Why do some Americans compare today's illegal immigrants to previous European immigrants?

Personally, I don't know anyone who would agree with that statement. If you mean the pro's, I don't know any of them either. I believe that you are right in your assessment of the illegal aliens goals though. Don't forget all of the freebies they get!

Because they are illogical people with no sound argument so they resort to 1. calling those opposing them racist 2. saying we stole land from them or 3. by comparing illegal aliens to legal immigrants who wanted to become Americans in every way who loved America and respected our flag, our land, our laws and our people and learned English, worked hard and assimilated into American society rather than expect America to give them handouts, speak their language and cater them them.

I don't know, they came in legally, through points of entry like Ellis Island or wherever and registered with authorities, they didn't just walk across the border at say "hi, I'm here".

Theres no comparison, previouse immigrants didnt come here and live off of others that worked hard to assimilate and build and fight for this country. Visit Ellis Island and you will understand entry into the US was not guaranteed. Every immigrant who came by ship had to purchase a round trip non refundable ticket. If for a variety of reasons they were not admitted they were shipped back to their port of departure. Check Ellis Island.org. Its a long time since admission to the US was open to all. Maybe the native Americans who came via China were the last to find the gates wide open. The very earliest European settlers were employees of trading companies, most likely only those with skills and good health were worth the investment.

i call it diversionary tactics. it's when you use whatever tact necessary to change attention from the real (fact based) issue. they do not want be part of the U.S. they think the U.S. is the northern part of mexico so why would they fly or respect the american flag. go on youtube and watch mexicans drag the U.S. flag on the ground, stomp on it and try to burn it. listen to how at the swift meat packing ICE raid they say they belong here and they have lived here for thousands of years. until you do don't preach to the rest of us, open your eyes.

Many illegal mexicans believe that the pilgrims got off the ships in the 1600s and walked down to starbucks and the mall and did not have to fight indians, disease, starvation and extreme hardships for this way of life. The illegal mexican did not have the guts to stay in his country and fight for his rights and a better way of life but came to america to moan about how his country treated him and looking for a freebie.

Because we've been duped into believing that the Europeans came to an empty land, wide-open for settlement. This land was actually already inhabited, and what we did to the Native Americans is way worse than what the illegal immigrants of today are doing. I think the outrage about the "illegals" is a bit hypocritical considering what was done to make room for our ancestors.

Now they are taking up jobs no one wants so many more people will go hungry of not eat fruits and vegetables if those prices go up.

The similarities are great. European immigrants didnt learn english in half an hour an assimilate seamlessly in. What you see are the products of years and years of assimilation. Also they too had no papers. So they immigrated "illegally" if you will.

Mexican immigrants are no different than the Europeans other than in their skin color. Lots of them cant speak English, like the Europeans. They will not assimilate after two days in our culture. Its like shock therapy, seeing new things and learning a new language all while trying to make a living isnt easy. They will not assimilate in a pinch. it will take time, as it took time for the Europeans.

"And when they arrived here they learned English, & assimilated into mainstream American society." not true, learning English was very difficult as there were no classes. Most immigrants learned enlgish 10 years after they arrived from their children.
