The Iron Curtain didn't work.
The Isreali wall isn't working.
This one will fail too.

And worse, it will take a billion dollars out of hospital, school and public services budgets to save a few million dollars in immigration control.

The border fence couldn't be that long. There is the Gulf of Mexico, which is a natural border.
I think the border fence is long overdue, and would benefit Americans, and legal immigrants greatly. There are too many Guatemalans, Colombians, people other than Mexicans coming in through this border, and it must be stopped before they take the very lives of Americans and the freedom we fought for and gave our lives for centuries. The things they have done for centuries?
Why should my son be frightened of gangs whom fathers are the most feared drug dealers in East Providence?

To stevebales above me, nobody thinks the wall is a panacea that will solve all our problems. It is, however, a good start. Just because it won't be 100% effective doesn't make it a bad idea. It's a good start coupled with tougher immigration laws and getting rid of the handouts that make the illegals want to come here in the first place. Just like crime, nothing stops 100%. But fighting it is better than the alternative. I say build the great wall of america.

No. The reason why the Mongols were able to invade CHina was that corruption sapped their military budget and they could not properly man the walls. The mongols just walked into China. I don't think its legal to build a fence accross the border. We need permisiion from one of the Native Americans tribes to build it on their reservation.

In fact it needs to be a concrete/cement wall, 100 feet high and 5 feet thick, with an apprpriately-armed border patrolman every 200 yards along the wall.

You know there's two positive sides to having the wall. It keeps illegals out, and it gives them a new wall for their gang graffiti if built right. That thin tin junk I think the U.S government is buying from Mexico. The fence needs to be more like the ones used in Iraq. You know the gated fence that rips vehicles to shreds when they try to ram through it.

We have a great wall around most of our expressways already. Have you noticed that? I don't think a wall will solve our problems.
We need a better approach we can all agree with. Certain areas would do good with some type of fencing, or wall. We really need to know who is in our country. Are they terrorist? Child rapers? Serial Killers? Repeat offenders? Or honest hard working immigrants just trying to make ends meat?

Lets find a solution we can all agree with.

We need more than a fence. We need an armed force out there 24/7 keeping them out! I don't care if people think of it as the 'Great Wall of America' or not. We need to start taking a stand against illegal immigrants infiltrating our country.

well at least it would provide employment in both the construction and the guarding lafter it was completed! thats gotta be worth something folks!
it should extend around the entire perimeter of the u.s.a. - and electrified!
that would keep all you yanks out of countries you aren't welcome in!

That walls is not gonna stop the immigrants from coming... the only thing is gonna do is have to spend money on it... Either way immigrants will find a way to come over here.. they always had and always will

I don't think we need a actual physical fence. We could use some sort of electronic fence with cameras and guards near by.We have sent men to the moon,I know NASA has something we could use.

the idea of a fence is okay for a start.
What we really need is something more practical and more of a deterrent .
I recommend land mines and snipers they are easier and cheaper to deploy and a lot more effective

IF America wants to maintain it's standing in the world as a Humanitarian and Ethnic Friendly country we can't just wall off one border.We need to have BOTH borders[9/11 remember]more secured,also ports and airports.We can't stick the money building one huge fence and leave the others.It's not practical nor feasible.There are other things that can be done to protect all of our ports of entry that would cost a lot less.
