I am an American living in the Philippines. The news shows how in the United States houses are being foreclosed left and right.
Now I do love my country but I think that immigrants who go to my country end up working harder than they would ever have to work in their own countries. Many immigrants won't admit it but they actually resent their trip to America. |

In Ukraine . . . my friends are PhD college professors . . .
NONE of them owns a car . . . .
NONE of them owns a personal computer . . .
NONE of them owns a cell phone . . . .
They are well educated people . . . and yet they do not have what many HOMELESS people in America have.
(I should mention here, that I work with the Homeless, and yes, many do own cars, and MOST have cell phones)

Beats me. Once you get here you owe taxes, get harassed and want to move to a mountain cave in Afghanistan. |

The grass looks greener. It's mostly for the same reasons people have been moving here for the past 3 or 400 years. |

I don't think a lot of people want to move to the US anymore cause it is not considered the sole land of opportunity anymore. The EU, Canada or Australia provide much better opportunities anyway so if someone wants to make more money, they will rather go there especially because immigration is easier as well. |

They don't. Most people I know can't wait to leave or would rather hang themselves than move there. |

It is the land of opportunity. And some for it freedoms and to escape persecution. |

Because we have many laws and services that protect immigrants, as well as job and education opportunities. We practice freedom of religion as well as freedom of basically everything else!
You can think what you want, do almost anything you want without penalty, and you have the opportunity to be the unique individual that you truly are. If hypothetically you do something that is deemed illegal, we also offer a fair and just (usually) court system.
With all those freedoms and luxuries, I still want to run away sometimes........ |

I know this guy whose parents are immigrants. He said that they came because in America, the wages are ludicrously higher than in most other countries. |

They are retarded if they do. I don't understand why anyone would want to live here. There is no freedom. If they are searching for freedom go to Canada.
Dan in Miami: We may have those things, but things like that is what put our economy in the crapper. Americans definitely are not a smart bunch. |

I don't know but I wish they would stop, I like open space and hate traffic, pollution, crime etc. Maybe you could get the world to not come to the U.S. for me. |

learn spanish and then ask them yourself.
Apparently life is better here. So much better in fact that they are willing to risk jail, deportation and lots of other hardships far worse than you and I can imagine. |
