Why do people in Yahoo Answers say I'm liar for saying I'm a Mexican?

It's a hobby of mine asking questions on Yahoo Answers. Very often, whenever I ask a question mentioning me being a Mexican living in Mexico, people tell I'm not a Mexican instead of answering my question.
I think I broke a record on this account, THREE people said I wasn't Mexican in the same question:

If someone could write in English the way you wrote( I am not saying that your English is flawless, mind you) just by watching soap opera, then he/she would have been working with either the UN, NATO, WHO, WORLD BANK or some global/multinational corporates... that sort of places, not a Mexican/ American border laundry mat. I often get these kinds of comments which have nothing to do with my question, ISN’T IT ARROGANT TO SAY SOMEONE COULD NOT POSSIBLY LEARN ENGLISH UNLESS THAT PERSON LIVED IN THE USA?

Yes, of course it's rude.
We don't find it strange when someone from France or Germany is fluent in English, because we consider those countries to be civilized.
But, unfortunately, we tend to stereotype Mexicans as being poor and uneducated. In many American's minds, all Mexicans live in shacks and spend their days tending crops or smuggling drugs, and then die at a young age of some third-world disease. If someone believes that everyone in Mexico lives like that, then it is very difficult for them to believe that they could be intelligent or educated enough to learn a second language (especially when many of us have failed to do so).
This ties in to your original question as well. Mexicans living in the US are also stereotyped, and a disproportionate number of them have low-income service jobs, like housekeepers, landscapers, cleaners, etc. Your rude customer could very well have expected you to bend over backwards to serve him, because that's what he would expect of a Mexican at home. |

Don't let them bother you! If you are Mexican or not it doesn't matter. This site has changed a lot from the past year and the people seem to have a lot of issues. Don't take anything personal on here cause you don't know what is behind some of these people. |

this question has nothing to do with immigration, unless you are in the states. Even you have to admit most cannot speak English this well, even after being here in the states for years, most do not even try to learn the language. |

Those people are ignorant and make idiotic assumptions by thinking that, because you are Mexican, you can't type and/or speak English well. Ignore them and don't give them any of your attention. Anyone can learn English in ANY country, it doesn't just have to be in the US. |

it is arrogant and i apologize for my brethren it is a shame that this world has made people so cruel and untrusting but you have to understand that the world we live in is full of liars and people trying to make a living by conning people,all i can say is ignore those comments and focus on the people that are trying to answer your question.and maybe people forget about spell check it is a wonderful thing that spell check |
