Why does the U.K govt not put a restriction/block on immigration?

because they see immigrants as an asset; they are willing to do the jobs most of us would hate to do. However, they are being a tad stupid as now they are just stealing all the jobs, causing many people to be unemployed.

It does! The rules for immigration are quite clear and strictly enforced.
The problem has arisen in recent years about how to seperate genuine asylum seekers from others passing through a slow application process. Something perhaps needs to be done about this, though.

I think its because, it believes that there are people out there who need this countries help, and if they can even help one person, then its a good thing.

Plus, imagine, if that one perons it helps, makes something of there life, in the UK, what they may give back to the country.

The downside is, that for one good person the UK may get 20 negatives, is that truly a downside??? That is another question.

For one reason legal immigrants pay more in taxes than they take from the state so it does not make financial sense.
Asylum seekers are legally prevented from working till their case is decided - they have no choice but to be on benefits. Thats a government policy that could be changed.
We have a chronic shortage of many people for jobs particularly -
dentists
People in the building trade
Certain types of teachers
So we need immigrants fil these positions.

Also if we restricted/blocked immigrants all the countries were British people move to would block us. British people do like to go to other countries to live - from the Costa Del Sol to Miami.

It wouldn't make much rational sense, economically, socially or politically to block immigration.

Strangely enough they signed the Refugee conventions. You can't enforce a contingency on refugees. Sometimes there are more, sometimes less. I guess there are probably more asylum seekers from Afghanistan and Iraq than three years ago. Why would that be? Think about it.
Most human caused disasters start in the west. At least since the war in Vietnam.
There's more than one type of minefield. But they all explode.

There are blocks on immigration. Many countries residents require visas to even visit here.

There are controls on immigration. Illegal immigration is a problem in many countries, not just the UK. EU rules on free movement of people allow us to live and work in other EU countries with the same rights as over here. I for one intend taking advantage of that.
As to the claim that we are over-populated - you need to define overpopulation in terms of population and assets. In the UK we enjoy a far higher per capita income than most parts of the world.
European and international co-operation is a far better guaruntee of long term survival and prosperity than the narrow nationalism espoused by the likes of the BNP, UKIP and all the other 'little Englanders'.

It has. There are many restrictions in place, and have been for several years. The media make a massive fuss about immigration, so that the problem seems far worse than it is - media controlled by people with a particular political viewpoint.
As the saying goes "Don't believe everything you read in the papers."
You really need to get the facts over this issue and stop being brainwashed by the media - look into Home Office figures and European comparisons. I am not saying there are not problems - finding people who should be deported is the worst of them - but the sensationalist accounts are just rubbish.

In 2003-2004 UK Govt. earned 15.5 billion pounds JUST from tuition fees of International students !!
Why will they stop earning ???

There is a restriction, always has been, but a lot of people are now allowed in because of the EU. Unfortunately a lot of these people only come with the intention of taking advantage of the free health care and welfare system whilst working on the side. These are the ones who are giving genuine hard working immigrants who are grateful for a chance of a better life and hard working a bad name. Its only the bad news you read about, never the good

Probably because they know that having made a complete pigs ear of running the country and making it a criminal offence to be proud of your own country and to stand up for it, they are unlikely to get the British vote at the next election.........Therefore to encourage mass immigration with the promise of housing and benefits and freedom of speech (To Immigrants only) they will at least get some vote and with strategic placings around the country may well hold on to power

If we weren't an overpopulated country and political agendas were being met then I would not mind immigrants. The fact is, we are hugely overpopulated along with prisons, our NHS is going down the pan and we don't have freedom of speech in case we offend. I'll tell you why the U.K govt won't put a restriction/block on immigration, it's because they are too politically correct and unfortunately we've stop standing up for Britain.

They are going to have to otherwise we will sink...they have to be careful as EU member country immigration is allowed but its the illegal immigration thats got out of hand...UK is a multi-cultural society, always being open to immigration but its rare to hear an english voice on the High Street these days..I'm not the slightly bit racist however my daughter has been trying to get a job and has found it very difficult because immigrants have taken alot of employment. UK unemployment is now at its highest for a long time..the immigration issue will have to be addressed in a suitable manner.
