the great majority of people who come to the US as immigrants come on family based petitions. So, if you don't already have a green card holding or American citizen spouse, parent, adult child or sibling, your chances of legally immigrating to the US drop a very great deal. Certainly some folks have committed crimes or have other ineligibilities but even then if they have a US citizen spouse or child they can apply for waivers. everyone else goes to the back of a very long line. however, even as it is, we still take in more legal immigrants each year than the rest of the world combined, over a million year after year. so, I don't think we have too much to apologize for. |

For one illegals make it harder for decent law abiding immigrants to come here, since there are so many illegals we cannot accept as many law abiding immigrants, why do you think people who respect the laws and this country are upset over illegals getting the free ride. Most cannot come legally because they have criminal records and would never pass to even enter. would you want to allow one good family in for every 5 families of criminals, I think not. |

There are 4 biliion people in the world living in poor and corrupt countries. The US cannot take them all.
Also the US is a sovereign nation and, as such, it can use any criteria it wants to decide who can come here and who cannot. US immigration policy has to benifit the US - the tired, poor and huddled masses are simply too big for one country to deal with.
Also US policy must be used for the benifit of the US, not failed states like Mexico. The mexican governement, if it can ever get it's act together and stop taking bribes, is the entity that should be responsible for the well being of people in Mexico - not the US.
If it fails to do it's job then the Mexican people should get off their butts and do something about it instead of sneaking into the US and complaining about the American governemnts policies, after all it's their own governemet's policies that are responsible for their problems. |

People come here legally all the time. If you have a relative or credible employer to petition for you, you can enter the United States. Everyone just focuses on the illegals but thousands of people enter the US legally. Most nations have immigration laws. You can't go to Europe and just live there if you don't follow there rules, why should we be different. |

Why is it so hard is a really good question. Everybody gets angry and wants to defend their homeland, but the truth is, it is not all so cut and dry. The legal route is VERY hard. Even if you were brought here as a baby. People are people. People deserve to have a home just like you do. There is a difference by being swarmed by immigrants, and by having humane laws. The immigration system is very degrading on top of that a major money maker. The American people have no clue. I came here with my mom legally (she is a nurse, got a job here) when I was 6 years old. She couldn't afford the fees to file for me and my sisters (1500 alone for forms)...so I ended up being 18 before she filed for me. Since that time, I have been on a waiting list for 9 years, and not worked, done everything the right 'legal' way. Now I am told that I must go back and file and possibly face a 10 year bar?! England is not my home, don't even remember it, but now I am forced to hire a lawyer and fight to stay here. I have no criminal record, and have never done anything illegal. Yet, I am treated like a criminal. So for the people who 'hate immigrants' and 'illegals' please educate yourself and remember that all immigrants are not hopping over the border. Also, everyone deserves to have a home they grew up in their whole life, just like you do. |

It is usually easy if they have a job willing to sponsor them. The problem is that many illegals entering the U.S. do not have a Corporate sponsor, family sponsor, desire to start a business in America, or are looking to go to school (college) in the U.S. (education visa). They seem to think its appropriate to simply bypass immigration officials so they can meander around the Country side looking for work and thats what we DON'T want to happen. If you have a job lined up, great. If you are going to remain unemployed, run around looking for work and going to use our hospitals, beg etc. than do yourself and us a favor and stay the hell in your country. |

The only way to can come legal is if you have money money money or if you know somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody. Each immigrant pays about 7,000-10,000 dollars to get in the USA ilegal. Instead of paying around 500 but wait 10-20 years to get a visa. Basically if you are not important in your country then the changes of you getting a visa to come legally to USA are hopeless. |
