High treason was deemed greater than any other offence, and was often subject to extraordinary punishment, because it threatened the security of the state. A particularly horrific manner of execution known as hanging, drawing and quartering was often employed. Today the maximum punishment is life imprisonment. The last treason trial in Britain was in 1946.
Put these cowards to death, let them have their 40 virgins or whatever they think they will get!!

High treason, broadly defined, is an action which is grossly disloyal to one's country or sovereign. Participating in a war against one's country, attempting to overthrow its government, and attempting to kill its head of state are perhaps the best known examples of high treason
Over the years it seemed too barbaric to carry out that punishment and if you look at what it means then nearly every news paper editor/ journalist and so on would be guilty of it apart from trying to kill the head of state. They would have people booked in at the tower on a conveyor belt.
Could you imagine the look any any tourists face if they saw people being hung drawn and quartered in the Tower Of London. |

This is why. July 31st, 1998. The Criminal Justice Bill of this year removed High Treason and piracy with violence as capital crimes, thus effectively ending capital punishment.
27th of January 1999. The Home Secretary (Jack Straw) formally signed the 6th protocol of the European Convention of Human Rights in Strasbourg, on behalf of the British government formally abolishing the death penalty in the UK. It had been still theoretically available for treason and piracy up to 1998 but it was extremely unlikely that even if anyone had been convicted of these crimes over the preceding 30 years, that they would have actually been executed. Successive Home Secretaries had always reprieved persons sentenced to death in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man where the death sentence for murder could still be passed and the Royal Prerogative was observed.

Its a hard one to answer. Although I would happily execute people like Ian Huntley personally, the death penalty would not stop islamic extremists, if that is what you are referring to. It would simply turn them into martyrs.

The reason may be that "doesn't" has to be used with singular nouns, and "our countries" is a plural noun.
Probably your state of mind caused you to commit such a language flaw.
