Why does a Jamaican man need a copy of my Canadian passport?

My boyfriend moved from Jamaica 9 months ago to Ontario, Canada. He has a Canadian citizenship and is legally allowed to work/live here. A couple weeks ago, he asked me if I could photo copy MY passport (born in Canada) so that his brother who lives in Florida (originally from Jamaica, has an American citizenship) so that his brother can come here to live.

I am just wondering why he'd need a copy of my passport, what would it do to help him - and are there any ways that I'd get in trouble? Basically I'm just asking if it's legal.

He's running a scam on you. Most likely you're being set up for identity theft. Going to use your ID to make fake Canadian passports for females down in Jamaica trying to get them into Canada or the USA.

Are you sure your BF is a Canadian citizen? If he moved from Jamaica 9 months ago and hadn't been in Canada previously or had a Canadian parent - he isn't.

Also you have nothing to do with his brother coming to Canada to live, you are not an eligible sponsor. Be VERY careful about this BF, this all sounds fishy to me.

Honestly, it sounds like a scam. Illegal immigrants do this often in order to secure SS #'s (or their Canadian equivalent), passport numbers, addresses, etc... Be careful, but before you get all suspicious, ask him what his reason are for this. It could be legit, or (most likely) it's not. Hate to have his brother open a bank account in the islands in order to funnel money to Al Qaeda or something.

I agree with the first answer. There's no reason for him to need your passport. You're not even married or anything, so legally, there's no reason why they would need your info.

It does sound like a huge set up for I.D theft...Have you heared about passport fraud????they put your info. and someone else's pic....

Your first sentence raised flags immediately. For how could a man who had been in Canada have citizenship after 9 months? Be smart. Do not give out a copy of your passport to anyone. You are going to get your identity stolen. Worst if you are caught because you allowed someone to enter Canada illegally on your passport.

It doesn't matter what his stated reason(s) is (are). What he is asking you to do is illegal.

Ask him if you can LOOK at his Canadian PP. If he gives you any excuse to NOT SHOW it to you - then chances are he does not have one and therefore is a liar. He may be a PR. If he does not show you his PP, then ask to see his PR card.

NOONE can become a citizen of Canada 9 months after moving there. There is a 3 year residency requirement before anyone is eligible to apply for citizenship.

Sounds to me like he is a liar.
He does not need your PP.
Probably wants to use your details to create a fake PP and bring his brother to Canada illegally on your PP details.
It really sounds like a scam to me
