Why is it that Americans are against Hispanic immigration, but don't mind immigration from other countries?

The bottom line is that people often have no idea why they don't like some things when it comes to nationality or race.

But I believe the likely reason Mexicans get the most attention on this issue is this: Approximately two-thirds of illegal aliens are from Mexico. That's about eight or nine million people, the majority of illegal aliens. Therefore, when the term "illegal alien" is used, and because most of them are Mexican, people tend to associate the term with Mexicans.

The association is not wrong, but only if it is applied properly. In some contexts, using the association makes sense, while in others it does not. For example, if I am going to set up a service center for illegal aliens, and I need someone to work the phones, I would prefer a person who speaks Spanish, and ideally they would speak a Mexican dialect since most illegal aliens are Mexican. However, if I say, "Illegal aliens need to be deported back to Mexico where they came from," this would be an unjustified association since the four of five million illegal aliens that are not Mexican will not be deported to Mexico.

It's coming here illegally that people have a problem with. Also, hispanics at least some want to be able to continue speaking spanish and don't feel the need to learn english. I think they should be able to speak both.

Because the Mexicans come here illegally. Drive down our wages. Funnel many billions a year out of our economy by sending it back home. They rape our health care system, many hospitals have been forces to close there emergency rooms because of them. They also rape our school system. And California is in such bad debt because of them. They released murders and rapist out of prison. And the state of California said it is going to refuse to house illegals that commit crimes, because it can't afford it. I think this is why Illegal mexicans are a problem to the united states and its a problem that must be dealt with appropriately. I don't care that there Mexican, I would hate Canadians too if they were doing this stuff.

I think you are mistaken. Most people are not against Hispanic immigration. Also, very few Americans are Caucasian, do you know what this term means?

We don't get millions and millions of illegal aliens from other countries. Legal entrance is fine, proper medical precautions, weed out the ex-convicts, require basic English instead of burdening the school systems, make sure no Americans are losing jobs.

It's the millions, literally millions, of illegals that drive people nuts, lowering wages by working under the table (and not paying taxes), costing homeowners a fortune in property taxes for schools with English as a second language classes, and all of the taxes that go towards WIC (for pregnant and nursing women.) It's upsetting to pay for it when illegals don't pay taxes to the very systems they use more than most of us. If you come here, follow the law. Basic principle.

Nobody has a problem with Mexicans coming to the U.S., all we ask is they do it legally, respect the nation, quit being so racist and stop their racist ways. Mexicans are the single most racist group in the U.S. today.

WE allow more Hispanics to come over here than any other ethnic group. I have a german Woman who claims that We don't let Caucasians in and have a greater preference for ethnic people. You see what you want to see. In California I see people complain constantly about the Armenians who immigrate here.

In my personal opinion it is not about race, it's about coming here legally. The highest amount of illegal immigration comes from hispanics. Americans then blame problems like unemployment on illegal immigrants taking their jobs. Not usually the case as unemployment is generally due to outsourcing, cut backs, or factory closings. Also, hispanics are more easily identified then "Ireland or Scotland or the UK."

Wrong. I can see your rationale that Most media outlets and much of the population are FIXATED on the Hispanic part of the Illegal ALIEN problem. The very conservative estimates of 7M Hispanic Illegals is really a LOW BALLED figure which ranges from 12 - 20+ million Illegal Hispanics.

BUT point in fact, many people in the Eastern US have talked about IRISH and RUSSIAN Illegal ALIENS for years. I heard about Illegal Irish in the 70s when I went to school in NY state.

We have Asians coming in on container ships. People that come here LEGALLY that become ILLEGAL; many 1,000s that overstay visas from every ethnicity.

Without adherence to the LAW, we are just a MOB!
Its not about RACE with me, its about doing things the RIGHT way.

Here is a thought that I hope that you can envision and embrace:
If a person MUST VIOLATE the Laws of the nation that they want to live in getting into that NATION, don't you think that this speaks VOLUMES about the quality of persons that are ILLEGAL ALIENS?

(my step-dad did it right in the 60s. The system is quicker today - so why is that TOO much to ask?)

LANGUAGES:
1. Drive through South Phoenix (AZ) or parts of LA or Joliet, the only signs in English are street signs - that is NOT assimilation, that is INVASION.
2. It was required to Speak GERMAN in my grandparents home at Christmas (a family tradition since the ancestors came over from Austria in the 1830s) but everyone spoke English outside of the household. There were no Specialized concessions (meaning only foreign language signs) for stores where the Family sold Sausages and Germanic foods. (sorry, didn't mean anything by it)
3. When I was a kid and Vietnamese refugees were streaming into Joliet (ILL), I was recruited to help Vietnamese wives and kids learn English (that's where I learned Vietnamese) so the wives could pass citizenship tests and KIDS could assimilate into public schools.

Mexicans that claim they are treated badly are either lying, or just looking for excuses to break the law. From what I have seen, Mexicans treat anyone not brown terrible, it's sicking. You cannot avoid this in L.A.

No facts in your question what so ever. Just remember sista, only losers play the race card. There has never been an issue with Mexicans coming to the U.S., they are welcomed more than any other group or ethnicity, but they just want you to think differently.

I think ppl are most against illegal immigration which I think is more prevalent with Mexicans as they can sneak cross the border. If someone is legally immigrating, there should be no problem with that, no matter where they come from. I do know racism against hispanics exists so that might be a factor....but i dont know much about it as most my friends and coworkers are hispanic and i tend to stay away from racists.

Long comments and question, but can be answered very short and simple, here it goes...

If America was against the Hispanic immigration and NOT other immigrants from other countries, than America's LARGEST IMMIGRANT POPULATION WOULD NOT BE HISPANICS. Look at California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and so on. You don't see millions of Croatians, or Turkish or Mozambicans or Liberians.

FACT: America's LARGEST population immigrants ARE Hispanics, from Mexico and further Latin America.

Americans know that we have immigrants from all over the world. We are not against Hispanic immigrants, we are against ILLEGAL immigrants. Most of the illegals in the US are Hispanic so maybe that is why you think you see issues against Hispanics, but it is against illegals!

Anyone coming into the U.S on a international flight would have to have proper paperwork to enter country, and as far as from Mexico if it is done legally I see no problem with it.
I live in the south and you see a lot of migrant workers and yes a lot of them are illegal but they work for less and fill jobs that no one else will do because of the hard work and less pay so employers seek them out and encourage illegals to come.
I have no problem with Mexicans coming, as long as it is legally done and these employers pay the necessary taxes on them.
If truth be known I bet the average illegal pays a lot of money to smugglers to get them into U.S, it would be better for everyone if the govt would issue temporary work visas for a fee and then collect taxes for people who hire them and yes they could also check for undesirables that way.

I think its cos us British go over there and most of us already have lots of money, as its expensive to get to America from Britain.

We dont expect to get benefits and we mostly go for the nice weather, great shopping and nice food.

Where I'm from most of the immigrants are Asian. I see a similar situation occur here. Everyone loves our British coworker, but no one's too thrilled about the Indians.

I suspect that it has less to do with race specifically, and more to do with preferring people who are like us.

Western Europeans and Americans are very similar in terms of wealth, education, and culture, and most of our ancestors were European. Mexicans and Americans are less similar, and Indians and Americans even less than that.

i'm not against immigration. just illegals migrating here. we even have 50 thousand illegal irish here. they shouldn't be here either. don't you people understand what we're looking at? the flu from mexico? what if one of those illegal irish get caught sent back to ireland and just so happens they was in contact with a person that was from mexico that was carrying the virus or an american that was in contact. maybe your carrying it and don't know and give it to a family member and they pass it on to someone else and so on. i happen to have a friend who is mexican and is here legally. a wonderful person. and i enjoy the food to only when cooked by my friend or my self. don't do restaurants any more after i found out illegal mexicans was spiting in the food of americans. what a way to catch a virus.

They say it's because the majority of illegal immigrants are from Mexico,but the real reason has to do with RACISM! I'm not saying that everybody against illegal immigration is racist,but I do think the ones that only have problems with the illegal immigrants from Mexico are racist.

As the son of LEGAL immigrants from Turkey, I have to say it is NOT racist to be against ILLEGAL immigration. If you come here from ANY part of the world ILLEGALLY, it is a crime. Because Illegal Aliens from all parts of the world not only hate America, but they want to create segregated societies, not get jobs, live on welfare checks, commit crimes, ruin our educational systems, increase the amount of high school dropouts, turn some parts of American cities into 3rd World Toilets and do many awful things to our country. These illegal aliens, no matter what part of the world they come from, are making it harder for LEGAL immigrants who want to enrich the greatness of American society and who want America to stay strong, stay prosperous and stay strong. We need a patriotic revolution in our nation and seal the Mexican border, shut down all groups that work as terror front, and ban MECHA, NCLR, ACORN and other groups which hates America and Americans. Doesn't matter if your Hispanic-American, African-American, Asian-American, Anglo-American, Indian-American, Mideastern-American, we all have to unite as ONE force to defend our national soviergnty!
