For those of you who haven't figured it out. Contractors may get the bid but who actually does the work for contractors? Especially in Southern Cal and Arizona.

Forget the wall. Walls are OLD. Let technology take it to the next level. Put up surveillance cameras and sensors, plant radio controlled land mines, Place signs every 25 feet facing Mexico in 10 languages that you are entering an area of land mines and will likely be blown up. The sensors and camera's will be able to set off the correct land mines, and BAM, Mexicans all over the desert. Now this sounds pretty gross right, it's not, the problem would be solved in a week, the cost and maintenance will be less than an ugly wall.

No one has said that it is the solution to the illegal alien invasion, but it is a necessary step. The Mexican govt encourages its citizens to illegally come to the USA and get jobs, free health care, and send money back home. I don't give a damn if the Mexicans or La Raza is offended by our building a fence. We are a sovereign nation with the right to secure our borders.

No, I don't think that building a 22 foot wall will really help.
They should build a wall that's at least 50 high and I think the people that sneak into this country illegally should be made to build the wall, that should be their punishment.

Even building a wall 2200 feet tall will not do anything. The US-Mexican border ranks third internationally in the amount of (legal) economic trade that crosses it. There is no way that either nation is going to allow anything to be done that will interfere with that trade. Even if a wall were built, it would have to done in such a way that goods and people are allowed to move back and forth with minimal delay or restrictions.

Besides, it is the Mexican government and US businesses that are the beneficiaries of illegal immigration. It is not just â€˜coyotesâ€™ that smuggle illegals into the country. America businesses actively recruit and transport Mexican nationals to work locations throughout the US. The money that illegal immigrants send to their families still in Mexico represents the 3rd largest source of foreign income and without it the Mexican economy and government would collapse.

No one in Washington DC or Mexico City wants to do anything that will change the current system. Congress and the White House played a little game intended to fool the American people with their debate of the issue a few months ago, but it never was going anywhere, It was not democrats OR republicans that blocked anything from being done; it was democrats AND republicans that made sure nothing would be done to interfere with the income they derive from the current system. It was simply, once again, a charade to play the American people for the fools that we are.

I am not psychic, but I foresee illegal immigration again being a major issue in the 2008 elections â€“ until the day after the elections. Then the issue will be dropped until the next major election cycle, when hypocritical politicians will, once again, drag it out in an effort to get votes.

But there'll need to be 2 walls running parallel with hindrances and barriers between.

A recent article explained that fences are constantly being cut. Besides, tilt-wall construction requires little labor and is virtually indestructible with human hands.

Yes... As long as we build it 22 feet above ground & 22 feet below ground as well. Low security/non-violent prisoners can build it. They go out into the communities every day to do work on the freeways, fighting forest fires, etc... Why not put them to work on building our border walls. It's cheap labor too. But... Be sure they are prisoners that are U.S. citizens. We don't need illegal alien prisoners screwing up the fence on purpose. lol...!!!

Furthermore... We should not stop at building the wall. We should not only fine companies for hiring illegals; we should stop giving illegal aliens welfare & medical benefits. If we do those things, along with build a huge wall for the border, the illegal aliens will self deport. Forget mass deportation. They will leave on their own, if they don't have any more freebies!!! Oh yeah... If they don't want to seperate their families... Take their anchor babies with them. Then they will have their whole family with them.

Yes it will, that's why Mexico is opposed to it and teaming up with other 3rd world countries to protest it to the UN on the grounds that it would be bad for the environment.

As for who will build it, you think contractors will just ignore a job? If there's money to be made someone will do it.

We have laws built, one might say. and some laws are effective if they are not made out of gummy words. And you are right. Who wants to build a twenty two foot wall , and who doesn't want the wall built?You would think that a simple respect for cultural laws would be adequate and stand to be a respectable law, except for the one important fact. The privileged get to gummy up according to their views. No, I guess the wall won't get built until there is enough people to hold inside ,like that other country did.Yes, then the wall or i should say, " gate" will be built so no one can get out again.

I think we American ppl should make the illigals build it they seem to like to work for peanuts anyway.Just tell them that we will give you food and water and a place to rest there heads, even thought we do that already, but make them work off at least SOME of what they own the US. Then ship them back when it is all built.Then shoot what ever comes over it at will.
