Actually, it used to be quite common. until 1996, US immigration law allowed illegal aliens to adjust under section 245, if they had been petitioned and were otherwise qualified for an immigration benefit, by paying a $1,000 fine. Since that time, they've had to leave the country and get an immigrant visa to return. |

it wouldn't be as easy as it was back in 1986 and it shouldn't be that easy so there wouldn't be more illegals coming in future. |

That was always his immigration policy - for illegals to pay a fine, learn English and go to the back of the line for residency and eventually citizenship. The fine is for their illegal presence, basically.
If he does go ahead with it then he needs to streamline the legal immigration process and ensure it is the back of the line. Otherwise it would be a slap in the face to those of us that spent months/years going through the process legally. |
