Why do so many people dislike/hate illegal immigrants so much?

I took this immigration class this summer in central mexico. It wasnt about statistics or anything like that.. it was a class about the personal story of immigration. What i learned mostly was people are ignorant to the way illegal immigrants mostly mexicans are. Have you noticed that no one cares about illegals from norway or ireland? no because they are white and they speak the same language and have some of the same customs.. but Latino people are darker, speak differently and their country is seen as dirty, lazy, and uneducated. We tie that view of mexico and latin america to the people who inhabit it. America has always had an issue with immigrants before Latinos, it was the irish, and before that we treated africans like dogs.. Why does america do it? I think we are all trying to claim something, find our sincere heritage, and be one united group, and people may think immigrants our infringing on our unity.

Hello!Yes, I understand what you mean. Like there are so many illegal immigrants out there just wanting to have not just a beeter life for them but also a beeter life of their family from their country of origin. Actually Americans (not all) descriminate other races like the Filipinos, Chinese and the Latins. Maybe they hate them because they are more hard working...

ok i dont have a problem with immigrants, they are hardworking. just get citizenship and pay taxes like the rest of us, its not fair immigrants using our tax dollars at hospitals and such and not paying for it. i dont care if they are here LEGALLY.

That is a great question!
I don't believe that people hate immigrants as much as they do not respect them and/or feel safe about them so easily coming to America.
There are two sides to this question and I believe both are valid:

Pro immigration is very understandable. If people are starving and looking for a better life that they would not have then we need to help them. As humans we should all gather together to make a better world for our children and ourselves.

Anti immigration- These immigrant do not speak the widely spoken language of America most of the time. They can be dangerous demeans the whole establishment of border control and due process into America.

Take in mind that this is not the whole side to either of the stories. I am just saying you need to look past what you have been raised with to gather a correct understanding of this.

But to answer your question not every one hates them. The law says they can not be here so they are breaking the law.

In large part, I think it's because many people have the perception that illegals are stealing jobs and being a burden on government programs. While there may be some, the fast majority are here to work and they are filling jobs that would usually go unfilled or underfilled. I don't necessarily have an issue with cracking down on illegal immigration, but unless the crackdown comes with a workable guest worker program, it will hurt our economy.

They are hated so much (and I think the feeling is mutual) because they expose the idiosyncrasies of your so called 'world leading nation'.

Another reason is your average immigrant, whether legal or not, is probably a lot smarter than your average Joe, or is it Pedro now?

i am an electrical contractor and they mean more and more undercutting competition. they are putting me out of business and i cannot pay the mortage if this keeps up. if i cannot pay the mortgage, that affectts my wifeand kids very much. it is a bad thing.

I think the main thing is that the process to immigrate legally is so long and difficult that people get jealous of those in Mexico who jump the line and come in without waiting their turn.

There are a lot of reasons why people dislike illegal immigrants. Some are simply racist. Others are not racist, just xenophobic and afraid of cultural change. Some feel shortchanged that their relatives/ancestors had to work hard to immigrate legally, while illegals make a mockery of the entire system. Others question why illegals deserve to receive many of the same basic services that citizens do despite not paying for them (via federal income tax). Personally, I don't take much of an issue with illegal immigration; I think there are bigger issues we need to worry about at the moment. However, I think in the long run we will ultimately need to do something about it, I'm just not sure what. The law is the law afterall.

As a member of a federally recognized Native American Indian tribe, whose ancestors were in what is now called the United States when Europeans were immigrating to the "New World", either voluntarily or involuntarily, I am not in favor of anyone being allowed "illegal" access into my country.

I am not a full-blood Native American, which indicates that my Indian ancestors propagated with some of the Europeans who came to the "New World". At the time my European ancestors came, there were no immigration laws, and my German, Irish, and English ancestors were breaking none.

As a "mixed blood", I have many political issues to consider on the subject of immigration. My Indian affiliation abhors the treatment of the American Indians; yet, I am proud of my Irish, German, and English ancestors who immigrated to the "New World", later to become the United States, for their perseverance and dedication to freedom. These immigrants contributed to the financial stability of the United States.

Illegal immigrants from Mexico, and other Hispanic countries, are not contributing to the financial stablity of the United States. According to statistics I have read, at least 80 percent of all money earned by illegal Hispanic immigrants is being sent to family members who are still living in another country.

As a substitute teacher in an American public school, I receive $9 per hour, while "illegal" Hispanics are earning $20 to $30 an hour as "construction" workers, and are being approved for loans to purchase $20,000 SUV's and $150,000 homes. Some of my tax dollars are providing free medical care, education, and free lunches for these illegal immigrants children. These illegal immigrants are not providing anything for my children!

Because they are breaking the law. I don't think that anything that happened a few hundred years ago is revelant to what is happening today. Law breakers should, and need to be punished/deported. It's common sense.

i believe you are referring to Mexicans right? well here's my problem they don't contribute anything to our economy.they don't pay taxes we foot the bill on there medical expenses and on top of it they refuse to speak our language.its not right

lets all go to mexico and see if were treated the same there.were not welcome there but they can flock here like birds.its like saying your welcome in my home but i'm not allowed in yours.

1st off, there is no such thing as an "illegal immigrant." Immigrants are people that move here with the intention of living here permanently. If someone is ILLEGAL, they don't have that right.

2nd, people are livid with the fact that the illegal aliens are demanding rights and benefits. The are stealing identities, jobs and services. They don't pay taxes. They are an extreme drain on our economy and infra structure. They are not here for a "better life." They are here for the free services they don't get in their home country. If illegals wanted the "same thing" as everyone else, they would want to pay for the services they take by paying taxes. Do you see them rushing to do this?

3rd, WE DON'T NEED THEM to support our economy! We don't need "guest worker" program. There were a couple of illegal alien protest days that were support to show how we would fall apart without them. Guess what? We were BETTER off without them! Produce costs might rise a couple of cents. However, compared to the BILLIONS spent on them annually, I like that trade-off.

When our ancestors come here LEGALLY, they worked hard to assimilate and build the community. They worked to build this country. The current crop of 30+ million illegal aliens don't do this. Most refuse to even learn English.

You can't legitimately compare our ancestors to the current group of illegal alien CRIMINALS. Yes, criminals! That's one huge difference. The illegals are breaking the law. Our ancestors didn't!

And, this has nothing to do with race or color. We are just as livid at the illegals from England, Canada, Ireland as the ones from Peru, Egypt or China.

I think people dislike them because they are different. But it really depends what you choose to focus on. Their skin? Their occupation? What part of town they're from..? They ARE the same. We just don't choose to see it that way. It's a real stupid facet of human nature. Beat and blame the minority.

In all the sad honesty, a lot of the immigration issue has to do with race, racism, and feelings of superiority. I know most people seem to think only Mexicans are illegal. More mexicans are illegal than other nationalities. Why? DUH, Mexico is a poor corrupt country and IT IS RIGHT BENEATH US. You can surely believe if the U.S were in the middle east or surrounded by third world countries we would have many illegal immigrants from different countries. If China were under the U.S right now moat people would be assuming all illegal immigrants were Chinese. It is easy for anyone to stand on a high pedestal and morally judge someone. We humans don't have much introspect. To the Native American, you contradicted yourself. If illegals only send money to Mexico how do they have money for those suvs and houses? oh wait, let me guess buying a house and car isn't contributing to society...? To me, thw immigration thing is a human issue. I have come to accept that my fellow humans are mostly unevolved, amoral, beasts. They have no compassion or ability to worry beyond themselves. They lack critical thinking skills. All I would like to see beyond politics, immigration debates, and nonsense, is for the HUMAN race to EVOLVE. We were not given this brain to squander it with such lowly animalistic survival of the fittest garbage.
