I think you are talking about illegal aliens, and I also think that you know the answer why americans do not want illegal aliens.

Allot changed, a population that went over 300,000,000 last year. 9/11 (in spite of what you here, only 4 of the 19 hijackers were here legally). The fact that they come here illegally, demand handouts, and complain that it's never enough. all the while hating us for giving them a hell of allot more then their country would ever give them. And the fact that no one wants to assimilate into our country any more. They want us to assimilate to them. There are way too many cultures out there. We can't assimilate to all of them, just so they don't have to assimilate to us.
So far today, I read as least 4 questions from Brits who have the same complaints as we have. The only difference between us is that motto you quoted. I think a little self-examination is in order. Don't complain about America's issues, while Britain has the same issues.

Americans no longer want ILLEGAL immigrants. The VAST majority of our immigrants are poor. Under diversity laws, it's very difficult for Europeans to emigrate here because people of European descent are the majority here. If you are European and you want to come to America, you have to be educated and have something to offer the country.

Other countries with a large presence of immigrants will also find it difficult to emigrate for the same reason. Countries like Mexico have a HUGE presence in the US and their immigration quotas have been dropped accordingly. Unfortunately, Mexicans will just walk over the border anyway (to the tune of 20 million and rising) and thus drop the quotas for every other country even further.

When we complain about "illegals" we are complaining about the huge number of people who enter illegally (sneaking across the border, which is extremely large) and the smaller number who overstay their visas.

If these 20 million plus illegals could be deported, more immigration opportunities could be available for other countries around the world.

People resent aliens coming into the country without going through legal channels.

There are two issues 1) Illegal aliens in the country and 2) How many aliens should be allowed to immigrate. The US authorizes around 1 million legal immigrations per year which is a significant number. Congress determines the amount. Preference is given to skills in short supply.

Another big difference is that the US population is much larger today. The population is impacting quality of life, promoting urban sprawl and damaging eco systems.

The debate as to how many immigrants are allowed is separate from the issue of illegal aliens as it should be.

Not true at all! Anyone who follows the steps to become an American citizen has never been turned away but have always been applauded for their achievements and welcomed as someone who will not only make a better life for themselves here but help to make this a stronger and better country by their contribution. We were started by immigrants we are the melting pot of the world. Which is the only country that has a constitution that gives us all the right for the persuit of happiness. Now illigal is a different thing but it looks like we in our new "politically correct" mind set are going to reward them for breaking our laws and sooner rather then later the U.S. will become a 3rd world nation. Try to go to any other country illigally and see how fast you get tossed out if not tossed in jail. We take over a million immigrants a year, most of them poor. That is more than any other country in the world. We don't need the additional million a year immigrating illegally. We subsidize poor people, and our schools and services are failing our own people, who are funding those schools and services and subsidizing those who don't belong here, and their children.

In the '70s we intentionally went to a zero birth rate due to overpopulation concerns. This talk of 'lower birthrate' is a success story, not a failure. We don't WANT more.

The U.S. accepts more legal immigrants than the rest of the world combined. If you want to criticize or complain about anyone's immigration policies, why are you complaining about OURS??? Let other countries accept THEIR fair share of immigrants and don't put it all on us.

America doesn't have the free flowing money anymore. As of today, the first baby boomers from 1945 can apply for Social Security Benefits. Taxes they have paid into the system all their life. So now enter the illegals, who are automatically signed up for Social Security [+up to 200 of their extended family members per member?] I guess when it affects you, you'll get it it. Illegal aliens are sometimes poor. Most immigrants, unless seeking asylum, are not poor. It costs a heck of a lot of money to move here legally. Till money starts growing on trees, they must've had money when they moved here. You try moving to another country legally, dirt poor, and see how fast you can swing that one.

could it be because i the past when people immigrated to this country they came to find a better place to raise their families and to have a country where they could be free, they pledged their allegiance to this country and tried to improve it by working and supporting this country, today we have these so called poor people who come here simple because they don't want to work and earn their way they simple want welfare, like one lady from Africa on board a ship on the new's she would not get off the ship until she got her welfare check, I don't think we need this kind of B,S, from anyone.

This is not America of the 1600 and 1700's but of nearly three hundered million people and cannot serve as a life raft for all of Mexcio. Why not ask your El Presidente Cauldron or Vincente Fox why he did not take care of his huddled masses and poor in his own country and what has he done about corruption and poverty. Immigrants from Europe did not land at Plymouth Rock to live in condos and shop at grocery stores and Starbucks but had to fight indians, chop down forests with sweat and blood to build Americans. Mexicans have sat on their butts in Mexico and whined about their plight and few Americans feel sorry for them.

Its really a toss up between people fearing their jobs to companies and communities that prosper off immigrant labor!! We do need them in a sense since most americans dont wanna do those kind of jobs for such low wages, and why not have mexicans work for low pay and profit corporate america??!! It all comes down to the almighty dollar and its a shame that we sell ourselves out for cheap labor!!
