Why don't the racists learn Spanish for a change, as opposed to asking people to learn English?

If I was living in Mexico I would... If you are living in the United States you learn English... If you went to Germany you would be expected to learn German... France= French; Russia=Russian... Understand now?

English is the common language of the USA. Immigrants who want to become citizens MUST learn English to pass the test for citizenship.
A great many Americans speak many languages; I speak several including Spanish.

It is n ot a question of racism. I quess you are referring to Spanish immigrants to the US. Hello, this country we speak English. When my grandparents came to the USA they had to learn English, They did not ask Americans to learn Polish.

Although America is the melting pot of the world we all have to have a common language in order for us to communicate effectively. Englis happens to be the most common language. Besides America was founded by the English and there language was English so in order to live here you need to learn to speak it or move back to the country u came from!!!

Why don't Spanish speaking immigrants go back to their Spanish speaking country and leave the English speaking country and their English speaking people alone?

P.S. That's not being racist. Hispanics aren't a race. Someone isn't predisposed to be Hispanic. It's where you were born and raised that makes you Hispanic...you're still white, black, Asian, etc. NOT Hispanic.

Why spanish? If I go to France, I need to learn french, if I go to Germany I need to learn german!!! I am not in Spain, so why do I have to learn spanish? English is what I speak and I have never had a problem speaking to people here in America because last time I checked, most of America speaks english!! No racism here, just common sense!

I am a Hispanic American. I grew up in the late 60's and early 70's. Back in those days you were treated badly if you didn't speak English. So, I made sure that I learned proper English so that I didn't have to be worried about education, employment, social identity. Because I grew up in America, I have every right as an American to speak English. Then 30 years later some "illegal alien" is going to ask me why I don't speak Spanish, in English??? I want to punch some one like that in the face.
It's not about being a racist. It's about respecting the country that I live in.
Have you ever been to France?? You can't go over seas and expect that they are going to turn their whole country and beliefs just be cause you are American. Be assured that you better know the language in any country that you visit out of respect to know the native language.
It makes me sick that the Illegal Aliens that sneek themselves into our Country during the cloak of night think that we as Americans have to conform to them.

The main language of the United States is English, always has since its inception. When one enters a country as an immigrant, it is their duty to assimilate to the society into which they enter. That means, learn and understand the main language spoken in that country, and how the society works. An immigrant cannot demand that the society he/she has entered into learn their language. It is rude and inapproriate. Civilized people don't tolerate it.

Do you mean learn Spanish as another language or as Americans. The popularity of a language is no reason to learn it, however those living in America should learn English because that is the language we speak here.
You wouldn't go to France and ask the French to learn English for you, although some people do that, which is probably why they don't like us. Asking Americans to learn Spanish to accommodate the large number of Spanish-speaking immigrants is just as arrogant as when American tourists want Thai people to learn English for them.

Why should we? Some of us have no interest in learning Spanish and did not move to a Spanish speaking country, so don't have a 'politeness to hosts not to change their home' issue.

On the other hand, I think legal residents can try to get along without English if they really want to, other than in schools. I just think it is really dumb. Have you looked at the success rates of immigrants who learn English as opposed to immigrants who didn't? The disparity lasts for generations.

Regarding illegal immigrants, changing someone else's home when you are there illegally is just more likely to make them want you to leave.

If we were in Mexico, Colombia, or any other Spanish speaking country, I would be inclined to say the same. But, alas for you, we are not. English is the language of this country and the majority of it's people, so I suggest you quit crying foul and start hitting those English books.
