1) Iraq is not a "terrorist" country
2) America's #1 industrial export is ARMS (we supply most of the terrorists in the world with their munitions)
3) #1 polluter in the world
4) #1 consumer of resources in the world
5) Continually interfering in the internal affairs of foreign countries
6) First nation in the world in the entire history of mankind to PRE-EMPTIVELY attack and destroy a sovereign nation, and create a foreign policy based on that premise: The Bush Doctrine
7) We say we don't torture out of one side of our mouth, while also saying out of the other side of our mouth that we do torture. Very confusing. Also internationally illegal.
8) A foreign policy consisting mostly of antagonism, non-communication and name-calling. See: Condi/North Korea/"last bastion of tyranny"
9) Decades of preaching "moral high ground" to all other countries in the world in the arena of human rights, then in the past eight years the horror of Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, black torture sites has been outed. We have been exposed as moral hypocrites.
10) Extreme class division in America - some people living under bridges in 5 degree weather while other people sit on solid gold toilets. People in other countries can't understand that. Nor do I.
11) We send delegates to monitor and police elections and voting procedures in other countries - and yet here we had two illegitimate, fraudulent elections back-to-back in 2000 and 2004.
12) We're spending trillions on an illegal war -- but have citizens who scream about spending money on food, clothing and shelter for the poor, the infirm, the elderly. |

because we are generalized as fat, selfish, stupid, greedy, and rude. we are known not to value the opportunities we have that other countries dont. and we pollute the planet more than a lot of other countries.. by producing the most waste |

Because we take things for granted. Our stance on certain global issues makes us look like we think we are better than everyone else. |

We're the most powerful nation in the world. Everybody hates #1. People will tell you its not that simple, but, you know, it is. Yes, there are some legitimate reasons for hating America, the atrocities committed during the war in Iraq, the concentration camp at Gitmo etc, but most people won't cite those things. They hate us because we big, powerful and worst of all? We like ourselves. How dare we? |

Are you serious? You know that Al Qaeda and the Taliban came from the Mujadeen, that we Americans trained and armed right?? We got them to fight off Russia, and then we just split on them. So they ended up using the training and weapons that we gave them and used it against us, after we walked out them.
In other words, we created them and then it backfired. |

While Americans have a lot of good qualities, we are not educated about the rest of world, and can appear shockingly ignorant, smug, and superior to people from other nations.
Americans are also woefully unaware of how blessed they are to live in a country with rich natural resources and lots of liberties. They take their good fortune for granted, and assume that citizens of other countries are not as successful because they are "jealous".
Our policies are also extremely hypocritical - as some of the other posters stated - we preach the "do as a I say, not as I do" doctrine on a lot of issues, and meddle in the affairs of a lot of other countries. |

Because we are arrogant and enforce our ideals, values and beliefs on other countries. We never mind our own business. If challenged, we have no problem going straight to war. Yet we condemn other countries for going to war. So, we are hypocritical to boot. |

OK I am not American just live north of the US border ;)
First of all Im trying to give an UNBIASED OPINION-not trying to bash the US in any way. OK now that I said my disclaimeer I can start answering your question..
People here say jealous... of what? because if it's because America being a 1st world country then they should be jealous and hate Canada, UK and most of Europe, Australia etc-which is not the case.
I think is because of the image America shows to the world with its foreign policies and the way that they portray themselves as better than anyone else. That the "American way" is the ONLY way for Everybody! And to the rest of the world it just means that being American means being racist, ignorant about other countries and cultural ideals...
and Iraq is not a terrorist country... it was invaded because of Oil.. not for the weapons of mass destruction that were never found....
And let me tell you... here Americans are much liked either and trust me people here are not jealous ...
I've lived in the US and I had a wonderful time, I think Bush really helped making this image of American is better than anyone else thing.
Hopefully with Barack Obama the US image will be able to change. |

We have the money, we have the power, we control our own actions.
Many countries have become liberalized and believe that everything that happens in the world is directly involved with the US of A. |

Because they don't get it. We're the police officers of the world and demand peace between all nations. Someone has to do it! Or else some of these other countries would just continue blowing the hell out of each other for the NEXT 2,000 years. Won't they ever learn? |

I have traveled overseas a bit in the last few years. Sadly, my observation is that our major export worldwide is "Hollywood". MTV is on in most countries (a slightly different version but still very much MTV). Movies are in all the airports.
Truthfully, I would not think much of America if all I knew about our country was MTV and hollywood movies.
The ultra conservative countries (highly Islamic) see us as having zero morals-- because Hollwood doesn't show us having any, perhaps?
Also, historically, we have supported Israel (establish the state after WW II as an example) which doesn't give us good relations with the anti-Israel factions of the Arab world. |

Because they think we are arrogant. And based on some of our policies, they make a point.
Because of Bush??? Are you kidding?? What do you think all the Presidents before Bush made the world love Americans?? And I hate to tell you, but Obama won't do a great job either in that regards. |

1. Relatively good, high standard of living.
2. They perceive us as getting that way by exploiting them for natural resources and cheap labor.
3. They resent western culture in general.
4. They believe Bush is evil. |

Besides America meddling in world affairs (700 military bases in over 130 countries), we have no business in the middle east. The fighting will continue no matter how much anyone (Obama or asshats on Facebook) "condemn" violence in that area. When the CIA talked about blowback, they were so right.
As someone who was adopted into this country and a computer science major, I hear a great deal of online banter that "they" don't hate us because we're rich and free, they hate us because WE'RE OVER THERE. The us-gov built a base in Iraq that is bigger than the Vatican. Let's just call it mission-accomplished and let the people work it out amongst themselves. We will never understand the irrationality of middle eastern politics. We built a military base for US on their holy land; isn't that like putting your head in an alligator's mouth and being mad when it bites you? |

because america likes to butt into the personal affairs of so many countiries. All these countires were livig peacfully untill america decided to butt in and send the army and start to take power over the oil. It was then when these countires started to hate america, because they wanted freedom. |
