Why do so many foreigners succeed in the U.S. while long time citizens fail?

Foreigners often work for less and don't complain about conditions as much because it's better than whta they had.

The problem is they don't think they have to work. Or take responsibility for their lives. It should always be somebody else to look after them, while the Eastern Europeans have been through the hell that was communism and they know that all they need is a chance and they can succeed if they work hard.

The comparison you are making are two different subjects. Foreigners come here with nothing on there back for a better life and damn hard to get it. Americans are lazy and won't even take some jobs b/c it's "beneath" them.

People that come here from other countries do so with the intention to W O R K! Even if it's picking oranges, foreigners have far better work ethics than the average American. We are fat, lazy slobs that expect the government to take care of us.

Have you ever heard the expression, "Pigs don't know that pigs stink?" The reason why I am asking is because many citizens of the US who were born here don't know just how unique a place it is. Their blindness to the opportunity this country affords them is the reason why so many of them fail.

I have lived in three foreign countries for extended periods of time. I have been to a lot of places in the world. I am no fool, and I know that the US is not perfect, but I also know that it is one of the only places in the world where you can, literally, come with nothing but the clothing on your back and actually have a chance to make something of yourself. I know that because I have lived in places where no amount of hard work, brains or money can get you ahead in the game. There are societies where sheer willpower will simply not work to get you success. It's just a fact of life. That's why people come to the US. They know that if they come here, that hard work will pay off. When they get here, they know that it's going to be an uphill battle, but they take it on and they pull themselves up by the bootstraps, and they thrive.

The people who were affected by Hurricane Katrina are kind of a special case. I live clear out West, in Utah, and we ended up with some refugees clear out here. There was a couple who were in the news for a while because they met as refugees, and fell in love during their odyssey. By the time they landed in Utah, they had decided to marry. Despite the fact that African Americans make up a tiny, tiny part of our population, they felt welcome here, and they have thrived. They were on TV last fall on the anniversary of the hurricane. They are now married. He has a good job which he did not get through an aid agency, but got through regular channels. I think she's going to college. They own a home, which is a first for both of them. They are thriving. Unfortunately, many of the other Katrina refugees haven't had what is probably the key to this couple's success: the opportunity to leave the area and thrive somewhere else. Many of them are still in New Orleans, still poor, still unemployed, and still living in weird and transitory locations. I don't think they are lazy or apathetic--I think they are beaten down.

There are plenty of Americans who are apathetic and idle. There are more, however, who are living the "American Dream", whatever that dream means to them. The ones who are doing so are the ones who realize the unique opportunities they are afforded by being here. The rest are just people who don't know how good they have it: they are, to be rather crude, pigs who don't know they stink.

Many Immigrants come from a world where they struggled daily to survive. Then they somehow through struggles, and lots of work make it to the good old USA. Once here they simply continue doing what works. Often they live with extended family occasionally 3 generations in one household. These (legal) immigrants work together each family member doing what it takes to save money. I don't want to cause shock, yes fellow Americans savings is a real money management option. Every member of the family understands that excesses,things we all take for granted have to wait for the families dream. That dream brought to the USA, because they hear from many sources that success can be fulfilled in our country.They don't allow themselves the immediate gratifications we Americans think we need.They have the ability to see what they want, and they commit themselves towards that goal. I say God bless them. If we want to sacrifice we can do the same.

Government programs and opportunities a citizen is not allowed to have. I wanted to be genius to this question, since the same question has always lingered in my own mind, and makes me angry.

This is the closest explanation I can give you, to support my answer, that Liberals give what we have away to foreigners, that WE worked for, but not allowed to have...

Affirmative Action is one
Democrats giving Social Security to immigrants when they haven't worked a day, or put a dime into it....thank you Jimmy Carter!
And three, is giving illegal aliens free everything!

Real easy. Foreigners have not been subjected to the government school systems in this country that teach everyone is a victim, the US is a bad country, founded by bad people who stole the nation from the Indians, life isn't fair, and all of us are entitled to a guarantee of success.

They think they are owed, because they live off the government and like getting something for nothing. They were told to leave and stayed. It's sad to say that FEMA failed them also.

The comparisons that you are making have nothing to do with each other.

I don't think you should generalize people because some are more ambitious than others and some have to work harder than others, both immigrants and Americans. Not everyone is born rich, so it depends how far you want to go in life and what your necessities are. The more ambition you have and the more you are willing to work or excel in your education, the farther you will get . That goes the same to everyone everywhere.
