I'll just keep expanding my home garden, maintain my chickens, and support local agriculture. |

I would be willing to pay more for groceries to secure the border. A terrorist attack would have more adverse economic impact then a hike in grocery prices.
I also believe that if the workers were locked out they would develop machinery to replace them. The reason that there is not equipment now is that illegals work so cheaply it is not economically viable to make the equipment. |

No, YOU take a class in economics. Many studies have been done on this and it would cost a family of four $10 more per YEAR on produce if farmworkers were paid a wage above the poverty level (a 40% hike in wages). They USED to be paid above poverty level, and got benefits besides, until illegal immigration undermined the wages and benefits Chavez's UFW had gained. (Which is why Chavez was so against illegal immigration.)
Meanwhile our children would be in better and less crowded schools, and health care would again become more affordable and more available as fewer emergency rooms closed. |

I'm working on an MBA in economics, and while the illegals are somewhat helpful in the very short term, they are an absolute poison pill for this country when projected over the next 30 years.
I wrote a paper on how small the portion that we pay for produce is actually consumed by the laborers themselves. I'm at work, and I don't have my figures and research, but it was in the low 20s % of the cost of produce paid for the labor.
Even if we have to pay laborers 2-3 times as much for the produce harvested, the effect at the store will be minimal.
The drain on the US economy is ridiculously high and will increase by a huge factor if we continue to provide free education and emergency medical services to illegals, and continue to retard the wage levels in physical industries. |

While discussing classes, take English and learn that a "complaint" is a noun and to "complain" is a verb. |

My economics class and my media class and my advertising class and my marketing class all told me how these things work and Illegals are causing america more than they are helping! So go take a class on that! |

I would complain, but it's part of life - economics is affected by many factors - so to say that one will effect the other is not absolutely true, but might have some contributing factors to it |

Have gun, will travel.

most illegals do not work on farms, stop posting myths, and if I could get rid of them I will gladly pay 5 dollars a head for lettuce. Probably their filthy health habits thats causing the e-coli outbreak in spinach and lettuce. |

Stop using this silly scare taktics . Yes i would rather pay twice on grocery cuz u know what ???...i will be paying 10 times less on health-care, rent ,etc. Our rent/morgage will go down, our public schools will have more funding & less congested & better education for our kids, our hospitals will be less filled & cheaper health care. SO MANY THING WOULD BE CHEAPER so SCREW THE GROCERY SCARE SH*T U KEEP USING !!! |

illegals arent working for lower wages, around here they make the same as everybody, and get welfare on top of that. |

YA is a sham

It seems fair to allow immigrants to get "worker status" permits so they are paying taxes like everyone else in America. Illegals are costing America more than we are saving on produce. Their presence in the workforce cause the wages of legitimate workers to be driven down while employers keep more profits. |

No, because I know that there would be an offset in my taxes, as I would no longer have to pay for them to go to school, get medical attention, get in car accidents, etc.
I would save money in the long run. |

I've taken economics, I've also taken English, plus I am fluent in Spanish. This argument has been on here so many times. If you have a solution then write a letter to your law makers. Your congressman or senator. Believe it or not they do have staff that address that and if a lot of constituents address the same issue it does get noticed. Stop the wining, the stupid questions and come up with solutions! |

You know historically they said the same thing about child labor laws and their enactment? We survived that quite well, didn't we? Additionally, many illegals get paid quite well for their work. Example- meat packing plants, who pay around 10 to 12 dollars an hour in many areas. There are several citizens working for much less than that now. |

U of I did a report, and according to it the price of groceries would go up a whopping 10.00 a month if the payed fieldworkers 15.00 a hour. There is alot more expenses involved in getting produce out of the field and to the dinner table then you are aware of.
The Money these corporate farms save in overhead is pocketed, and is not passed on down to the consumer. However, I do suspect they are purposely shorting themselves on help right now, I have seen these corporate farms do some pretty shifty things in the past. I seen on one report on T.V. he was complaining about not having any help for harvest, but was just getting his forum ready to get migrant workers to come in legally. When makes me wonder, if he was any kind of buisness man would'nt he have help hired and ready ahead of time before harvest season was to begine ? |
