Will the southern border ever be secured and effective against illegal immigration and drug smuggling?
|
After billions of dollars, and decades of building the border, with a politically correct administration in Washington, will we ever finally close the border, so America can stop the illegal drugs and illegal people from getting free education, health care and foodstamps that the states can no longer afford?

Not as long as the US keeps up the constant demand for illegal drugs and its citizens refuse to work choosing instead to sit around and collect welfare and food stamps.
"IF you are eating at a messicon restaurant where all the employees are hispanic" ROFLMAO ROFLMAO so if you eat at a Mexican restaurant where there are Hispanics working they are automatically illegal???? ROFLMAO.. key word here is WORKING!! Think I will go down the block and have some carne asada and support the cause... |

I don't Obama is very serious about it. Considering this debate.Mexican drug cartels have displaced the mafia as the "number one organized crime threat" in the United States, Sen. Joe Lieberman said Monday as his Senate committee heard testimony in Phoenix on border violence.
Lieberman, an independent Democrat from Connecticut, and Sen. John McCain, a Republican on Lieberman's panel, told FOX News that the United States needs to step up the fight against the drug cartels. The two senators were in Arizona, McCain's home state, to hear from local officials on their advice for dealing with the drug-fueled violence many fear is spilling across the border.
"This is literally a war," said Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. "They're fighting for the turf."
Lieberman has said he plans to seek $380 million in additional funding to help law enforcement stop the flow of guns and drugs across the border. On Monday, he praised Mexican President Felipe Calderon's campaign to fight the cartels, but said cartels have already taken root north of the border -- driving a kidnapping surge in Phoenix and operating, he said, in at least 230 U.S. metropolitan areas.
"The Mexican drug cartels have become the number one organized crime threat in America, displacing the mafia," Lieberman told FOX News.
McCain said the federal government needs to approve border states' requests for more National Guard troops, something Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has said is under review.
"I think we can have significant control of our border," McCain said. "We should heed the governors who are having to fight this ... all the time."
But Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said the Department of Defense has effectively denied her request to send 250 additional National Guard troops to the Arizona-Mexico border to help authorities battle immigrant and drug smuggling and related violence.
The governor told Lieberman's committee meeting Monday that she was disappointed with the denial of her request to bring the number of troops at her state's southern boundary up to 400. One hundred fifty troops are already there as part of a long-standing border assistance program.
The Bush administration sent thousands of Guard troops to the border to perform support duties so that federal border authorities would be freed up to focus on border security. Bush's buildup began in 2006 and ended last year. |

I think the only way we will see a secure border is if we elect a third party, one that puts America first. |

I'm very sad to say that I doubt that it will occur unless we get some bad terrorists coming over the border.
We continue to reward and encourage them to come here so why would they do anything differently. We ALL need to contact our elected officials and DEMAND that they do something about this issue - and that doesn't mean some further reward like amnesty (ie: comprehensive immigration reform).
Until the rewards are removed they will come in droves.
No more anchor babies.
No more family re-unification immigration at all.
No more jobs.
No more medical - just enough to ship 'em home.
No more schooling at over $15,000 a year per.
No more welfare.
No more drivers licenses.
No more illegals. |

Great question and most Americans want the answer! We've all seen how government does as little as possible every step of the way till we all see that government does not really want to stop the drugs nor the illegals. They bail out banks and pay all kinds of unecessary earmarks ect. to the tune of trillons now, but they could not figure out how to pay for our border fence to stop it all including terrorists who they say are in our country along with drug cartels! Government has also broken our laws by allowing illegal drugs in our jails by employees for so many years, jails where visitors have no contact with prisoners, separated by glass. Inmates go to court by buses in drug stupors and judges say nothing but everyone in court sees they are on drugs. Airports and courts have scanners and dogs but not jails/prisons. Ireland just got a drug scanner which is used on all employee officers who enter their prison to work!
Our government is letting our states and people go down financially, criminally, medically etc. and what for? Money, the root of all evil. It's taken me many decades to realize this, I did not want to, but who can ignore it now? Lou Dobbs is the only commentator that speaks of this really. What can we citizens do to change what is happening? Glad to see the tea parties, they are a start that America has woken up!! |

Not with the 4 horses behinds around (obama, pelosi, clinton, and napolitano)!
"Not as long as the US keeps up the constant demand for illegal drugs and its citizens refuse to work choosing instead to sit around and collect welfare and food stamps." If US citizens are so bad how come the FBI states that 58% of welfare checks go to illegal aliens and 43% of food stamps? Who's sitting around collecting? Low life illegal criminals!
TONY: as usual nonsense!
"Illegals can not collect welfare etc. because it's illegal! Duh! Illegals can not be here because it is illegal! You see how well that works 30million+! It work about as well as they don't get welfare! 58% according to the FBI! |

Apparently the answer is, who cares (only the vast majority of the legal population). Pretty insane, hah? Gee, ya think we lost control of something here? |

No country's borders can ever be 100 percent secured, but what we need to continue to work toward is controlling it as much as possible and reducing the flood of illegal aliens, drugs and weapons to a trickle.
The people who are against this common sense approach are those with the lunatic idea that no country should have borders or its own sovereignty. |

We are able to stop all human traffic on the border if we wanted to. However, we must balance two separate issues.
First, we have limited resources to go toward various functions that government maintains. A secure border not only needs the initial investment in everything we would need to physically block the border such as high-tech walls, tunnel control, and lighting, but we would also need manpower to staff the border. (No wall, left unattended, would keep out everything, especially motivated drug cartels.)
The second balance we have to strike is the desire to keep immigrants out compared to how much force we want to put on the border. It's a political issue regarding how many armed personnel we want on the border, whether it be military or law enforcement. |

Obama and Congress want them open to keep bringing money into their pockets. If they weren't getting the money they wouldn't be coming. Hey, offers of amnesty is all you will hear and nothing else if it takes them a long time you will give them what they want. American people are dumb. Ask any European if you don't believe me. |

Hopefully. It could be very easily but the government is unwilling to do so. Then they get huffy when U.S. tax paying citizens take matters into their own hands! |

Regarding the drugs, they will get the drugs in here even if they have to dig a tunnel through the Pacific Ocean as long as they have the DEMAND for them and get rich off of it. We Americans, and not necessarily me, since I've never done a drug in my life, need to stop USING and BUYING drugs. When Americans stop buying it they will stop bringing it over here to sell. Don't blame the government for this. Supply and Demand. Also we should legalize the drug trade because then it would eliminate the vice that comes along with it, and also the profits. If drug dealers had to pay taxes on their drugs, do you think they would all want to deal it? No, it wouldn't be nearly as lucrative. Kickbacks and extortion would disappear related to the drug trade.
As for illegal immigration that is not going to stop until we start prosecuting employers that hire illegal immigrants. Anybody who is paying an illegal to cut their grass, to work on their farm, to babysit or clean or pack meat or bus dishes in a restaurant should either stop and hire a legal immigrant or a citizen, or be caught and prosecuted. Until that happens we are not going to get rid of the illegal immigration problem. |

There's no way the US can close any borders. We rely too much on trade...especially from Mexico. You think we're doing bad right now, close them and we'll really see a crash!
http://www.perrymangroup.com/ (USVISIT)
The inter-related nature of the economies of the US and Mexico is beyond question. This trade activity represents a crucial source of business activity for virtually all regions of the US. Strong cultural and familial ties link Mexico with the US border region and beyond. The flow of goods and people is vital to the ongoing economic health of families, corporations, cities, regions, and states.
Like Obama stated! if we didnt' have all these drug dealers in America we wouldn't hear about the drug cartels. And if we didn't have all these people like gun store owners, and gangs like Hell's Angels sending guns to Mexico, the cartels wouldn't be as powerfull as they are.

U.S. Drug Users: Main Cause for Mexico’s Bloodbath
And as for Healtcare and other Government Benefits....that's all lies because illegal immigrants have been banned from most services since 1996 when Congress passed (and President Clinton signed) the welfare-reform law known as the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act. From then on, only citizens or legal immigrants, such as those with a Green Card, were eligible for federal benefits.

Well I'm from the UK and as a small island it estimated that 150,000 illegal immigrants enter each year. So if a sea can't keep them out, I very much doubt a land border will. However, maybe we should be slightly understanding to their situations. Not all of us are as fortunate to have this free healthcare service or education. |
