Why does the U.S. deport people who came here as children?

Even though it is horribly unfair to people in this situation, we can't really make any exceptions. People who have been here for 10 years and speak English will be saying, "hey, why can't I stay, too. I pay my taxes and I speak English."

Unfortunately that is how life works.. her parents committed a crime and brought her here illegally, her parents never did the right thing by her, coming here legally- you do go to court before you get deported.. chances are if she can prove that she has been here for 18 years, more than likely she won't get deported... they will put her on her way to being here legally

The parents came over illegally, the children came over illegally. It's the parents fault for putting the children at risk, and the blame should fall there.

If a person wants to come LEGALLY to the US, then do so. If you personally do not like the immigration process, then do something about it.

Most every 'American' here came from another country, most likely Legally.

its called guilt by association. It may not sound fair but our laws are the laws. If she applies for legal status here she might qualify. Immigration is a touchy subject for a lot of people as you see the comments posted. The thing is that the laws are not respected by anyone so its hard to enforce them. Let me explain. Employers here offer illegal immigrants jobs. Landlords rent houses and apartments to Illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants are looking for jobs and housing. The government for years looked the other way. When 78% of the illegal population was working here with a fake ssn# the government never enforced the actual laws. Now the problem is so big that when they do want to enforce the laws ethical problems such as these that you mention stand out. Is it the girls fault? No. How about the employers that employed her parents for so many years? any consequences to them? How bout the thousands of dollars that were taken it taxes from their paychecks since they do not qualify for Social Security bebefits are they getting a refund? The government as much as big business profited from these individuals and now just want to give them the boot. Becareful what they wish for because normal people like you and I are going to pay the price. Who is going to fill the shoes of illegal immigrants in the work place? How many Billions is it going to cost us to deport them?

It doesn't matter - if she's not a legal citizen then she needs to get out. She can always apply for legal citizenship - I would have done that as soon as I knew what it was. She's 20, she knows the laws if she's "as American as any young person born here".

What I want to know is, if they'll deport someone who came as a 2 year old, why won't they deport the people who are coming as adults, instead of making it easier for them to live here than for American citizens!

Once the child turns 18, it then becomes their responsibility to right their parents' wrong.

Nobody twisted their parents arm to bring their child into our country illegally. Nobody twisted them to stay here until they became an adult...Nobody twisted their arm to send their child into adulthood as an illegal alien.

Lots of children suffer because of crimes their parents commit. How many thousands of children have parents in prison now?? Sadly, children are often victims of others' crimes.

I do have some sympathy for those who are illegally but were brought as children, but where do we draw in the line. If we gave a pass to those illegals, that would only send a signal to all those with children to come and then they would want the same amnesty. We already have over 400,000 more coming here illegally each year now, what would happen if we made an exception for those children, people all over the world would be packing up their children and sending them alone or with another family member or friend
I do believe that our immigration laws have been not enforced for the most part since the great amnesty of 1986, so if deporting for a parking ticket sends a message that if you come illegally we deport, so be it. This is about illegal immigrates not legal immigrates, while I have little use for the GOP, I do not think that want to deport llegal residents for a parking ticket. The real problem is that many illegals and their supporters do treat our immigration laws as if they were parking tickets

Why should WE be punished? She cost our children's educations $10,000 per year when she was in school, and her children would cost the same, each, and be eligible for other things we pay for and need for our own, as well.

Why should she get those benefits we pay for? That is precisely what encourages MANY to come, to begin with. They do it 'for the children'. The instinct is so 'natural' it is predictable and needs to be addressed by denying benefits, not giving more. We subsidize our poor and have the right to say how many poor can come in and take what we pay for.

I might support a TRUE Dream Act for only highschool graduate age children (under 25) as a place saver while the debate goes on, but only if it didn't have the waivers currently in the bill that say people we would otherwise reject from any other immigration category could get in if they have family here or 'humanitarian' reasons. That would apply not only to gang members and convicted criminals, but to the parents who illegally brought them, totally undermining the theory that the Dream Act only benefits the 'good, smart kids' who had nothing to say about whether they came.

If that is the justification for the bill, they should craft a bill that ONLY covers those people.

Once they turn of legal age as an adult, they are then responsible for their choices.
Which should NOT be to remain here illegally and criminally.

And if they don't like the consequences of their life, they only have their parents to blame.

The problem we have is that the illegals are coming up with any and all kinds of excuses not to leave the U.S. On CNN the other day, a lady from Texas told the interviewer, who happens to be a Latino and pro-illegals by his tilted interview questions, that she should not be deported because she has been here for almost thirty years. What made her think she is not an illegal alien anymore?

wow...and when did she find out how and when she got here? At 20, she is well old enough to figure out what she needs to do and take the steps to be able to stay LEGALLY, by becoming a citizen. In her 20 years, has she ever held a job? Ignoring your status in hopes of not being discovered is silly. People need to start being responsible for their own state of affairs and stop whining. Take some action, get legal! The USA is not opposed to immigrants- it's the illegals that are a scourge.

Okay well I agree that they should deport here you are right that she didn't really have a choice in the matter. Legally they can though because unless she was born here or her parents were citizens when she was born, she is not a legal citizen, but don't get me wrong it is stupid that they would do so.

I think all illegals that knew what they were doing when they came here illegally should be deported and then allowed to sign up to come back legally BEHIND those that are already in the "legal line". Even those that came here to have their babies. They should be able to take their now American citizen babies home with them, but it does not give them a free ride to stay. I do however feel bad for these kids that came here when they did not know what was going on and then are forced to leave the only home they ever knew. I guess that is one of those things when they say that ignorance of the law does not save you.

That being said, I am sick and tired of my hard-earned money in the form of more and more taxes going to all of these people that are here illegally. I am a registerd Independent (not Republican) and I am in favor of sending illegals back to come into this country in a legal manner.

I've known of cases where someone got arrested on drug charges and got sent back to the Azores.This person had forgotten how to speak Portuguese and was totally lost.I know it seems unfair but that's the law.Our prisons are overflowing as it is with criminals who were born here.I don't want to spend my tax dollars supporting them let alone foreign criminals.From your reasoning,it seems as if you are a child who hasn't really been exposed to the real world yet.When this happens,you will see that anti-illegal ideologies do not go to far.How would you like if your family was trying to come here legally and couldn't,but millions of illegals can come first ? It's like a child being born with AIDS. It's not the child's fault but that child is going to die because of what it's parents have done. It's the parents fault. It's a shame but you can't blame anyone but the parents for their crime which involved the child. Sorry but the law is the law. I feel bad for that 20 year old but if the laws are broken for this one person, they have to be broken for the others and that's just too many.

The children that are here with their illegal parents, or who were born here are here because their parents broke the law! I am sorry, they need to go back with their parents! Citizenship should only given to children of those that respect the law and come here LEGALLY! I am with you, Yahoogirl! The only free thing a person who broke the law to get here should get.........is a free ride home! They need to ban those that thumb their noses at our laws from ever coming back to do it again!

i agree its a shame so many being punished for the "sins" of their parents..many who didnt even know they were illegals until reaching adulthood and try to do things right..go to college, get jobs, drivers licenses etc
