexico for better wages. Many Mexicans feel the same way about those illegal immigrants as Americans feel about illegal Mexicans.

As the above poster has said, we always need an enemy, an "other," on whom to blame our woes. Currently it's Mexican immigrants, legal or not.

In the past, it's been Italians, Irish, and especially Asians. The Asians were the only group to have laws passed specifically excluding them.

Americans always have to have a class of people that they denigrate,discriminate, and blame all their problems on. Right now, it happens to be Mexicans. Of course this is more prevalent in an election year. Once the new president is elected, I predict that you will see this in the media less often.
