Why is the immigration problem made to sound like a racial issue? Isn't it really about securing our borders?

Where do we draw the line? Unfortunetly the immigrants coming here illegally are unskilled and mostly uneducated. Shouldn't we have some control over immigration and who is allowed to come here and in what numbers? I am all for sharing the American Dream with those that truly want to be Americans. This issue will become bigger than any protest seen to date if the immigrants keep talking about taking back the country or some simplistic notion of ownership. Let's all be friends, help us close the borders and control immigration. Those that want to be Citizens of the USA, and loyal only to the USA, are welcome to stay.

When discussing immigrants from more than a hundred years ago remember the following. Our Ancestors left their country never to return nor see family there ever again. At that time, one had to break all ties bcs if distance to their previous country when immigrating. And in today's world it is too easy to move between countries. Too often now, immigrants are unwilling to integrate into our culture bcs it is so easy to communicate or return home. So you're arguments about all being immigrants here really does not have merit in today's world of instant communication and jet speed world travel. Dont you agree?

I completely agree. It has nothing to do with racial profiling, its about securing the border and having a little more authority over those coming here. But, unfortunatly no matter what case may be someone has to turn it to a racial issue.

It is about two words, ILLEGAL and legal, I say what we need to do is arrest anyone that hires them and put them in jail. Make the pay a hell of a fine so it is not worth getting cheap labor. Americans already here will do those jobs for decent pay.

Look man all the government is trying to do is make MONEY and that is true. They are trying to make them citizens so they can pay there taxes. Most people want to become citizens put you have any idea how much it cost to get all of this done it takes alot of money and most of the Mexicans don't earn enough money. The people that want to open the borders use the racial issue to shut down the opposition, if you oppose their views they can just call you a racist, and we all know nobody likes a racist so your argument becomes null and void, even if it's right. people who use these kind of tactics are cowards because they know their side of the issue is wrong.

I have a couple of Argentine friends in LA and in TX. The've NEVER been harassed or in any way inconvenienced by their local law enforcers, guess why? I'm sure because both of them are blond and blue-eyed. I don't agree with regaling illegal aliens with rights they haven't earned in the first place, but let's face it, most Americans don't treat outsiders contemptuously, given they are European or white; How about brownies, beaners or the like? You mentioned the ill treatment of Irish immigrants...well, they were mistreated by...Bingo! other immigrants who saw their welfare in danger. I wonder who's gonna pick strawberries or tend our gardens if they left. From your comments I take it you agree with the immigration of skilled and educated people? So they won't threaten your livelyhood?
Well, guess what? Illegal aliens DO pay taxes, purchase taxes, and they DO send their dollars to their homeland, but also they SPEND them HERE.
Ever heard of Carl Sagan, Enrico Fermi, Isaac Asimov? They were children of illegal immigrants, not to mention those German engineers like Oppenheimer and Von Braun, who took jobs away from true Americans. Your discourse tells me that you don't mind losing American jobs to foreigners, as long as they're well educated and skilled, right? its not about race thats their argument not mine go home come back legal no problem, more and more keep pouring in that's not going to help or us we will find us in a serious over population problem. so if you make them legal eventually they will want more money and prices on their cheap labor will go up it cant last. the borders need to controlled and they need to go back and apply ,come legal they need to ban together and protest their own country demand better conditions

i think its about securing America as a world power. i just feel that the immigrants period are pulling down our economic base b/c we have way too many people here working for below the min wage. Then there are too many Americans that are homeless and can't get gov help b/c we are helping the immigrants. I dont have anything against someone coming and making a better life, but what about the ones who come here and make a fortune and leave us with their debt we haveto pay with our taxes. Look at it from all angles.

Is that what it comes down to? Money. Please . Most of those protesting against allowing them to stay, are immigrants them selfs. There four fathers before them are of european desent.And as far as the jobs, the mexican people as whole are one of the hardest working people.Those jobs they are giving are jobs that most jobless people refuse to do.

This is a big problem. I really bothers me to see all the protesting on TV..If you don't like it, leave. If you miss your family back home in Mexico, go back. We as a nation need to realize that in today's day and age, we can not allow everyone who wants to come to the good ol' USA to do so. It's not only a huge strain on our economy. It's an even bigger risk for national security. My family were immigrants, about 150 years ago..Do you think things have changed in the last 150 years? Kids are walking out of American History to go stand up for illegal immigrants to be able to come and go freely! Do you see a problem with this?

If you really want to get legally technical, Europeans came to this continent illegally, so if you're not an indigenous person, you're actually the one that is illegally here, because your ancestors broke the law when they slaughtered over 20 million indigenous people.

Our border does not need to be secure. Borders are only there so capitalism and exploitation can thrive. I hate to break it to all you flag waving, patriotic Americans. But the American dream is a myth. It's really the Americn nightmare. This country's history is filled with rape, torture, exploitation and murder perpetrated against people of color.
