Most companies do not have trouble finding qualified American workers. Why pay the $5000 it costs to bring in an H-1B when you can hire an American for free?
There are skilled Americans to. The only companies who sponsor an H-1B are ones that need special skills that are in short supply in the USA. In my case, electronics engineers are in short supply in Los Angeles because all the defense industries here hire all the US citizen ones. Thus, as a Canadian engineer I am in LA on an H-1B visa.
But most companies simply do not need to bring in H-1B workers. |

The company I work for would only sponsor visa's if they couldn't find qualified Americans to do the job. They think it's rather un-American and pathetic to sponsor or import talent when perfectly qualified Americans are in need of those jobs, and i agree. |

All that is required by a company for apply for H1B visa is a position and a salary. The maximum term for H1B is six years (unless your greencard is in process then it can be renewed on a yearly basis). It is only when a company tries to apply greencard is when **** hits the roof. USA limits the number of H1B yearly and raised the cost of application. The company I work for has **** loads of Indian and Russian worker who switch out regularly (on H1B). The company wont apply the greencard for them so when the H1B maxes out, they just bring in somebody else. |

The law has a limit on the number.
There is little cost involved and they get really cheap pliable labor. And you get what you pay for.
These visas are a component of globalization - they bring cheap foreigners here for Americans to train before they out source that job. |
