Their heritage I guess but my mother taught me to fix your husbands plate sometimes but dont let him get use to it! Make his you know what get up and do it for himself sometimes

My wife is Asian, she fixes my plate and brings me my coffee. Yes I am perfectly capable of getting my own stuff this is just one way we she shows affection for me. She always treats me well, that has the side effect of having a loyal husband who will do absolutely anything for her.

A good marriage is not a contest to see who gets each other to do the most work. You can set your own rules when you get married.

It seems to be ingrained in your traditionally patriarchal culture so, yes, I believe you can expect the same treatment. Unless you move to America and marry American. We have no real culture.

Because that is the way they are taught, and that happens in every culture, I am white and my mom use to do that with my dad, so your not alone, if you get married and you set a table for dinner, just start him out serving himself, and if you want to do it once in awhile fine, just don't make it a habit, and have him get things for you once in awhile. Just don't become his fetching dog. Unless you don't mind doing it 24/7. and you are an imposter, why?

It's a traditional display of gratitude....to your husband for earning your livlihood and to your father for providing for you as a child.

Nowadays, as more women are working, I suspect that this custom will begin to fade.

They are taught to be subservient. It's sad really because I have seen a lot of Mexican women who are physically abused and they seem to accept it. I have also known about times when their partners would threaten to kill them if they went to the cops. Yet, many times in these same households, the "man" always thinks it's ok for him to cheat on her and stay out all hours of the night while she stays home with the kids. It's not right.

I don't mind serving my husband but I will have respect.

I'm married to a Mexican man, and I'm white. I cook him dinner and pack him a lunch everyday. I do it cause I was raised to be that way. It doesn't bother me at all. But my husband also does things on his own like take his plate to the sink and wash it off for me. He does all the work outside. Like we just built a deck and put new grass in, and I do all the things inside. So we do equal amounts and he never tells me I HAVE to cook for him. I also work and I'm going to Nursing school. But when I'm sick or don't want to cook he will. My sister in law on the other hand she is another story. Cause she is a mexican girl, she does whatever he says. She will even leave shopping with me to go home and make the baby a bottle cause he won't do it.

Just because your mother did it doesn't mean you have to. Get your own dinner and let him get his own dinner. Don't set a precedence that you don't want to keep up with. Let your children see that you are equal with your partner, not subservient.

Personally i think this is done (us women serving husbands, fathers) is because we were raised that way, but we are in different times. I'm planning to marry a Mexican national and before we commit we have to discuss a lot of things, such as being equal in the household from cooking, cleaning, paying bills, mortgage etc... Hope this enlightens you a little.
