It's like Saint Patrick's day although the majority of us are not Irish, American's every now and then need a day when we can act like complete fools off our drunken asses. It's the American way. =P |

The average American never knew what Cinco De Mayo was until Carona started running ads for it. Hell, the government that's in place right now is just as corrupt as the one it replaced. |

Because its an excuse to drink lots o fMexican beer, just like St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday and an excuse to drink lots of Irish Beer. |

If you do it, it is your problem. I don't celebrate it |

If no one is forcing you, why do you care what other people choose to do? |

I don't. It's just a drinking holiday for me. |

Because us Americans also like any excuse to get far too drunk. Why do you think almost every American celebrates St. Patty's Day? We're not all Irish, but we can appreciate any day that involves celebration via inebriation. |

Why do we celebrate Christmas? It is a pagan holiday, always have been always will be. It is a celebration of the winter soltice. The Christians developed Christmas as a way to compete with pagans. Christ was actually born in the spring, not winter. So does that make you a pagan?
Why do we celebrate St. Patrick's day? It is an Irish holiday. Do you wear green on St. Patty's day? Does that mean you are Irish?
On mothers day do you give your mom a card or a present? Mothers day is an English holiday originally called Mothering Sunday. It was a day when all servants were given time to travel to visit their own families. Traditionally taking a gift donated by their employer. Traditions that have no place in the modern world. So does it make you English when you celebrate Mothers day?
Very few of our holidays are of "American" orgins. Asking the question that you have has only proven that not only are you ignorant, but a racist as well. |

The same reason we celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest, and Mardi Gras. Immigrants come to America and bring their culture with them and there is nothing wrong with that.I think it's cool that we do that here. |

The US media will do anything to stay in the limelight. They want you and I hooked on their outlets. They want everyone watching their broadcasts even if it is glorifying Stinko De Mayo. For illegals and some legals, it is just another excuse to drink and drive. |

Simple so we can have a reason to drink. its pathetic, but its really the only reason why any americans celebrate it. Most only know it as a drinking holiday, like St. Patricks day. thats an irish holiday && yet we celebrate it basically to get drunk. |

I don't. That is not my holiday. |

While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. |

Because 99% of the people have no idea what it celebrates. |

Goodness. I'd no idea that it was now compulsory.
Latinas are a lot better-looking than your average American woman, so it's always good to join in. |
