Why do people hate Immigrants SO much!!!!!?

Some people do hate immigrants, no matter legal status. Others claim to hate only illegal immigrants, but their real hate is directed specifically towards a particular ethnicity, and their bigotry is so transparent that they use the term illegals and Mexicans (or Hispanic) indistinguishably. Yet the majority of Americans who vociferously oppose illegal immigration do not do so out of hatred--at least this is what, in my naivete, I prefer to believe. Many Americans are simply indignant that the laws of their country are not being respected, and would want for the problem to be solved. And there is even a good number of Americans who--disheartened though they may be by the pattern of illegal immigration--actually have sympathy for illegal immigrants, and regard this as a problem caused by the greed of American businesses, which ought to be--in their minds--prosecuted for the crime of hiring undocumented workers.

I happen to be a legal immigrant, and one who has nothing but resentment towards the process that allowed me to get my green card. If the anti-illegal immigration side showed a commitment to reform that inhumane process and make it *possible* for low-wage workers to come to the US legally in a controlled flow that reflects market demands, and if they disavowed and repudiated the racists and shrill among them--and there are many such imbeciles among them--, then I would be very happy to endorse their jihad against illegal immigration. Until then, I have nothing but utmost solidarity towards illegal immigrants, who are being dehumanized in frankly appalling ways. (e.g., skipping one work day is "reason" to deport a human being, according to them, but firing a worker that was "hired" illegally is no reason to sue, let alone deport, a business.)

To the lady from the previous answer: if you're going to lecture us immigrants on the importance of learning English, it certainly behooves you to express yourself properly in your native language.

More: why do so many people here say that immigrants aren't hated but illegals are? The fact of the matter is that there are people who do hate immigrants--whether legal or illegal. There are also people who hate only illegal immigrants. And ther are people who oppose illegal immigration strongly, but who do not have room for pusillanimous and childish hatred in their good hearts.

I think alot of people believe its an "invasion", the govt. said so themselves that illegal immagration has been happening for several years. Im Mexican-American and i dont like some of the comments people say. They talk and talk about Mexican this, Mexican that... but if the issue is immigration, then thats what it should be. I know ilegalls from Korea, Viet Nam, Honduras, Cuba, everywhere and you never hear anything about that. I think the media is to blame for most of the hatred and making "fun" at the immigrants. Remember who you are and where you came from. Hell, the US took North America from the Native Americans. My Dads parents were both living on reservations in Arizona until they were adults. Thats not right either. I hear people say youre not American, if youre not Native American. I think thats crap!! This is America!! And so I guess theyre saying Americans took from Americans. Its a touchy thing to talk about. But I do think they should become legall if they want to live here so that there is no problems.

I have no problem with immigrants at all. As long as they adopt our ways and not try to change my National Anthem. I have many friends who are immigrants from all over the world. And they did it all the legal way! Some are even US Citizens now. They adopted our ways and brought their wonderful customs.

umm because they think they run this country when they get here.

There is nothing wrong with an immigrant. Everyone without native American Indian in their blood came from immigrants.
It is only the ILLEGAL immigrants that are hated or disrespected. If you want to come here, do it the right way and don't expect us to change our country to suit your needs.

My father is an immigrant. I do not agree with illegal immigrants demanding citizenship. My grandparents went a few years back and became American citizens. I watched them study for the test. They worked for it. Crossing a fence does not give anyone the right to become a citizen.

I think it may be because they get everything for free.They don't have to pay taxes,They get free food,free housing and everything else when everyone else has to pay for them being here.I don't know that is what i hear when people talk at work.

We don't hate immigrants. We hate ILLEGAL immigrants. The reason is because they hurt the US economy and the US way of life. I can't go anywhere in my city (Anaheim, CA) without hearing an illegal speaking Spanish or seeing a Spanish billboard. They have have been pouring into our country for way too long. Who do they think they are to make DEMANDS of the US government? They can go to hell because they have no right to be here in the first place. Illegal immigration is out of control.

i REALLY dont understand,if you wanna hate-hate people who come to steal,or other stuff..But that is NOT ONLY immigrants who do that.99% of immigrants come ONLY to work,so thats good for the economy any way,is stupid to hate someone who does nothing bad(if anything-the opposite)Lets face it,if there wasnt people to come for work from other countries-there wouldnt be many people working..Most people i know are on benefits,thats how the goverment makes it easy if you are lazy..We all know that!
