Illegal aliens have nothing in common with Europeans who came here centuries ago. The settlers that came form England were fleeing an unfair government back then. Why are illegals coming here? They are not fleeing a war or anything like that. They are coming here to drain our economy, get health care, education and other benefits. I do not hate them, but, their government needs to supply them with a working wage and stop relying on the USA. I will let you know, go to an IHS facility and ask there what most "Native Americans" really think about illegal immigration. They would put your theory to rest. Have a great day though!

Okay. Let's rewind to 300 years ago when the Europeans came to America. There aren't any nationwide laws restricting immigration, are there? Now, fast forward to present-day America, and we'll see that there are laws. Now, if people want to come to America, I'm okay with that, so long as they do it legally. If they want to come to our country, they have to respect our laws.

I personally couldn't care less about immigration and I don't have a problem with it as long as it's legal. But it shows the lack of respect for the country and it's people when the very first thing they do in this country is break our laws by coming here illegally
It's shows just how they feel when they come here without regard to our laws and a large majority of them expect us to conform to the language expect to recieve all the benefits (medical, government assistance and so on).but they are not willing to pay there taxes and all the other down sides we as americans have to do.

I don't mind legal immigrants at all, and like having a diversity of people in the US. What bothers me is that so many people are crossing into this country illegally. They are criminals.

Well you didn't see the rally I seen, their were blacks, Mexicans and whites at this rally, they will not show this on the news. The Mexicans are also supposed to love thy neighbor, but all they do is break our laws and spread diseases, how long are we supposed to take this abuse. and I am so tired of hearing the Europeans were the first illegal immigrants, and for the hundredth time their were no governments or laws back then, but their is now, we are a sovereign nation, just like Mexico can't you understand this. The issue of immigration is one of illegal immigration. You said yourself you have no trouble with legal immigration and neither do most other people.

The deal is this; we let 12 + million people break our laws, use our systems, and be a part fo this country in violation of the rules of law. If the border means nothing to them; if our laws mean nothing to them; then what is next? I mean seriously - if you want to let 12 million people have amnesty then I want to be one of the first of the next 12 million that just don't pay their taxes and can I have amnesty too? I mean what is fair should be fair for all right?

And it does not matter that they are Mexican, Chinese, or Equadorian....it matters that they broke our laws and expect us to look the other way.

Every person for illegal immigration should be forced to compensate these innocent people who have had their social security numbers and identities stolen by these illegals who invade our country with no care who they hurt. They should have to not only compensate the money lost from their social security accounts after they are zeroed out once the fraud is detected, but every last cent the victims had to pay taking time off work, every cent that went into photocopying documentation, every cent that went towards lawyers and gas driving somewhere to get this mess taken care of, and any other financial expenditure the victim had to cough up. They should also be forced to compensate the victims for the emotional hardships endured. They should have to compensate for the money and time spent trying to straighten out their credit ratings after these illegals have ruined them. They should be forced to compensate these victims for every single hardship related to what these illegals have inflicted upon these people. Then the people who want to appease them pull out the excuses about how people who are not even alive now, and haven't been for hundreds of years, 'stole' the land from the American Indians. Illegals draw welfare by stealing people's social security numbers and identities. That means there are a lot of people being directly hurt by these people as well. Innocent people are having their credit ratings ruined, having IRS problems, and social security problems. If someone who has had their social security number stolen gets married, if either spouse dies or become disabled then they can be denied their benefits.

The illegals get welfare by stealing social security numbers and identities and using false papers. Therefore, the time limits under the Clinton welfare reform doesn't apply to them because once the time limit is up, all they have to do is get new stolen social security numbers and identities and false papers and start all over again. American citizens who draw welfare are limited to the time limits from the welfare reform and are then cut off. American citizens who fall on hard times and have to turn to welfare assistance have a harder time finding jobs that pay enough to live off of because the illegals have taken jobs and depressed the wages of those jobs still available to American citizens. Therefore, those in the lower working class are highly unlikely to ever be able to "work their way up" since the opportunities have been stolen which will entrap these people into poverty with little to no way out.

My family moved to the US before WWII. Those of my family that didn't make it over got killed by the death camps. Our family assimilated to the American culture. We didn't expect the Americans to change to suit us. The illegal immigrants from Mexico are not civilized like that.

They not only changed the National Anthem to Spanish, they changed the words. They already burn our flag and hang our flag upside down. They waved the Mexican flag during a lot of their protests. Some schools have stopped hanging the American flag and forbidden students from wearing clothes with any part of the American flag on their clothing all to keep from offending the Mexicans. It's nothing short of an attack of our country, not only by the illegal aliens, but those who seek to appease them.

I am tired of the stereotype that Americans wouldn't do the work that illegals do. Illegals do all kinds of jobs for less than minimum wage which drives the wages down for U.S. citizens. Construction jobs are an example. There are lots of illegals doing construction jobs that Americans used to do because the companies can keep more of the profits if they pay less for the workers. All that does is make companies wealthier and Americans poorer. Illegals are stealing jobs that Americans have done for years.

We don't want to pay for their education and health care or other services. We don't have enough to properly serve our own people with them flooding our system and making us subsidize them. It is expensive, which is why their own countries don't pay for these things for them.

Since they aren't even supposed to be here, and those laws are designed specifically so our education and other services won't be flooded this way, why on earth should we pay for them?

Well, no one's picking on mexicans, as far as I can tell, but there's a lot of people that would like others to WAKE UP and take a Good Hard Look at the illegal immigration issue, and with an honest 'take' on the US/Mexico component of it. I believe there is a Problem with our border relations, and while we DO 'love our neighbor' to the south, our neighbor to the south has been chronically deficient in a lot of areas, specificially in supporting their own citizens, who are now entering the United States illegally by the THOUSANDS on a daily basis. That practice has to end if we're to remain 'good neighbors'.

As far as european immigrants etc: You're trying to dredge up ancient history. I assume that you're of hispanic descent, so YOUR ancestors are as guilty as anyone in the United States you'd care to point a finger at. Spanish was not the native language of Mexico until Spain took it over, killed a bunch of people, and made it the official language. Mexico's demographics still show a heavy native indian component, but as with the american indians, they've been largely marginalized. So, the major difference between the United States and Mexico in that regard is that the US treats its' indians a lot better than Mexico treats theirs.

We COULD all get along, as soon as the law starts being duly observed on immigration. Since that doesn't seem to largely be Mexico's intention(yes, I keep emphasizing Mexico, it features widely in the immigration debate, let's solve that one first and then talk about other countries), the burden is on the United States to enforce existing laws, even if it's over the protests of lots of people that are, put honestly, citizens of OTHER countries...

I want to see the United States preserved as 50 states,and the people that don't like that, well, I'm sorry, but you're not going to roll back what will be 300 years of history at our next anniversary, in 2076. I may not live to see it, but it'd be nice to know that people were still carrying on and maintaining it.

The one main binding concept of the United States is that we've become a nation of laws. Some people don't like the laws, find them limiting, or intrusive, but at the end of the day, they DO serve a purpose. Controlling immigration, ensuring that it only happens LEGALLY, is part of that system of laws.

Some don't care about illegal immigration, they think it's all good and fine, but when you suddenly realize that some states such as California, which have long been magnets for illegal immigrants because of 'sanctuary cities' like Los Angeles and a list of benefits as long as your arm, have been running in the RED for years, you realize that this illegal-friendly policy amounts to nothing less than wealth redistribution from working US citizens and taxpayers to the citizens of countries such as Mexico.

I understand that other nations have a hard time sustaining their populations. I don't believe that this difficulty automatically results in a moral obligation for the United States to pick up their slack.
We have hungry and homeless too, that get no 'love' from their neighbors, rather they get spit on, lit on fire, kicked, shot, called names, chased, harassed, incarcerated, sleeping outside in January in the freezing cold, and their only crime was being broke, in many cases, or they have some kind of mental thing going on, which still doesn't make em criminals. I'd ten times rather see welfare programs that benefit actual americans than hordes of newcomers who fled the scene of their problems to take up in america under various and sundry pretexts.

I think we citizens have been fed quite a few sunshine stories about the state of the nation, the media's got a lot to do with public awareness, and when they deliberately ignore something that has profound implications like illegal immigration, I think they do the country a dis-service. That needs to be changed. It's in the news NOW, but it should have been in the news like, 5 and 6 years ago, on the front page so people would see it and maybe take a minute and think about it. We've waited an awfully long time to ask some hard questions on the subject, I don't think we can honestly wait any longer...and it'll be hard to deal with, because the status quo has that way of just 'being', and reforms on longstanding conditions and situations are hard to implement, hard to understand, as always there's a dearth of information on the subject due to the lack of serious treatment by the press, and the machinations of various and sundry politicians to camouflage or pooh-pooh the problem, but the bitter truth is that the pro-growth advocates don't mind bending some rules here and there, and breaking some outright to promote their pro-growth agendas.

Well, america's already populated. The Wide Open Spaces are in-filling at a rapid rate, places like Las Vegas are aready to the point where they have to pipe in water, and it's time to have A Serious Talk on growth, not just from the population sustainability standpoint, but also with concern for the environment. What do you think of a 25% increase in garbage and sewage output? Those are two of the least-discussed aspects of growth and GDP, yet they are 'gross' domestic products, in the truest sense of the world. While we're on it, how do you employ a workforce of a population estimated to increase to 400 million in as soon as 20-30 years, or treat the sick, or transport them, or bury the dead, or feed them, what will they eat, medical care, law enforcement, educate their kids, etc etc etc. I guess 'the government' is supposed to cover all those bases? Who do you think the government is, exactly, has Uncle Sam become Santa Claus? LOLOLOL There's some GRAVE misperceptions in this world...

It's time to ask Hard Questions, and come up with Good Answers. This board ROCKS, in that regard, as far as I'm concerned, and I hope that more people will post good stuff that challenge both sides on the issues of the day.

For the record: I have met AND I do like mexicans. I think they have a rich heritage, and we do have a shared history. But, we've also got some shared problems, that thus far it seems like the United States is flying solo on solving. That concerns me greatly...

Because illegals are breaking the law to be here and breaking additional laws remaining here. By breaking the law they are criminals. The reason the Mexican illegals are brought up so much is because they represent the largest majority of the illegal criminals in our country. Because the economy is not doing too good. The immigrants are used as scapegoats for economic problems, while the obvious culprits - the Bush administration - are flat out being left out of the blame by many misinformed individuals. The Bush admin after all has hit a historical record in excessive spending and budget deficit and yes this does contribute tremendously to the general bad economic woes.

And to those that say that "Billions" of dollars are being spent on illegals, well that's just a gross exaggeration to say the least. Actually the illegal workforce is SAVING Americans billions of dollars by their ultra-cheap labor.

Everyone should know by now that those Billions are being spent in Iraq and defense - not on illegals, as a matter of fact, programs that help the average low-income American have been drastically cut to pay for defense programs.

You may very well not care but think about how much money it costs. How many billions are being spent annually to accomidate them. You have to have written information and translators for all of their interactions and translations. You have to provide free healht care and social services. You have to endure the possiblity of criminal backgrounds and activities. And for what ?

The poor working class spent generations trying to build a unionization base so that they could get the health benefits, vacations, retirement packages, seniority, stock buy-ins, an *hour work day, a 5 day work week and many other considerations you now take for granted! they got those because they didn't run away from hard times. They fought their way through hard times!

Ten or twenty years from now, that could all diappear because immigrant scabbs are the insergents attacking the underclass, which by the way also effects Housing and Educational Standards!

If you are an American and being taxed to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars to support these illegals, you should personally care. They are Illegal, which means they are breaking our laws. They are draining our social programs, schools and hospitals of valuable resources and we are not getting an equitable tax base in return. Our children are not getting the education they should because they have to slow the class down because these illegal children do not speak English. 15% of the prison population is now illegals. Those are the ones we catch before they head back across the border for freedom. You aren't getting proper service in your local emergency room because these illegals are taking up the spots and the doctors time. They also aren't paying for the services either, and ER's are not allowed to turn them away. We also don't know who they are and where they came from. We are in a small conflict right now called a war on terror. So I do love thy neighbor as long as they are legal.
