It's an easy way of shutting down debate. Instead of addressing the point you're making, they cry 'racist!' - the equivalent smear as being accused of Communism in the past - to de-legitimize what you have to say. It's the same in Britain - anyone who dares to suggest that maybe the current levels of immigration are unsustainable (and it's going to get worse next year), or that we need more time to let the present immigrants integrate, are treated as beyond the pale. |

a lot of the anti-illegal immigration debate is steeped in racism - just look at some of the answers on this site
I don't assume all anti-immigration advocates are racist, but I also don't hesitate to call them racist when they clearly are. |
