They did studies and found that if you say 'immigrants' it is a more pro-illegal immigrant outcome (ignoring that most people don't think of ILLEGAL immigrants when someone says 'immigrants'.) They think 'undocumented' would be similarly neutral, but it is ridiculous.
Undocument is what a citizen born abroad is, if they don't file. They have the RIGHT to be here, just not the paperwork. Illegal immigrants have no right to be here, period. |

If the pro-illegals use the term "illegal", they no longer have an argument, therefore, they use the softer, more PC term to defend their case.

It just "sounds" so much nicer than the truth. You don't have to scream in the streets to make your views known. I mean all they're doing is talking to themselves because no-one knows what the heck they're saying except being called "racist" and LaRaza. They have lost more supporters than gained them. There are those of us who are fighting for the rights of legal immigrants because that's the place reform is needed......not a blanket amnesty for people who have no respect for our laws. |

OK, i understand how you feel about the law being broken, but the use of "illegal" is viewed by some as an issue unto itself not because of immigration but because it dehumanizes the person ...it is an attempt to make people's minds easier to shift since its not a person but an "illegal" its manipulation!!!........and that's why (ask any English or Philosophy or Logic professor, even those on your side, Ive had one that was) and they ll admit for Logic and correct reasoning's sake it is necessary to use the MOST PRECISE words.......so then, being that illegal is referent to a laws (concept) being broken, the action ITSELF is illegal, not the person...
it could be said ...that person CAME illegally....but NOT that person IS illegal |

Nice to hear the opinions of someone who has legally immigrated and naturalized. Thank you.
Anyhow, I don't care what they call it, the ones who have not followed our immigration laws need to return to their home country. All the pc names don't change the decisions they've made, or the laws they've disregarded.
Edit: To Red Angel - I understand your point, however I personally do not see it as a dehuminization. The word illegal is used to modify the word alien, not the person. Illegal, as defined in the Merriam-webster dictionary, is "not according to or authorized by law". So, I think it is an accurate term, defining their alien status - as not authorized by law. It is not meant as a derrogatory thing. While you may feel that the term undocumented is more correct, that does not mean that using illegal to modify alien is incorrect.
And, when a person uses "illegals" by itself, its just a shortened term, no different that when people use the term "anti's". A better word choice for "anti's", to be as close to pure definition as possible, would be "pro-law citizens".

The words are correct. You may not want people to see them as humans, so, you advocate for usage of illegal aliens.
But, truthfully, you say potato I say potato. The words used aren't really the issue. If you focus on something as small as this, you can lose sight of the greater picture.
