Why do USA citizens NOT demonstrate in the streets AGAINST Illegal Immigration?

Demonstrations rarely help anything. Political pressure is all that is helpful. Citizens are banding together into organizations that help put the pressure onto the politicians -- especially at the local area. This type of action has proven much more effective than demonstrations.

Because we have to go to our jobs, of which taxes are taken away from our paychecks to support the illegals, but if we dont go to work, then we get fired.

Too busy working to put food on the table and a roof over our head to protest. Also, who would pay for all the services the illegals are getting if we took a day off work to protest. If we did that the government would be after us and the illegals would protest the next day against us for protesting against them and taking food and services off their plate for that day.

The same reason we don't have giant demonstrations against the war in Iraq. US citizens are more interested in American Idol than their country.

By the way, all immigrant bashers, you are much more likely to lose your job to outsourcing, offshoring and bad trade policies than to an illegal unless you are a gardener, a hotel maid, or a construction worker. And guess who refuses to punish employers who hire illegals. I'll give you a hint... it's the REPUBLICANS.

If amnesty is granted, we will be beyond demonstrating. I'm actually a bit concerned at how volatile the reaction will most likely be. Amnesty will bring no celebrations in the U.S.....God forbid the government would even try to be that stupid....Americans will never allow it to come to pass.

They havent demonstrated in the streets, against the illegeals, because the illegals havent finished the road that we were planning on protesting through...

There's several reasons.
It can't be done by too many older people; they have to work, so it's up to the youth. The youth don't care because they're too busy playing PlayStation.

The problem is also that the illegals have more rights than us. I remember during the summer, there were the amnesty marches in California, and the illegals were marching, swearing, urinating and burning flags, and the police officers would not do a thing. They just sat and watched. I'm sure it's not because the officers don't like the country; why serve your country if you don't love it? It's because if they did take action, there are so many illegals, that the officers would be killed. People are scared of protesting against them. If a large group was organized to demonstrate against the illegals, I assume that it would work, but we can't just protest against every illegal, because there are so many all over the country. It might stop a few, but until states start enforcing federal laws, illegal immigration will not be stopped.

I believe it's a simple matter of not having enough time to demonstrate. Many people are working two jobs to feed their families and a third to feed the bloated, overloaded welfare system that seems more than happy to subsidize the illegals and their large crews.

What will demonstrating in the steet do?? WE have to elect intelligent politicians...(or is that an oxymoron in most cases??) who will fight for us where it counts!
I protested against the Viet Nam 'conflict' & got an FBI file before I was 18! So, I am not afraid of protesting, they already know me! But, doing with a bit more intelligence is my way now...

It will happen when enough people have nothing left to lose. Their numbers are increasing daily. I notice that many people said they are too busy working. The higher unemployment goes, the more likely people will be to take their demands to the streets. That's why the government lies about the number of unemployed citizens. If the truth were known it would get ugly. They want to isolate people and make them blame themselves, but that won't be possible for much longer.

I do agree that an amnesty, especially in this recession would drive citizens over the edge.

I've noticed that mainstream Americans don't riot or take it to the streets. They are living too comfortably and are all talk and no action. If anyone riots it would be young people, minorities, women, etc. So my answer to that is no, the majority of Americans are too docile to protest and frankly the major population centers where the immigrants are like New York, LA, Houston, Chicago, Boston, etc profit off legal and illegal immigrants.

I think we are more likely to reform the political parties. It will take at least until 2012, but that is going to be much more of a shock than waving signs on street corners.

Look how incredibly effective the May Day marches were, on immigration (not.)

Honestly I can see a civil war happening again in the USA. Not racially motivated either. Maybe whoever the new prez will be can fix what the Bushes messed up. As far as the immigration problem, I honestly think most do not protest because they want what they want, but they also want to be "Politically" correct and not offend anyone. Personally I would protest If I wasn't alone in the fight. I am on SSI and the government is wanting to give it to illegals who have never put a penny in the system to earn it.

How can we? If we did , we would lose our jobs,home etc. Many people are already working 2+ jobs to just survive while supporting the illegals.

The only thing we can do is keep on sending faxes,emails, phone calls and get it though our government's thick head, Americans are very pissed off about this problem and have enough . Deport the illegals!!
