Any one who is an illegal immigrant should not be entitled to any of the hand out given to legal Immigrants. It is most of illegal immigrant's that cause people in this country whom YOU call leeches not to have jobs to do. Are you classing all people who are unable to get work as leeches?
This country was not just built on the back of immigrants but also the people who where here when this country was invaded by the Romans, the Vikings and of course the Normans. All the a-fore mentioned invaders were all illegal immigrants. How many people have surnames from these invaders? This Includes myself.

I wondered how long it would be before I would get more thumbs down than up. why do some people who don't have any illegal or legal immigrants near them think that those who do are making it all up because they think we are anti-immigration. perhaps we who have them living near us just happen to get the rotten ones!? |

I was made redundant after 5 years of loyal service to a company that moved abroad so it could save money. So why the hell are the immigrants coming to britain? They already have most of the work going to thier countries! |

Time will tell, lots of people have had bad experiences with immigrants here, me included.
Not all are bad but why take the risk when we are already one of the most crowded lands on the planet with more people per mile than china.

You say you don't like seeing UK people on benefits. the benefit system was put in place for the indigenous population. UK taxes go to it for the benefit of UK residents. We are no here to fund the world and his wife.
Secondly, you say that many immigrants are highly skilled & want to work. Nothing wrong with that. if they work legally & pay taxes, then they are contributing to the system. It's the ones who come here simply to collect free money, which many of them send back to their country of origin for their families there. This is WRONG.
Lastly, you suggest that these immigrants come here for fear of violence on their own coountry. the deifntion of asylum is 'the first country you come to in which your life is no longer in danger.' these immigrants pass through many safe countries to get to us, using the excuse of asylum, just to get their hands on the free money & other perks. |

you stupid girl get a life i worked for over 30yrs as a plasterer/builder i now cant get any work cause of all the poles taking the jobs for half the pay i now have to work on the taxis and they are even doing that now wake up |

For a start they bring their diseases with them in which most have been eliminated such as tb, smallpox have all come back. They have made some towns in this country no go areas with rapes, violence. They are driving wages down so companies would rather employ immigrants then people from this country. I would love a job on the railways but cant get on. Also they come here expecting free nhs treatment and benefits which some people in this country cant get. |

the immergrants steal jobs from uk tax payers, if ive worked all my life in the uk and payed tax, then why should someone who comes from poland never payed uk tax, take a job from me, becuase he works for half the money, and when he has done 5 years here he will go home and retire. and as for the comment that they are skilled workers is total rubbish, have you seen the state of the houses in the countries they come from and that will tell you how skilled their construction industry is, total shiv !, check your facts before making such stupid statements, you should show a bit more patriotism or go back with them to the third world

The thing is they lower our standard of employment rights by taking low paid jobs many below the minimum wage and they are working illegal hours.
So they are employed before the average person on the street because they will put up with such terrible conditions. Hence this is why people are saying they are stealing the jobs.
If they didnt do this employers couldn't get away with such exploitation !!! :) |

No one objects to those that come here to work, I have worked in 5 countries outside the UK and found no resentment.
What I do object to is the benefit scroungers arriving here, most of whom are not entitled to benefits, but due to incompetent officials they manage to scrounge these benefits from my hard earned taxes, while pensioners reaching 80 years of age are given a paltry extra 25p a week. |

If there was more jobs maybe the british people on the dole would work. People only employ asylum seekers because they are cheap labour and they are taking up the jobs. I work and have done since I left school but it annoys me that we even have asylum seekers, they shouldnt be here the english race is getting wiped out as it is |

Granted this country is made up solely of immigrants if you go back far enough. But back then there was a lot that needed done. There was more work then there were workers. Today with unemployment so high and so many losing their jobs to lesser qualified minorities there is a resentment factor. |

Economic migrants are not the only immigrants flooding into the country. The real issue is the Governments refusal to impose any kind of control or restriction on immigration which has led to a huge flood of immigrants placing strain on our infrastructure. Whilst few would disagree some controlled immigration is acceptable, the current situation has caused resentment which manifests in people's attitudes toward the immigrants themselves. The indigenous population who have contributed via NI contributions and taxes should be entitled to benefits but not to abuse the system. All comers who have not contributed should not be eligible for any benefits or housing, and should be required to prove they have enough money to support and house themselves as is required by other countries. Resentment at immigrants being allocated social housing ahead of the indigenous population is understandable. Other countries are more selective about whom they allow in but we have accepted Roma who are treated like scum in their own country, and any number of criminals/undesirables creating more social problems and higher crime rates. People have been tolerant for decades since the first flood of Ugandan Asians were given British passports after being expelled from Uganda by Idi Amin. You really need to do some research and understand the history of immigration to this country before deciding people are unjustly intolerant when the reverse is true. We've just reached the point where enough is enough and we're sick of our national identity being continually eroded by the influx.
<Edit> I don't understand your accusation of answerers sounding like Nazis. I don't see anyone advocating rounding up immigrants and gassing them. You really shouldn't post ill-informed opinions if you cannot stand for people not to agree with you. Indeed it is you who now sounds like an ignorant bigot. |

I have no problem with people coming here to WORK, to INTEGRATE, and ABIDE BY OUR LAWS. Providing that no more housing is built to purely accommodate immigrants.
It is the rest that get to me. And the ones that try to banish our traditions because they find it offensive. |

Not all British workers are "leeches". Many are hard working people who are being cheated out of jobs by immigrants who will work for less!
Why should our own people lose out on having a "better life" because immigrants are coming here taking jobs away?
I don't care if these asylum seekers are highly skilled, so are many of our own people. We do not have an infinite supply of jobs in this country and the more jobs that are given to immigrants the more British people will lose out. This is WRONG!

i know of 2 english people on the dole. both through no fault of their own. i do not know any benefit scroungers. i know a lot of hard working english people. where are all the british scroungers? i know of people who's jobs were sent abroad to china or eastern europe. these people immediately found other work. i also know and work with polish immigrants. they are not starved and beaten .they get the same as the rest of us. so i fail to see how you can say they are hard done by while us english people are nothing but scoungers. get your facts right please. |

I just posted a similar question.. I've noticed a lot of people here in the UK are very ignorant to immigrants.. I'm not an immigrant, but I would love to live here. I think it's a great country.. I'm not treated very badly at all, is it because I'm Canadian? It's ridiculous, really, how judgemental people can be. I'm not fleeing my home because I want to take all of your jobs away, I'm coming to this country to build a life with the man I love. Is that such a bad thing to do?
Oh, and another thing, how many citizens from the UK are going to Spain? Do the people in Spain sit there and treat the people from the UK horribly? I highly doubt it.. |

Sorry Sally, but you need to check your history. I believe the roads and railways were built by British people, way before the start of mass immigration in the 50's & 60's and way before the floodgates opened after the EU decided to expand its horizons into eastern europe !!
The vast majority of immigrants/asylum seekers are NOT oppressed - they are ecomonic migrants and since our economy is screwed, we can't take any more ! |

Another American here.
Crusader is off base by about a mile. Americans support immigration wholeheartedly--LEGAL immigration.
Americans of all walks of life -- 78% of them in total -- have issues with ILLEGAL immigration though and want it stopped.
That's the vast majority.
Count me in the vast majority who are all for legal immigration, but consider illegal immigrants to be criminals who should be arrested and deported.
And as far as the "trailer trash" comment made by this same ANswerer.....how Un AMerican to call someone this type of name simply because they live in a mobile home. That's just plain shameful. |

Answer is not black and white:
Immigrants usually are very industrious because they see the opportunity to have a better life, something for the most part that wasn't available to them in their homeland. Unfortunately, in the past and possibly to some degree today, citizens that have been in this country for generations and are struggling, find it offensive and envy them that they accomplish what they do by their hard work.
Now, if you are speaking of illegal immigrants, I find them offensive. Immigrants must be screened for criminal records, diseases, ability to support themselves, etc.
When they circumvent the legal channels and come here illegally, they also deprive the people who are waiting to come to our country through legal channels.
As an example of the extreme, do you recall in the seventies when Castro, to make a point with the Americans for their acceptance of Cuban immigrants, released and sent hundreds of prisoners from Cuba to the U.S.A. What a mess that was.
There are reasons for immigration laws that protect the immigrants and the citizens of the country they wish to emigrate to. The host country profits by the influx of different ethnic peoples, but only if controls are in place and followed
