because the US administration has taken a "you're with us or against us" stance that interprets any form of disagreement with the US as support of terrorism.
There is plenty of room for a whole spectrum of opinions about world politics, but this administration has narrowed it to the point of strangulation.
Incidentally, I orderd French fries at a local restaurant and the owner corrected me, saying they were freedom fries. Then he asked me to vote for him as our local representative. I told him I wouldn't vote for anyone who blamed another country for having an opinion. |

In light of France's position on certain international affairs there is a perception by many Americans that the French (or at least those in the French govenment) have forgotten the sacrifice made by Americans on their behalf in WWI and WWII.
I don't think that the typical American expects France to agree with all U.S. foreign policy, but the anti-American rhetoric of late does not sit well when so many American soldiers are buried on French soil. |

We don't actually hate the French....we pity them. See they surrender to every stray dog that growls at them. They get involved in wars they know they can not win, and expect us(U.S.) to bail them out. If they would just stick to making wine and cheese they would be O.K., or perhaps they could develop a backbone, and stand up to their enemies.(Sans white flags) |

Hard to respect a country that rolls over in so many major conflicts in the last couple hundred years?
Lets do a quick list in order from oldest to most recent:
Napolean conquers france 1(aprox 1799CE)
Napolean conquers france 2
Franco-Prussian war
WW 1
WW 2 to the germans
WW 2 vichy france to the allies
Indochina war (vietnamese)
Algerian war (aka Algeria's war of independance from france)
Besides this list Hi Ya'll's answer above covers another aspect. |

Not TV ,or a F##king TV station...LIBYIA..!! When we [the USA] chose to bomb Mohmar Qaddafi after flagrant U N violations. The french wouldn't let us fly their airspace..our pilots flew the horn of Europe for nearly 24 hours. Obviously can't speak for all Americans..but that is why I detest the French. In all manner shape and form..I'd punch a frog just for that alone..Angry American. |

I don't think that we necessarily hate the French, we just disagree with them on many important matters, such as bathing, and hairy armpits on women. By the way, speedos on old stinky balding French dudes with croissant stuck in their ratty beards is not attractive. Having been to France, I can say that the average French citizen is incredibly rude to any American they meet.
As far as the Statue of Liberty goes, maybe we should just send it back, remove the torch, and mold a middle finger. Oh by the way, here's your bill for all the freaking restoration over the years on the piece of crap.
We no longer owe you people a debt for the American Revolution. We repaid that debt tenfold. Try not to step on the American bones littering the beaches of Normandy. |

America has established itself as the best in the world. Most everybody has succumbed. The French refused to believe this. They've never said America is number 2, but simply that they are number 1. Which is acceptable.
I guess Americans don't like that fact that the French have not adopted their ways like some countries. America has a tendency to criticize anything that is not theirs even at a foreign country. |

The French try to undermine everything that the U.S. does. It was a UN resolution that allowed the US to invade Iraq. The French are part of the UN but they cowered down rather that standing up to Saddam. After we got there we found that they had been selling weapons to Iraq illegally (so were the Russians). Any time that you have to put up or shut up, they surrender. Then they blame us for trying to change things and they think we should be more like them. We have to much of a rebellious nature to convert to their socialist programs. |

Cuz the French seem to have a problem stepping up to the plate when it comes to world affairs.
They are always willing to let the U.S. do the work, then scold us when we do. |

We saved their A$$E$ from the Nazis that they were to cowardly to fight (Hitler took France in two weeks). Since then France has done nothing but stab us in the back and secretly deal with our enemies. |

HATE is too strong a word. Dislike is more like it and it is because the French are often arrogant and rude to people who do not speak their language or admire their culture. |

Propaganda from the US government and it's mouthpiece Fox News started it. The French were giving Colon Powell and other administration officials a difficult time when the US wanted to start the Iraq war. They defeated the UN resolution that Powell sought. Shortly after this cafeteria items in Congress' lunch room were renamed - French fries became "freedom fries" and Fox News began saying the French were cowards, appeasers. |

The French will not blindly follow American foreign policy like some poodle states and America cannot forgive France for this |

I have lived in the United States for almost ten years and I have realised that Americans and French just don't like each other. Of course this really came to a head when the United States was trying to gather support for the Iraqi Invasion and the French and many other countries would not go along with it. For some reason the French got the ire of the Americans and all of a sudden French Fries were Freedom fries. I find this hatred odd because without the French the United States would have never been able to defeat the Brits in the Revolutionary War. |

Don't pay any attention. The same Americans hate everyone including their ignorant selves. There are however, Americans that love everyone and are accepting and embracing. Stay away from those who bring you down. |

The French are just way to liberal about every issue and their media is the most bias that I've ever seen. I'm sure a lot of you guys are cool though. There are a lot of fuc***g morons in this country too. Look at how many people voted for Algore and Kerry. |

I think some ignorant Americans started the attitude when France would join us in Iraq.
Most Americans don't hate the French, and actually admire French culture. A trip to Paris is seen as terribly romantic. French wines and cuisine is viewed as top class. The French accent is considered cosmopolitan. |

Americans do not generally hate the French. But as a public service, all American idiots have been tricked into hating the French so as to reveal themselves. When you hear someone ranting about the French, just smile and know it's working. |
