I agree with you. There are too many here that do not speak any word of English but yet they want to live here and be treated like citizens. I believe if they want to be taking serious about wanting to be here as Americans then they need to learn the English language as well. It is good to keep speaking your home language but you need to speak English as well |

Because they have been catered to by having everything in their language for them, unlike any other group of people that come to the US and do not know English. I really do not know if it is because they are too stupid to learn it, or too arrogant. |

why should they, the teachers, police officers and about all people who work with the public have to know how to speak their language.makes no sense to me. iam sure mexico wouldnt roll out the red carpet for americans. |

You sure? Where did you get your sources from?
From what I know, everyone who comes here tries to learn English. In the process of learning it, they can sound pretty horrible and not easily understood. People who frequently jeer at their efforts doesn't help either.
Anyway, I don't think that Americans would fare much better if they were suddenly thrust in a strange environment where they can barely understand the language... |

I know sometimes you just don't understand why people have to be so racist and assume just because its been 2-6 months they should be able to speak english real well. |

Because they are too lazy, otherwise they would learn the language, apply for citizenship, pay taxes, pay for health insurance, and assimulate into our culture legally! Although it is our fault since we don't have a nationally recongized language, we just all speak english to blend in! Personnally I'm tired of having to call one of my spanish operators to translate for a customer before he signs a contract with us! |

Not all Hispanic people fail to learn English. Most foreigners that come to America have difficulty with English. It is the single most difficult language to learn. Be grateful that you learned it while you learned not to defecate in your pants.
If you are talking about illegal immigrant Hispanics, well, that's a large topic. In my experience, they learn enough to get by, not much more. Our society does not demand more. Someone wrote that teachers and police officers are required to learn Spanish. Not true. My wife teaches and speaks no Spanish. I am a police officer. I know enough to ask them to get out of a car, provide a license, ask their name, etc. I don't understand much if they answer quickly.
It is frustrating for everyone when there is a language barrier. Have you tried learning Spanish? It is among the easiest languages on the planet to pick up. I learned to speak, read and write Korean before I spent a year there. It was difficult, but it allowed me to have a wider, richer experience by learning so much about the people.
I think you are missing the point. The illegal immigrant Hispanics don't want to be American. They want to make cash to send home to their families in Mexico or wherever their family is at. If you could go into Mexico for a few months and earn 20 times your salary for unskilled labor, wouldn't you? Would you take the time to learn Spanish and assimilate? No, I doubt it. You'd make as much cash as you could in the shortest amount of time possible.
You sound like you are frustrated with more than just a person's inability to learn your language in your country. I feel you. I used to think along the same lines as you. I grew up and lost my arrogant sense of superior entitlement that being an American seems to instill.
Good luck with your growth. |

hey crash...if i knew i was going to another country..dont you think i would at least try and learn the language..your answer is kinda retarded |

Because they don't HAVE to ...heck, they don't want to assimilate ... they want to take over! |

There is absolutely no excuse for not being able to speak english. I went to paris once and started listening to french tapes a few weeks prior. When i got there, I stumbled alot and probably sounded like a fool in the beginning. But at the end of my 2 month stay I was practically fluent ... I was even having dreams in French. So these B.S. excuses are just plain garbage. Welcome to America ... now speak English |

NICARAGUA,PANAMA,COSTA RICA,
COLOMBIA,VENEZUELA,PARAGUAY,
ECUADOR AND ETC....
HISPANICS DON'T REFUSE TO LEARN ENGLISH. THEIR TRYING TO TALK ENGLISH PROBABLY NOT PERFECTLY BUT AT LEAST THEIR TRYING... |

refuse ? they don't refuse. if it's easy for someone to pick up a second language then they do.
i have been trying to make time to learn Spanish for more than ten years. I still don't speak a 2nd language. i never refused to learn.
maybe it's really hard for some people to learn English.
Mexicans come here to work at jobs because Americans want them to ! If we stopped giving them jobs they would not come here.
You don't need to speak English to work under the table at a crappy job that no American wants.
You should know that most people that move to another country for good do try to learn the language. |

why don't you learn their language? It's hard to learn another language. Put yourself in their shoes. Don't be ignorant. |

I beg your pardon?! Not every hispanic person is unable to speak English. It is horrible to generalize like that. I could generalize based on your question and say that the first step to becoming "american" is to be ignorant of other races. |

This is so not right. They do want to learn the language, how would you feel if you moved from America to another country and you were expected to speak their language. You need to walk in their shoes. I lived in Europe and at times felt so out of place and awkard and did not have a clue what people were saying around me. It's a very strange feeling and you also feel insecure as well. It's not like you can just learn a Language over night when you've been speaking your language since you were born. |

Because they don't want to be American or Assimilate. They still want to be Mexican, but be so while earning American wages. Send 'em packing is what I say. |
