Then your friend is a nob and does not know what he is talking about employers want the best candidate for the job and that is it. They don't care about color or religion unless they are white supremesists which 99% of people are not. |

You have the same chance as anyone else but if you go in with a chip on your shoulder looking for racism and making excuses before you even start I am sure you will be doomed to fail. Tell your friend to keep their poisonous views to themselves, we are a very welcoming country towards anyone that wants to fit in and work hard. |

If you don't get the job, it's because you're not suitable. Anyone could say that's the reason for not getting a job. Not just people from the middles east. |

In general, hard cash wins over racism in big business.
If it's economic to employ you, and you can do the job, they won't care if you're a martian. |

i'm pretty sure there are not going to judge you by your race. it all depends on the qualififcations for the job. if they don't accept you ask why. |

If it is impossible it is because there aren't any jobs not because you are obnoxious. |

I think your friend is not being very supportive. Having such a negative approach from the outset is not good. You have just as much chance of getting the job as anyone else - potential employers will pick up on a negative attitude so ignore your friend, be positive and good luck. |

I think your friend must have had some bad experiences but not all employers are predjudiced.
One thing (and I have found it to be the MAIN thing) which puts people off employing people from different ethnic backgrounds has nothing to do with where they come from - it is simply that they cannot understand the candidate or cannnot make themselves understood! |

you'l find that people with nothing to offer an employer allways put the refusal down to racism. its easyer than facing the truth. .....dont listen to fools. if you have the skills needed you will get the job. |

Don't middle eastern countries need computer engineers. Why haven't you got any loyalty to your own country. There are plenty off computer engineers here already why don't you worry about your own country and let us worry about ours. |

Your nationality in itself shouldn't, and probably won't affect whether you get offered a job.
However, as well as having the right qualifications, employers also have to look at your personality and how you'll fit into a working team. If you have any extreme views or practises, this may make you a less appealing candidate.
They will also consider things like how good your spoken English is. Communication is one of the biggest problems of foreign nationals in the workplace. |

I doubt it. Seems we have an over-abundance of people with the same degrees and race isn't the only deciding factor. |

Why do you want to work in London it is overcrowded and unpleasant?
Racism will not affect your chances, but competition may.
However London is not the only place in the UK. According to the agencies begging for my CV, parts of the UK are desperate for computer professionals. |

Well first of all, you are obviously well educated and have 'worked with the British Army?' I would ask how, first of all, but whilst technically you would be a good candidate for immigration, qualifications in computer engineering doesn't really mean all that much anymore because the market is currently swamped with home grown graduates all in computer science or computer engineering. Whilst you experience may help you a little, you have to remember that we have enough of our home grown people here with your quals, and so as an immigrant you would just be adding to the population. If you had qualifications in education, or nursing or medicine, that would be a different story, as those quals are ALWAYS welcome.
So to answer your question mate, if you dont get to come here, you cant blame it on racism, just the market. |

Firstly, if you're the best qualified for the job, and you give the best interview, there's no reason to refuse to employ you. Racism, while sadly still an issue, will not be a consideration for the right employer. Unfortunately, it would be hard to prove it was the motivation for an employer rejecting your application, but I should imagine if you make a good impression and obciously have the right skills, you'll have no trouble at all. Good luck! |

Some people in this world are so self-absorbed. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to get a job. The world has lots of readjusting to do. And he's right (above), if it's impossible, you don't want to be there anyway.
Come to Canada :) |
