Why does the UK make it harder for people from more wealthier countries?

to migrate here? We let in millions of south asians and other people from former colonies over the years. These were nearly all poor people trying to better their life's. You don't exactly see anyone from places like Germany, Italy or Spain queueing up to come here? Or even people from places like Aus, NZ , Canada, USA. these people should have the same right to migrate to this country as an Indian, Polish or a Somalian, but they don't. Why is that? Only poor people looking for a better life. So realistically a line has to be drawn with how many people we can allow in the country, and for what reasons. We should make it easier for people with a bit of money or people planning on starting a business/investing instead of some poor guy from Albania that isn't going to contribute anything positive to the country at all. We don't have any obligation to help anyone yet some people think we do.

Its political.
The Uk border agency is run by the government.
It is perfectly acceptable to refuse entry to someone who has money and may vote conservative.
It is not acceptable to upset the islamic community who vote labour. So visas are generally granted to child brides from the muslim world who are victims of arranged marriages.
Before anyone says that this is a racsist argument.I have personally seen a Muslim man walk through Manchester airport with two young girls aged about 14 who he claimed were his wives.
They were not even asked to show there passports.
Do not blame the Polish or other eastern european people for comming to western europe to chase the dollar. They are legally entitled to do it.
The governments of western europe will not intervene , because they fear the resurgance of communism, should the economies of eastern europe completely collapse.
However greedy company bosses are exploiting the eastern european workers at the expense of british workers, and this is a contributing factor of the recession with ethnic British people being made redundant, and not being able to afford to pay bills and mortgages. |

Germans, Italians and the Spanish already have the right as EU citizens to live and work in the UK, they choose not to
It's reasonably easy for an Australian, Canadian, or American to move to the UK but the main thing is who on earth would want to? |

If we continue to accept more and more immigration, at a time when we already have more than 2 million unemployed, then our resources will soon reach breaking point. We are already experiencing financial strain, and a strain on our housing, health service, education etc.
I don't believe we should feel guilty and allow ourselves to be emotionally blackmailed into adopting every immigrant who comes here asking for our charity. We do not have a bottomless pot of gold to hand out. |

You really should look at the facts.
Over the last ten years one million immigrants have come from Africa and Asia, and half a million from other countries such as Australia, Canada etc. In figures upto 2 years ago 46% of these held degrees. Hardly the millions of unskilled labour you talk about. Overall, there are more foreign-born than UK-born workers in highly skilled jobs (49% vs 42%).
These workers contribute hugely to the UK a third of junior hospital doctors qualified overseas, and in some parts of the country up to 70% of doctors were trained outside the EU, have you any idea what would happen if we were without these doctors. The UK is the largest importer of health care workers in the world. Nearly half of its newly licensed doctors and nurses have been educated in other countries. While some of these workers come from the European Economic Area (EEA), the vast majority come from "overseas" sources".
Not exactly the uneducated poor people you are suggesting.
Incidently people from Germany, Italy or Spain do not have to immigrate to Britain as members of the EU, this also applies to all other people from member states of the EU, they can move here without having to apply for any sort of permits.
There are an estimated 400 000 Australians living in the UK, visas are not required for Australians entering the United Kingdom for a tourism or business stay of less than six months. For those who come from Australia and the other countries you mention work visa's are now granted depending on how skilled they are.
I suggest that you assume that every black or asian you see is a recent immigrant, the vast majority of these people have been born here and are full British citizens whereas you do not notice the high number of immigrants from the other countries you mention because they are white and you assume they are Brits.
I don't know where you get your idea of the millions of poor uneducated African and Asian immigrants flocking into the country, maybe it is time to change your newspaper to one which reports facts rather than racist propoganda. |

There are more French people living in London than in the city of Lille France. There are plenty of Western European immigrants in the UK. I am personally friends with people from Germany, Sweden, Italy, Iceland, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, etc all living in London. They don't need visas to come to the UK and there are tons of them working in banking, entertainment, cosmetics, fashion, pharmaceuticals, technology and other industries.
Except for the French, who seem to all live in South Kensington/Chelsea, you don't notice large groups of other Western Europeans as they do not all tend to live in the same compact area - though there are quite a few Swedes living in Marylebone
The UK doesn't make it hard for people from Germany - they just move over without needed visas and are free to look for any job they want
As for the US, there are currently over 1 million US citizens currently living in the UK, though that's probably declined with the banking industry shakeout. |

Because the uk doesn't have space, the people from richer backgrounds go about the way legally so the uk can keep then out.
Where as people coming for money come over in the back of trucks and boats and don't have a passport. they also claim asylum seekers rights. saying that if they return to their countries they would die and so on.
But it isn't because someone is rich they would be kept out- if you are a doctor you can move to anywhere because you are something that benefits the community. But i guess if you were just going to the Uk to buy an extra house to just let sit empty most of the year why should you be let in? |

I think you'll start to see more americans TRY and migrate to your country. They are looking like their neighbours to their south. That's what pure capitalism does to you. |

When the spanish weren't living off our EU contributions we were awash with Spanish waiters. The Italian's have a strong familly culture which inhibits their migration to anywhere. As for the German's, they like Engalnd but most can't take being constantly being reminded of the war.
There are plenty of American's who would move to Britain given half a chance, but we don't need them.
I think you are wrong in assuming there is a much larger amout of immigration from poor counties. Most refugees are here on a temporary basis, as are those qualified to work in key professions where we have shortages.
I disagreee that we do not have international obligations. Whilst it is always preferable to help people within or near to there homes, it is not always possible. Many people have family ties with this country or have been valuable emloyees of our government, including serving in our armed forces. |
