Poverty is often the spur that drives people to leave their homes and family. Civil wars are another reason. An oppressive religious regime might make others leave. Some countries have liberal, democratic values which would attract lots of people. |

Its always about the money. Why break your back in your country for a few bucks a day when they can come to the US, get health care, electricity, running water, welfare for their kid, and on top of all of that, earn much more money. Employers love them too: they pay them less, workers dont complain, and no unions. Its always about the money. |

For love, plain and simple.
I love my home country (New Zealand) and have had a wonderful life here. But my husband is American and missed his family, so after 9 years in NZ, with the kids now being old enough to cope with such a huge life change, we made the decision to move there instead.
Now, if only US immigration were as ready for it we are. :D |

Ever heard of the saying "the grass is always greener" and besides....we lived in South Africa and moved to the UK in fear of our lives. I'd rather not get raped and mugged if its all the same thank you!! Things aren't as cushy all over the world, as they are in wales!!! |

the standard line is; "for a better life..."
And it's likely that your youth or lack of perspective prevents you from understanding that. In time however you may.
I've lived in several places around the world, and didn't always know the reason why. Born in the UK, a few years after the war, my family moved to the states in the 50s to be with my aunt Emily & uncle Clyde. After graduating from University in the early 70s, I returned to London on my own, and lived there until the 80s, when I came back to the states, except this time, instead of living on the east coast (NY), I went live to the west coast instead; first in San Francisco, then moving down to the LA area, finally settling in Orange County, midway between LA & San Diego.
In the early 90s I moved to northeast Asia and have been here and about ever since.
Expatriate living has its challenges, but it also has its rewards, particularly for those of us who do not choose to live life firmly in the middle class.
Nothing wrong with it mind you, but some of us just never really settle down, and feel that a life lived closer to the edge, seems just a bit more interesting.
Anyroad, that's just one man's perspective...perhaps it will help open up your thinking toward a better understanding. |

Usually its for economic reasons, if you think you can become better off somewhere else you will seek it out and go there, happened throughout history. |

Its must be a really hard decision, some people have to and some just want to - better weather / job / whatever.
I love Ireland but I'd love to move somewhere warmer - if only I could move all my family and friends too! : ) |

Cause everyone hates you when you are on top like us even if otheres don't think so. But it stiill won't stop them from wanting to be seen with you even tho they hate you. Oh and lets not forget to throw in the fact that the third world countries have nothing to offer a man with a dream . As for the emigrant, immigrant thing the illegals emigrated from wherever to become immigrant's here. |

Lol you're lucky to be able to afford to live in Cardiff, we had to move up into the Valleys in order to buy a house because we (like just about all other first time buyers) have been priced out of the market down there. I'd much sooner live in Cardiff, its bleak and depressing up here and everyone has to commute down to the city to work anyway as theres no jobs up here.
You have to admit that Wales is not a great place to live unless you already have plenty of money. Theres sod all in the way of decent jobs around here. Only consolation is that the cost of living in lower then in somwhere like London. |

They are not happy where they are for a variety of reasons.
When you come down to it, people do immigrate world-wide. To the UK, out of the UK, etc. People move. It happens. |

well, how would you feel if you worked soo hard but couldnt feed your children?
how would you feel if you knew people in other countries were wasting food and money while you suffered?
What if a war broke out in your country. What if you like to travel?
Don't be so arrogant, people don't decide to move 'for the crack' |
