All I hear is if a Mexican guy is with an American girl, not is because he wants his greencard. Well, guess what, so not true for 1 245i closed a longggggg time ago, no one can get their greencard by marriage now unless that immigrant has proof that they have been here since before April 2001. My fiance, my cousin's boyfriend, my friend's husband among others are with their partners because of love not interest in greencards neither one qualifies for a greencard and they are not married in Mexico, I have been to my fiance's home in Mexico and all of our friends are from there. Yes,some are married in Mexico, I do know that but, hey guess what Americans cheat all the time, too. That is not a thing that only Mexicans do. So, why does everyone believe that they only want their greencard?

The "bull" about "unless that immigrant has proof that they have been here since before April 2001" came from 3 different attorneys, I have spoken to about my fiance. And before you even start about him, he doesn't even know I have contacted an attorney for his greencard, our plan is to move to Mexico once I have my interpreters certification and our house is finished there. However, I still want him to be able to cross the border anytime so we can visit my family here and I don't want him having to risk his life as he did when he came here.

This is just my opinion....
From a young age, Americans are subjected to mass brainwashing from the US government, to constantly reinforce this idea that America is the greatest country on Earth. Every day millions of Americans spout these same 7 words. Unfortunately they have no idea how wrong they are!
Therefore, why wouldn't all those same small minded people believe that the main reason someone would want to marry an American citizen is to obtain a green card? If they could actually wrap their heads around the concept of love as a reason to marry an American, it would start to crack the foundation of the "America is the greatest country on Earth" ideology. |

Its not unusual for illegal immigrants or legal but non permanent immigrants (students, H1B visas, etc) to be interested in marrying to get legal permanent residency or citizenship. The last person I knew who faced this was dating a German flight attendant. She was pressing him for marriage a few months into dating. |

how many stories just on here do you hear this though, he only wanted me for green card or citizenship, he has a wife in his home country, they are abusive etc.... how many on here alone ask if they become legal as soon as they marry a citizen and how to go about making their illegal spouse become legal. when you can say every illegal does not want to become legal then I will believe it, these people go to any lengths to break the law coming here and staying here, they will go to any lengths to remain here. |

This is being very stereotypical. Mexicans are not the only ones who want to marry a US citizen for legalization. I have heard of Arabs, Alabanians and Yugoslavians to do this as well, not to mention people from other countries.
However, you are right; just by simply marrying a US citizen does not automatically qualify them for permanent residency. |
